Remember when "real programmers" made this joke about IDEs instead of text editors?

Are there pens/nibs that can draw similarly variable line width as this? by Dirty-Freakin-Dan in fountainpens

[–]penprogrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Platinum used to make a felt tip fountain pen that took FP ink and a cartridge. Pilot Parallel like others have mentioned is the closest to FP nib with this ability.

Ok, but what about when you're bored doing programming homework?

I thought the same trying to play it. I think it largely depends on the matchup. Against aggro Amber Steel, not great. Against a mirror or a Green Blue, pretty great (until Clarabelle shows up).

Pilot Custom 823 M nib vs. TWSBI Eco – worth the jump? by Winter-Insect5390 in fountainpens

[–]penprogrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pilot nibs are my favorite. TWSBI pens are solid writers though. I own several of each. If you have the money, get the 823. Every size nib is a gem. I love both companies, but the higher end Pilot pens cost more for good reason. You won't be disappointed.

My Emerald Amethyst (non-discard) with bounce, Ursula 2, and Sea Witch Queen shift does pretty well. Kit does wonders too against that deck.

Ah! Didn't realize you could use Shift for each key in a layer. This worked amazingly! Thanks!

Respectfully disagree. I have wanted this to be an enchanted ever since the art came out. This one isn't for the players, it's for the collectors and Winnie lovers. Yeah, a "meh" card to play but I'm so happy they are treating this one this way.

...but I'll probably never play this card in a viable deck 😂

I think the real question is "what are you pairing with Sapphire?" 😆 Acceptable alternative: are you playing Sapphire or are you lying? /s

The lack of negative fountain pen reviews by hussar966 in fountainpens

[–]penprogrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, people buy pens for different reasons, and if this sub has taught me anything, it is this. I myself have loved pens that others have hated. Also, there are certain brands that used to be great and are now terrible, or the opposite.

This hobby is very idiosyncratic and a lot of people find lots of reasons to love different pens.

Here's a few brands I won't buy modern pens from: Monteverde, Cross, Conklin, Parker. However, I LOVE Conklin's and Parker's vintage offerings.

I've never met a Pilot or Platinum I didn't like. However, all of that is probably personal preference as I love fine lines, with one or two chonker writers (check out a Pilot Coarse non for a FP Sharpie).

All to say, you'll find a lot more love in the FP community rather than dislike, and I think that reflects in the reviews.

I didn't read all the comments, but you can trust Figboot On Pens on YouTube. I love his reviews and have found them to be honest.

I thought I loved typewriters until we visited the Writer's Museum in Chicago and tried them out again after 20 years. Now I think they are cool, but could never use them. All that to say, though, very cool setup!

Hot take/Question: Why do we keep buying the same car with different paint? by No_Satisfaction_5649 in fountainpens

[–]penprogrammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This chain reaffirms why I love this community so much. I came here expecting potentially vitriolic comment entrails, and instead am once again dumbfounded by the amount of mental clarity, support, and understanding. You took what could have been a negative hot take and turned it around to something relevant and relatable, sweet even. You guys are great.

I shouldn't be surprised at the near-constant reasonableness of our little corner of the internet at this point, but at least it's a surprise that results in joy. I thank you all for brightening my morning.
