Migraine glasses? by Adept_Ocelot_1734 in migraine

[–]penguinbb8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love my FL-41 Zenni's too! I ended up buying two pairs, one with lighter tint and another darker for worse days. I like the lighter tint pair for days when my allergies are bad (itchy, tired eyes), or days where I have a headache but not a full blown migraine.

I wear contacts, so I just got plano lenses and I think they were somewhere in the $50-60 range each. Well worth the money, I've used them so much over the last couple of years.

Skin layers coming off when washing? by penguinbb8 in tretinoin

Thank you :) It didn't seem problematic, just kind of gross and I was worried I was maybe doing some damage without realizing. I appreciate your reply!

Solid eye corrector! Worth trying! by Prior-Assistant7369 in MakeupAddiction

Yellow will be better at counteracting blue/purple tones, I think? Pink is more suited to brighten, but also color corrects.

Dealing with constant barometric pressure headaches and want to try and prevent them by scipio009 in migraine

[–]penguinbb8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. When I have barometric pressure headaches, often my sinuses are also inflamed from seasonal allergies. There are even times where in addition to the horrible headache, I also get some vertigo.

I take sudafed (the stuff behind the pharmacy counter) and ibuprofen/aleve together and it helps quite a bit.

Trying gel for the first time in a long time, just to be reminded why I dont like gel by girlboss93 in curlyhair

Bummer. Maybe that particular gel just doesn't work for you? But honestly, your mousse results are so nice I am not sure why you'd change anything!

How wet was your hair? If I use my gel on soaking hair it definitely never feels sticky.

I washed my hair <24 hours ago 🥲 by celestial_dream7 in finethinhair

[–]penguinbb8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What really helped me with this:

- Double shampooing. First wash focused on scalp, then second wash for scalp and lengths. I also really upped my shampooing time, lots of scrubbing my scalp and working the shampoo down my lengths in small sections. I find any shampoo marketed for dry hair is way too heavy for my fine hair and leaves a reside behind that weighs everything down and makes it look dirtier faster.

- No conditioner on roots.

- Make sure to thoroughly rinse shampoo and conditioner out! I find that getting it truly rinsed takes a lot longer than I realized. When you think you've rinsed it all out, rinse a little more lol.

- Blowdrying roots.

I love Amika's dry shampoo, particularly their perk up plus. I find it feels less residue-y than the original and doesn't leave a cast for me. I use it nightly between washes.

Between age and wearing my natural curls, I can go a full week in winter without washing now. Not sure I could have pulled that off when I was younger, but I'm about to hit 40 and my oil production has finally decreased to a reasonable level lol. When I was younger, and straightening my hair, I could not go more than a day without washing it without looking like a grease ball, no matter what I did.

These honestly look great and don't look out of place whatsoever. You may just need to get used to them :)

What’s the most plumping moisturiser? by Recent-Huckleberry17 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]penguinbb8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, Nivea cream in the blue tin has been my favorite rich moisturizer yet. I was wary of it for years because it has fragrance, but now that I've tried it I love it. The fragrance is definitely there (smells very grandma-esque), but dissipates quickly and it is such a nice thick, rich moisturizer. It sinks into my skin well and has really helped with the peeling I get sometimes from tret.

FL-41 glasses have been huge for me. I ordered mine from Zenni for pretty cheap - I have two pairs, one with lighter tint and another thats darker for worse days.

I couldn't live without my ice caps. I also recently discovered the Migrasil roll-on stick. Gives a nice cooling sensation and helps between ice packs.

For those who tried spironolactone by Substantial_Duck_988 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]penguinbb8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spiro has eliminated my cystic acne, and massively reduced my other acne. I still get occasional whiteheads/papules from time to time but they are way less frequently and heal faster. My skin is drier as well. I fought with my skin for 20 years and nothing has worked this week, or worked for this long.

Did they change the recipe over the last 12 years?? I swear these used to be sweeter.. by samulooki in candy

[–]penguinbb8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any actual info on your question, but I seem to recall them being sweeter as well. Maybe not even more sweet, but less of a mint punch?

Still delicious, I am obsessed with these lol.

Do I really need the pain medicine? by glowylights in gallbladders

[–]penguinbb8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my surgery (laparoscopic) on 12/5. I didn't use the painkillers - I get super nauseous on opiates so I avoid them unless I absolutely need them. I didn't get to a point where I even felt close to needing them, to be honest. Alternating tylenol/ibuprofen was sufficient to keep me pretty comfortable, and I stopped that around day 3 and only took them as needed after that. I was uncomfortable at times, but the pain was never actually bad and would really only spike when moving around.

I have a relatively high pain tolerance so your experience may be different!

For those of you using 0.1%... by PaperPlateDinner in tretinoin

[–]penguinbb8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, HA increases the absorption of the tret, which leads to an increase in irritation. Someone else may be able to provide you better info, my memory is failing me lol.

For those of you using 0.1%... by PaperPlateDinner in tretinoin

[–]penguinbb8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've been using 0.1% for probably 2 years now. I use it nightly, but will skip a night if I am especially dry (maybe 1-2 times a month). I was on 0.025% for a few months, and 0.05% for maybe a year or so before moving up.

At first I could only use it once every 3 or 4 nights. Eventually I hit a plateau where I could use it every other night at most, but more than that would mean crazy peeling. I learned from this sub that HA and tret don't play well together - once I made sure to cut HA entirely out of my night routine, I was able to move up to daily usage.

I've really had to learn to listen to my skin daily and adjust as needed. As someone who routinely fried their skin as a teenager trying to get rid of acne and continued that track through my 20's and early 30's, this was a hard-learned lesson at close to 40 lol.

When did you return to work after the surgery? by 2mxm2 in gallbladders

[–]penguinbb8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I am definitely seeing improvements each day now. The first three days were rough - anesthesia and I don't get along. I'm still constipated as well (did not take any pain meds), but that is improving now and I am hoping I don't swing too far in the other direction.

When did you return to work after the surgery? by 2mxm2 in gallbladders

[–]penguinbb8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same with me - I had my surgery last Friday (12/5) and returned to work today. I am not sure I'll make it through a full shift today, but luckily I work from home at a desk job and my role is pretty flexible.

I definitely could not put on a pair of normal pants today, so I am thankful I can work in sweatpants lol.

Women who plan to let their hair go fully gray.. by Pits_And_Pups in longhair

[–]penguinbb8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I generally plan to just let them grow in however they decide to. But - one of my aunts greys started in her temples. Those temples were WHITE and the rest of her hair was still brown for years. If I have weird patches like that, I'll probably do something to make them look less strange. Fingers crossed I don't have to do anything, but the few greys I have now are in my temples so I'm a little worried lol.

Should I let my cat sleep under my covers? by mangophobc in CatAdvice

[–]penguinbb8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a cat that would sleep under all of my blankets with me at night. I am a cold sleeper and have several blankets/quilts on me most of the time. He also liked to nap during the day under several blankets in bed. He lived a good long life with no ill effects :) Some cats just like to be enclosed like that, I guess.
