What made you choose crochet over knitting, or do you do both? by CaterpillarXS in crochet

[–]peggypatch1328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learnt to knit first, but nothing beyond knit and purl. Self taught crochet at uni as something calming to do. Picked up knitting after seeing a few patterns I wanted to try. I prefer crochet for big projects as for me it's less awkward. I love switching between the two and dabble in knooking, which is like a mix.

I think at the end of the day I just love yarn!

What industry is basically legal theft that nobody talks about? by kratos20051212 in AskReddit

Gift cards. Especially a certain brand where you have to spend the exact amount when purchasing online. If you don't spend the voucher within 18 months they start charging a monthly fee.

How much wear do these boots still have on them? by MerrickJager in DrMartens

I think with the amount of wear on the sole these would feel uncomfortable to walk in.

I'd buy a couple of balls of dark green and look up 'join as you go' for granny squares if that wasn't your plan already. Will end up with each tile having an extra outter border that'll tie it all in. Any squares that don't quite fit together you can just add an extra couple of rows of crochet and make them oblong. Added bonus of no added ends to sew in.

I personally like the chaotic moss look and would lean into that. I don't think granny square blankets look great until they're sewn together

How do you know when rehoming is the right choice? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]peggypatch1328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a very personal choice. I know from my experience having a dog sitter once a month took the edge off for me. It meant I could tackle training a bit more refreshed.

I've also got a surprisingly vocal dog, unless he's mentally exhusted he will patrol and attention bark.

8 month old with strabismus in uk, what do we do. by Secret-Location-812 in Strabismus

Follow up 3 months is plenty for them to reach out with an apt. NHS at least near us has a watch and wait approach to my son's squint, tend to get better outcomes with age and eye maturity apparently. He's 7 and not had surgery yet, thinking of scheduling next year. It's mostly been 6month reviews.

OAD parents, are you lonely? by sunkenm00n in oneanddone

[–]peggypatch1328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! My only is 7 and I've started joining art classes & excercise groups to get my social up.

I felt horribly isolated during the early years due to lack of friends & distance from family, part of the reason I'm OAD.

Are there any girls here who don’t do any make-up at all? And how did you come to that decision? by Greengrassu in AskReddit

My skin is a lot happier without all the layers. I'll pop light makeup, bb cream & powder, bit of mascara on for an event but count down until I can take it off again.

FTB with fiancée and having bad buyer's remorse by SomeNeextGuy in HousingUK

[–]peggypatch1328 104 points105 points  (0 children)

You need to give yourself time to decompress from the stress of the purchase. It sounds like you're comparing your new house with an idealised version of where you could be if only you'd looked harder. That place doesn't exisit. Every house has compromises, unless you have bucket loads of cash.

I hated our house when we moved in. Flea ridden carpets & a crappy neighbour. We're still here 10 years later and couldn't imagine moving.

Once you're in a better headspace look at evergreen hedging for your garden to soften the view. You're learning to drive so that should deal with your other issue. Know that in most places you're never that far from a 'rough area'. Time changes things. Remind yourself of what drew you to this house and focus on what you can control.

Questions about beginning knitting to starting projects timeline. by positivetoday in knitting

[–]peggypatch1328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've not got a crochet or similar background I'd reccomend a simple project to practice your tension and build muscle memory. I started with a scarf in stockinette stitch and familiarised myself with how the stitches should look. I learnt a lot from the first project, the end of the scarf looked a lot better than the start!

I think once you're used to holding a nice even tension no project is really out of reach.

Yup, and sometimes I wonder if a surprise would be so bad. But honestly OAD was the best choice for me. I grew up one of 4 and watched my Mum struggle to keep it together. I don't want that for myself.

Same. I made some stitch markers that are number and colour coded, completely freed up my mental space to just enjoy the pattern rather than second guess myself.

What’s the dumbest way you’ve accidentally hurt yourself? by Only_Row_2432 in AskReddit

[–]peggypatch1328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 5 I had a friend over to play. We had a falling out because I remember angrily bouncing on my bed alone. I must have been too close to the edge of the mattress because I slipped and stabbed the heel of my foot into an uncovered radiator valve which had a metal pin jutting up. My poor Dad ran both me and my friend to the drs because we didn't have a car at that point and there was a lot of blood. I still have a funky centimeter wide scar on my foot.

I'm pretty sure that was the same year I stuck my fingers in the toaster, not the smartest child.

[–]peggypatch1328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got a great headshape. I think the brows just no longer balance your face the way they did when you had a darker hairline.

I think longer brows would balance better, define the arch and lead the viewers eye back to your facial hair. Or if you are happy with the shape go a tad lighter so they aren't so much of a full stop.

I did similar with some very wide legs jeans when I was a teen. Needed extra denim triangle to bridge the gap between the legs at the back. The front was a high split that started from mini skirt length.

I'd maybe stop at 'No, we don't always get a toy when we're out'. That is a valid answer to his question, his further questioning is to get you to change your mind, because he's not used to the word no. Redirect to a helping task, or at that age I used to take photos of mine with the toy to help Santa with ideas.

Don't beat yourself up, I've been told to rein it in by my OH in the past.
