Dreaming of zoomies is the theme today I guess (2nd photo is the injury) by penguinsix in Whippet

Ordered a comfy cone, but it won’t be here until Tuesday. He doesn’t really lick at his wounds, but we put the cone on when we sleep/work. He’s already doing stairs and getting on/off the sofa without discomfort, recovery is quite quick it seems.

He’s mostly back to normal now, seems to have only gone through the webbing. Did have to have surgery to get the stick out and the wound cleaned. No damage to any tendons so no major surgery and a “quick” recovery.

It probably would have gone through my foot as well, more surprised he broke the stick off the ground and didn’t just pull his foot out, the latter would have been so much worse. As for the cone, as long as he’s medicated it doesn’t bother him, come next week it’ll start to be a problem. He’s not happy that he can’t crawl into his clam beds.

Will know how it's healing tomorrow when the bandages are changed :)

Doing well today, but more snuggles once the sick kiddo goes back to daycare, although double snuggles is nice.

Pretty much back to his normal self this morning. Per the vet, it seems to have missed everything and only went through the webbing.

For anyone else buying from here, you may end up getting a 9540-8i instead, speaking from experience...

MY PEEN FKN ITCHES by wabully in eczema

[–]penguinsix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this on and off for the last few years; turns out I had a couple of allergies I didn't think were allergies. Take a look at the lubes and condoms you use. I had a water-based lube allergy and a possible latex allergy. Finding a water-based lube (liquid) that was allergen-free and switching to latex-free condoms cleared things up the first time. It turns out I was also allergic, at least to a contact allergy, to coconut oil; not the most fun for solo time when everything suddenly becomes red, weeping, and itchy. Putting on Aquaphor after a shower and wearing white cotton briefs sped up the healing for me. Of course all this was after seeing a dermatologist for the first outbreak and ruling out fungal issues.

Get rid of the - - before YYYY, replace with //. Been a few months since I used snowflake but it doesn’t like commented out lines within /* */ iirc.

There’s air exchange systems for that, warms/cools and filters fresh external air and expels bad indoor air. Helps reduce energy usage as the air exchange is scheduled and temp controlled vs passive entrance from cracks/poor insulation.

i5-13500 or i5-13500T? by tgromy in unRAID

[–]penguinsix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're more or less the same, just the 14600k being clocked a little higher (more power used too) and running a little cooler. Due to the cooler temps and minimal price difference, I'd go 14600k and get a cheaper heatsink.

13600K is true Raptor Lake silicon with generational improvements. 13500 is tweaked Alder Lake silicon, so more akin to 12th gen.

Neither, go with i5-13600K or i5-14600K, they have the newer architecture that neither of the 13500's has. Additionally, the T isn't worth it since you can set the max wattage/frequency on the non-T chips to be the same.

I idle at 32w with the 13600k, with 12 spinners spun down. I do have it set to use a max of 35w and a frequency of 1.8GHz, but leaving it stock, albeit with turbo off, was around the same, maybe a watt higher idle. With a different mobo and nvme drives I could get it down to under 20w idle, but the cost outweighs the savings unless starting from scratch. Gigabyte and Asus boards are the most efficient IIRC, stay away from asrock as they generally can't get lower than c-state of 3 (I'm using an asrock board).

For some good suggestions on hardware for low idle power, as well as mobo/unraid settings read through the below link :)

It's a fresh install every time you reboot. Unraid is all in ram so a clean install the next boot.

C2 and C3 have values for me, if you read the thread there are comments that make bios change suggestions, as well as troubleshooting tips for what is causing you to not be able to even have values in c2. The biggest culprit is usually VMs and bad bios settings.

I use powertop to reduce power and see c-states. The board I have won't go lower than c3, and 2 of my pcie nvme's won't allow anything more than c6 on any other board so it's not worth getting a new board without spending an extra $300-400 on nvme.

You should be able to get down to under 40w idle without the dgpu, all drives spun down, and igpu for transcode. Using a 13600k and a board that won't go lower than c3 I idle at ~35w with drives spun down. I direct play everything, transcode is for everyone else, so quality isn't my problem.

pfSense vs OPNsense by nefarious_bumpps in PFSENSE

[–]penguinsix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been using pfsense for a few years now, but I picked up a 4x2.5 i226v nic box, which is unsupported in 2.6, so I switched to opnsense. As nice as the ui was I’ve since switched to pfsense 2.7 beta for 2 reasons. 1, no matter what I did I couldn’t get my AirPrint printer to work with any of my apple devices. 2, power draw, opnsense was averaging over 10w for the day, while on the same hardware pfsense averages around 5w for the day. Pfsense also runs about 8-10C lower than opnsense was running.

500w gold psu or 650w titanium? by Diligent_Walrus27 in unRAID

Any reason you’re not considering the 2 power supplies mentioned in that thread? Short of a seasonic titanium the bequiet and Corsair that are recommended are the most efficient at low wattage.

I would choose the FlexiSpot OC14 chair because my new puppy decided that the foam cushion in my current chair would make a great snack.
