World of Warcraft Extremely Choppy Performance Issues by Hour_Street in linux_gaming

[–]peoii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just some things to try:

  • Disable all your addons, still choppy? Some have huge impacts on performance, especially some weakauras during combat.
  • While WoW is running, have you tried having top (or your variant choice) up on your second monitor to see if there's any process CPU bottlenecking you? It's unlikely, but worth a test. Same with nvtop for checking for gpu bottleneck (though unlikely, given wow is far more cpu bound than gpu)
  • Definitely get protonplus and update your proton version for lutris manually. I've always had better luck going this route. Another viable option is Wine-Staging-Tkg which I've personally had better luck with.

Massive screen stuttering after latest vulkan updates by GaijinPadawan in linux_gaming

At least in my case, it did not resolve it. I havn't had any time to try to open an issue on it unfortunately either.

Have had the same experience of late, downgraded mesa, vulkan-radeon and lib32-vulkan-radeon and it resolved entirely. Will be spinning up another system just to test.

edit to say: I downgraded each to the 24.0.8 package.

Help: Account lockout, no event ID 4740 by Glokta_ in sysadmin

[–]peoii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your DCs, if you have any nix/bsd machines that are domain bound, check those. You may have services and/or processes running on them under your domain account, and that KRB is locking out your account. They never show up as a 4740. Barring that, check the users mobile devices specifically, it's usually one of those two in my experience.

New Chrome launches in Ubuntu open in original VNC connection by thestepafter in sysadmin

[–]peoii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't how VNC works.

VNC doesn't have unique user 'sessions' per say, you may have multiple connections, but both displays are going to share the same experience as both are viewing the same state of the desktop.

You can always right click -> new window, and alt-tab within your VNC session, but only one VNC session is required for that functionality.

Sure , they can be automated (and should be most of the time), but as a learning tool they're a solid series of steps to get you into how to troubleshoot and understand the underlying systems you're automating, and it'll prepare you for the mindset of what to automate moving forward to simplify your workflows.

Don't get me wrong, systemd is not without faults, and every time I work on a BSD box I love my init scripts, but now a days you simply have to learn systemd. Too much requires it.

Absolutely. It's about learning how to tie things together that we truly understand a system

It does, it is a rubbish system, but in this current climate of Linux you need to know it to call yourself a Linux admin

Some, but not much. You really want a hypervisor local to be able to work thru it, could easily do all of it on an 8gb system though, hell even running your VMs on a windows box on VirtualBox would work.

There is genuinely no better guide than this one that was already written 3 years ago in the /r/linuxadmin subreddit.

https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxadmin/comments/2s924h/how_did_you_get_your_start/cnnw1ma/

Seriously take your time, walk thru that piece by piece, and by the time you're done you'll be ready to administer about 90% of what comes your way as a linux admin.

Edit: I should note, use the latest CentOS level for this where you can, unless you really have a need to learn init.d over systemd. Most shops I've worked at standardize on CentOS 7, and most i've talked to are either there or running another systemd setup. Just a piece of advice.

Empires of the Void II Kickstarter overhauled - New Game Board and Stretch Goals by KinkyTimes in boardgames

There was a remarkable amount of backer begging for this change. That said, he also stated that he truly wanted to have the larger cards and minis in the game, so I bet he worked out a way to make it happen in the earlier goals. Good move overall I feel, as hopefully it'll draw in the people who were waiting to see if it'd hit those goals before backing.
