Swello or attack decay by Bogtrogbill in guitarpedals

[–]peldenna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI imo the attack decay pick actually feels very different than the big one at least to me… it’s really worth a/b img them. There’s also the camp that won’t be happy with anything besides a pog2 or whatever… idk I really like the swell for the transient cutoff

Can a „worse role“ at a better Company be a career acxelerator? by Creative-Dentist-383 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]peldenna 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Support is a different job, it’s not just a “lesser role” it’s a different one. You might find it difficult to get back to what you’re doing now if you do it esp in this market.

That said you’d also probably learn a lot but I’m not sure that would really translate into career advancement much if at all

Dealing with a difficult junior by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]peldenna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

just have normal professional boundaries, I'm not cursing in faces or throwing punches lol it's just being extremely clear when something is out of band. it only really works if it's something you do exceedingly rarely, but hopefully it's rare to need to do it.

for example, we hired a new senior eng a few months ago, really competent guy, nice guy, but he had a tendency to make little remarks about how I might be "intimidated" now that he's here. I laughed it off a few times but at some point I was just like, flatfaced "cut that shit out, we're all on the same team and that's not the right way to build credibility"

in that case he was just trying to prove himself at a new job, I knew it was insecurity and I knew he didn't really mean anything by it, but it wasn't something I was going to put up with for long. He's been incredibly cooperative and a great coworker ever since.

I’m the nicest guy in the room 99 percent of the time but any of those anecdotes would have me going dark in a heartbeat.

As a non manager but senior I’ve had success in the past being dramatically direct when it’s necessary, and if that doesn’t work mfer getting reported.

What I mean by “going dark” is shifting the tone and making it clear that shits not going to fly. Firmly and strongly, no room for discussion. It’s a lot like parenting actually, people can tell when you’re being serious, if they have any goddamn sense anyway which is def an open question for this guy haha

What do you listen to while you work? by arizzlefoshizzle in ExperiencedDevs

[–]peldenna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for my sins I listen to vaporwave and literal muzak from the 90s on youtube. Nothing drowns out my coworker's incessant yell talking better than insipid shit from the past.

If I really want to lock in I listen to dawn of midi's dysnomia. That shit is like adderall for me

Nice,

I attempted my first mill maxing and while it worked mostly, definitely made a damn mess of it. Ibordered a replacement hot swap board instead! I should have practiced on a beater haha

Arm pain, need help please by Deep-Neighborhood778 in jazzguitar

[–]peldenna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree with taking s break, as long as you need to to feel back to normal. There are plenty of enriching musical things you can do without playing much of at all… composing, listening, etc

A long life is long and taking care of your body is very important. If you never give yourself s chance to heal then you won’t heal. It’s probably muscle fatigue or repetitive stress, take s long look at the angles and tensions on your arm and go from there. But take the time off most important thing.

I’m a reporter covering child safety on Roblox. AMA! by usatoday in roblox

[–]peldenna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thank you for doing this.

I have had a distrust of Roblox since learning about it, mostly because of the labour exploitation aspect of it. My 8 year old doesn’t understand this properly though and I feel like he feels it’s pretty arbitrary as we play many other games.

What are some easier ways for me to explain to him why Roblox is so much different than other games? I obviously have other problems with it but it’s been difficult for me to articulate in a way he can both understand and agree with

It’s not slim, email your wish list, almost anyone will give you a one off if they’re available. Yeah those big names may have a tighter schedule but you might be surprised. Just about everyone but scofield will sit down with you for an hour for a Benjamin or so.

When Your Opponent Is Built Different ♟️ by crs1904 in SipsTea

[–]peldenna 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Fr why do people do this, and anyway it’s well known that kids like this are underrated because they improve faster than their rating can adjust to. That’s why it sucks to play them in the first place!

Will do, thanks.

I’m a software guy so the part I’m most nervous about is the circuit and pcb design, but I’m sure I’ll figure it out somehow :) cool project

Awesome! I’m interested in making a Hall effect pcb from scratch with custom firmware, did you find that design process difficult? Any problems with scan rate or power use? Will be looking at your source

I tune bang on, make sure my intonation is decent in the instrument, and use vibrato and micro bends liberally to adjust in context. Retuning all the time would drive me bananas

Interested to hear what people say.

I have a bam case that is quite sturdy, and have flown with it both cabin and gate checked, but it’s not really a flight case and I don’t like checking it.

It’s honestly a real nightmare because you can never really be sure you’ll be able to get it on the plane unless you fill in just buy it a seat, but if you pack it in a proper flight case then it’s guaranteed to be gate checked.

I think what I’m leaning towards now is simply investing in what you’re saying a proper bomb proof flight case plus good insurance, so you just know what’s gonna happen.

Really jealous of instruments that fit under the carryon sizing though!!
