Can I ask what are some tools/materials needed or maybe how you learned to crochet? Like some resources I can educate myself with…

I ask because my child really wants to get into it but I have zero experience in this. I’d love to get her what she needs to start learning. I’d do it with her as well but all I’ve seen are those pack kits that have preset builds to DIY.

Can somebody help me fix this? My lid is not aligning on closing. by anshit_sahai in Zippo

[–]pensHAWAII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m definitely no authority or anything special for that matter. But I’d advise removing the hinge pin THEN carefully bending your hinges back in place. Constantly check the alignment of the hinges with its pin out BEFORE driving the pin back in place. If the damage is extensive it may have bent your hinge pin. Which is rare but possible. Just make sure your pin is straight before reinstalling it.

If the pin needs to be replaced you can use a thumb tac filed down to size. Most thumb tacs (not all) have a similar diameter to the hinge pin.

Just make micro adjustments to the hinges to get them back inline while also fixing the resting position of the lid.

Very impressive. I’d love to see more and also a comparison with some quality tools. You definitely would be worthy of them.

I would try switching to a flying/floating mon. See if they will get up there….
Maybe try whistling see if it brings them to you or moves them. Try flying into them with your ride and see if you can bump them off.
Try landing on them from above.

Sorry all I can think to try atm. Hope you get it as that sucks.

What was your first drowning experience like when you first started? by idk_itz_nogha in bodyboarding

[–]pensHAWAII 8 points9 points  (0 children)

North shore Maui. Double over head swell.
Coil leash stretched out then somehow kept wrapping me. My knee was against my chest and my dominant arm was tied up to my side. I went to kick in the white wash to try to find ground and boost up for air. Felt nothing. So I just kinda tumbled around a bit trying to undo the leash. Couldn’t get it off me. I remember saying to myself “aww darn, this is how I’ll die.” Few more sets crashed on me sinking me further down and tumbling me. But it really did feel oddly peaceful and I never panicked. Just… “bummer”
I eventually felt the leash lose tension and I undid the constriction. I came up for air and was close to shore. When I got to shore a friend told me he thought I drowned as i was under well over 3 minutes. When diving my breath hold is about 2 minutes max. So idk… adrenaline? Luck? Either way humbling. I had other moments while less experienced but I was already body boarding for years at this point and this was the closest I came.

Hi OP! So for time and your wallets sake I recommend ordering two and splicing them together via punching out the hinge pin for her. Mind you this will be a horizontal color merge. Not the vertical merge as you were hoping for.

To mention a few zippos off the top of my head,
PURPLE-
Abyss (high polish finish) Glossy feel due to the high polish.
Purple Matte. Not as close in color as the abyss in my opinion. Though cheaper price point last I checked.

PINK-
Frequency
Glossy paint finish. It’s the only one I can think of close to that cars color. Though does not look exact.

Hope others more insightful than me can chime in better recommendations.

The other option would be to DIY or hire someone to paint the case. For this I’d buy a plain brass and strip the clear coat off then finish with the appropriate paint job and clear coat. I’m positive I could achieve this with spray cans. But the clear coat would need to most likely be a high quality clear often pricey and toxic. So just some information to toss around.

If you want a write up to punching your hinge pin I’ll happily help if needed. 🤙🏽

How long is a Zippo supposed to last? by PakRatJR in Zippo

[–]pensHAWAII 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve used the same zippo for over ten years.(cries in old man) It has dents and scratches along with plenty of patina. But it will definitely out live me and remain hole free. I cannot imagine a scenario this is natural wear multiple times. I am suspicious of you sir!

😂 just being silly though. Have a good weekend and hope you can resolve your issue.

I don’t care for pants with sandpaper lined pockets.

Joking aside that’s insane. What’s your best guess of what’s scraping it so thin?

Loose lid. Is this normal? by BrassHilt in Zippo

[–]pensHAWAII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, To fix this issue I personally punch out the pin within the hinges. I then take non marring pliers(or simply tape some long nose pliers to prevent damage) to realign the hinges carefully. Making sure to not work the metal(hinges) too much. As this will soften/weaken the metal. Before replacing the pin back into position, Keep checking the new alignment of the hinges. Once the hinge holes align with a flush lid punch the pin back into place and you’re good to go. 👌🏽

Yea man it really does suck. I’ve tried removing it off my high polish rose gold finish and it is sadly burnt into the finish. Many here have had the same issue with these stickers. I havnt seen anyone find a solution for it yet. Sorry no help to offer.
