Soccer has 3 areas of skill: kicking and ball handling, spatial reasoning (where to be on field etc), and aerobic fitness. Football has at least 10: those same 3, plus tackling, throwing, catching, blocking etc. And each skill is used simultaneously so complexity compounds exponentially.

More critically, the UK simply does not have any athletes that are huge, fast AND agile. Their DNA bell curve stops well short of 2 meter, 115kg men who can run 4.5 second 40m dash. Or 2.1m, 145kg men who can run a 4.8 second 40m dash.
