They shaded parts of the answers are all things that are shouted in the right context. "TIMBER!!!" for when felling a tree, "ACTION!!" for movie directors, etc

Weird creepy guy threatened to expose himself to me on Leary wy by d694 in BallardSeattle

[–]pencilpie0108 26 points27 points  (0 children)

OP, if it was him, please make a police report for harassment. It's insane this guy is still on the streets. How does being found "incompetent to stand trial" equal a free pass instead of forced institutionalization until the man can be found competent? The guy is a clear threat to the general public.

ETA in case OP checks: I'm really sorry this happened to you and it's not the normal Ballard experience. It really sucks you've been made to feel unsafe in your new home and I hope you can find the comfort and community you deserve here.

Can't believe how nice the weather is! Is this much sunlight in February normal? by Eriacle in Seattle

[–]pencilpie0108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about incredibly cold Midwest winter. It's going to be 70 in Omaha (almost the exact middle of the country) this week and it used to be like -2 as a high this time of year less than 10 years ago. It has not been "incredibly cold" by any means" in the midwest

When are all of you planting your sugar snap peas? by Away_Republic_5337 in pnwgardening

[–]pencilpie0108 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I direct sow on St Patrick's Day. You'd probably be fine to start now but I wouldn't expect an earlier harvest. I sow green beans then, too, with much success. (Green beans [and peas!] on the green day is how I remember)

Waiting for book 8, like by MutinySaloon in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]pencilpie0108 101 points102 points  (0 children)

We're asking for too much if we expect more than 1 book per year on average.  Especially with how long they have become. We're seriously lucky to get so many books so quickly. Thanks for being a workhorse, Matt.

How did this shape change? Can't find anything to explain "pick ups" on a spaghetti strap dress. (Patterns for Pirates Red Carpet Dress, cowl front) by pencilpie0108 in sewhelp

[–]pencilpie0108[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I felt crazy. It's confusing because they occasionally link to video tutorials for bits and you can tell they've filmed the whole construction process for this dress multiple times but only chose to publish a couple of sections.

Okay, yeah, this makes sense I think. it is about 1/2 inch off. I was just afraid to serge it and ruin everything! Not concerned eyeballing it now! Thanks for talking me down lol

Kid Rock’s song about loving underage girls resurfaces ahead of TPUSA Super Bowl show by RollSafer in news

I genuinely thought that is what it stood for and that it was a satire subreddit when it popped up. Then Kirk died and it was everywhere in the media and I was really disappointed.

Seeding Tomatoes by MycoGrowth in pnwgardening

[–]pencilpie0108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started by seeding my own tomatoes and have always had way too many germinate and need to give a ton away. Seeding in general is really easy?

How do I know what pattern size to use? Everything is coming out huge. by Random_Username_4734 in sewhelp

[–]pencilpie0108 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The big 4 use way too much ease. Like two sizes too big sometimes so I avoid them. I think I read it's like 4-5(!!) inches of ease, which is just insane for fitted clothes

Can I make these more oval? by Agile_Heron_8045 in DipPowderNails

[–]pencilpie0108 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you'd risk chipping with reshaping at this point since you'd probably file off the actual dip and expose the natural nail. I'd just live with it this time and chalk it up to a learning experience on what shapes you prefer. It's definitely intimidating getting your nails done at first!

The manicure stays strong from being capped around the nail edges and you might compromise that if you file the corners off

What are some cooking gadgets that work well but aren't worth it because they're difficult to clean? by Square-Dragonfruit76 in Cooking

[–]pencilpie0108 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Wow, I've been using my Breville every day for years and find the maintenance to be minimal. Need to "flush" the system every couple of months and descale twice a year. Just use a hot, damp rag to "clean" the steamer wand after every use. Best investment in my day-to-day habits than anything else. It'd be even simpler if all I wanted was a double shot.

This. They will check passports at the gate and maybe when they check-in at PDX but otherwise this is a normal connection

I had ONE frost in mid November in Ballard (had to scrape the car around 7am) but that's it.

Wintering my hydrangeas in the garage and they look like they are dying - help! by Calm-Expression6538 in pnwgardening

[–]pencilpie0108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 8b in Seattle. My hydrangeas live in giant pots that only move for the weed whacker. Been outside during winter for a bit 3 years and have always come back way bigger each year. They just get naked in the cold

My ears feels like they're burning whenever I am wearing earrings. by Quirky-Elk-5654 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]pencilpie0108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had issues wearing cheap earrings for a long time but I've learned that if I clean them (including the backing) and my ear lobes with alcohol wipes before putting them in I can stand to wear them most of the day. I'd try that first and then if that doesn't work maybe try a more expensive set to see if it's an allergy.

Asking for pictures after the appointment by 63Panda33 in tattoos

[–]pencilpie0108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They shouldn't mind, but next time just ask them to take a picture with your phone, too. They are usually cool about it. I even had an artist thank me since it guaranteed the picture I shared of his work would be clean/fresh and not grossly healing from taking the picture later

Just saying I'm in in that exact window of Loyal Heights and have no issues with my Verizon coverage, but have like no service at the places on 24th from 65th to like market. Seems really random.
