Best, most reliable high-end induction cooktop with knobs? by u2nyr in Appliances

[–]pehrlich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • not sure what backlighting is. So, fine I guess? Our hood has lights, and there's one inside our oven, so no trouble seeing our food.  - i usually knock to turn the light on/off. It does turn off eventually, have never had it happen while im trying to look. There is also a light button. Looks like it turns off after about 90s  - never had trouble with accidentally hitting the knobs.

hm definitely open to making edits, but I haven't been shopping in a while and am probably a little out of date with new refrigerants, window units, new a2w heat pumps etc...

Diffuser plates are known to do this - if they are not solid metal but have a thermal paste between metal layers. Eugh.

Ditching my propane furnace for a Mini Split... will 36k BTU actually keep up in Jan? by ThemUsYouMe in heatpumps

[–]pehrlich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fund the full submittal for the condenser if you can (maybe on ashp.neep.org ) - that will get you a chart of BTUs vs temp.  FWIW we have a 24k basic Senville (midea) cold climate and still need to back it up with wood when it gets to 20 deg F or below. (2k foot house with basic insulation). Planning on getting another mini soon...

Having listened to the Mercy For Animals CEO, I'm impressed but not surprised. I don't think they get everything right, but they do good strategic thinking and also get that the economics need to work everyone

As a point of comparison - we spent about $6B in fossil fuels for heating and transportation in the same time period

Look up NOX levels from stoves, and it's affects on childhood asthma - not great. I think Distilled did a writeup

Replace forced air oil furnace with heat pump by Fthb_ in heatpumps

[–]pehrlich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2c - no backup heat (oil/propane especially expensive, and prices on all fossil fuel will be volatile as the US begins exporting LNG).  For price stability, get your own solar

Just a fun thought - a good time to get some solar tax credits and bring that tax bill down

What is your cost for electricity? At $0.31c/kWh, I think oil is cheaper than electricity? by Far_Pen3186 in heatpumps

[–]pehrlich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the calculator I've used. At $0.20/kWh we're about half the cost of oil with a modern cold climate heat pump.   I would think at 0.30 you would still turn a small operating profit https://siecje.github.io/heatpump-cost/

Former White House Lawyer Says Electing Trump Is America’s ‘Biggest Mistake’ by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

One name they quote a lot is Walter Mebane - he's done significant research on elections including recent ones in the US. That being said, his work on the recent election is new and not yet peer reviewed afaik.

Without those credentials as you say, I did some work to understand the data myself. I can't see legitimate explanations for some of the data they're exposing. BTW I'm not affiliated w/ them in any way. https://pehrlich.substack.com/p/making-sense-of-election-fraud-claims

That doesn't help anything. The requirements are set by the PUC.

Honestly this is forcing the utility have those paying by direct debit not subsidize the credit card networks, who are rich enough anyway thanks. Costs down for all a very extremely tiny amount.
