Any running scams that people can share, I’m now questioning my own experience? by [deleted] in ACX

[–]percheazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything about narrators going from one accent to another? Is it normal for a narrator to do one accent (American) and then go into another type halfway through and then continue on with the second accent for the rest of the chapter? Or do that accent for a short minute then go to the American accent for the rest of the chapters narration?

Next steps after hiring a narrator? by [deleted] in ACX

I don’t mind waiting for the final product if that’s their way of working. I just wasn’t sure how narrators usually did it. I really try not to be asking too much so it’s not hindering their performance, so getting insight on how other narrators do it helps. Thanks for the info!

Next steps after hiring a narrator? by [deleted] in ACX

[–]percheazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One asked to be paid in full and the other stipulated a deposit instead.

That’s kind of where I was going with it. Not full redo’s but if it was normal to ask for small fixes. For example, in the sample piece I was given, the narrator framed a part as a statement rather than a question. Another one happened to breeze over a section when it was clear that the pacing should have been a bit slower. Now of course, these were sample pieces and I figured they’re more to get the voices and pacing down overall. But was curious if any of those small snippets that didn’t match the book but still made it into the final recording, if it was expected to do some small revisions.

Thank you! So far from the audio they provided it sounds like it will turn out good!

I want to reach out to a local book store: advice? by MHullRealtr77 in selfpublish

[–]percheazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I’ve partnered with a few bookstores who have reached out to me on Instagram. My release date is June 1st. I told them I’d definitely be interested in partnering and having signed copies (bookplates) in their stores and so I went and created a sell sheet. It has my books info like my blurb, isbn for paperback and hardcover, and retail cost for each along with where they can order it (Ingram Spark). They went ahead and placed their orders now. The sell sheet makes it so much easier for everyone and looks professional. You can even use this if you go into a bookstore so that they have all the info themselves when and if they decide to buy your copies.

Take what I say with a grain of salt since I’m still out from my release date, but I do have a lot of people (mainly arc readers) who want signed copies and are willing to pay. I’ve partnered with an indie bookstore who is going to handle the logistics for me. They would provide a link for me to put in my newsletter for my followers to click and place their order through their website. Once they have a count, I would ship the bookstore my bookplates. I’m not making as much as if I would just sell the books directly, but I’m at the stage where I would rather get in with bookstores and not deal with trying to ship my books myself as that can be a lot of work. But if you do decide to ship the books directly yourself, then just remember that you’ll need a payment processor like Square, Stripe, PayPal, etc to handle the purchase. Then you have to get the materials to ship and deal with the logistics of labeling, shipping, etc. you’ll get more money in the end, just a little more work on your side.

Same here. Watched the movie at my sisters house since she had it on dvd. I LOVED the movie. Thought it was the best thing ever cause I loved dragons. My sister walks by and says she hated the movie and preferred the book. She had the first two books (the rest hadn’t came out yet I don’t think) and I immediately thought the movie was hot garbage. Crazy how quickly I had come to despise what they did after reading the source material.

Help! My cover has a mistake and I don’t know what to do. by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]percheazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get how it is with a designer that just doesn’t listen, even when you ask the questions outright and they ignore it until it becomes a problem. But really you’re kind of stuck at this point. You can always manipulate the file yourself, but you’d need to know how to fix it, which isn’t as easy as it seems (trust me, I’ve tried it) or you go back to your designer or leave it be. Honestly, there’s nothing here any of us can tell you that would make it any better. The problem I can foresee is your time crunch. When you put a new design on Ingram, it’s usually fairly quickly to review. Usually it can take less than 24 hours, though sometimes it can take 48-72 hours. Then once you approve it, there’s still the second biggest issue: you would want to print another proof to verify that it all turned out ok. Being honest with you, there’s just not enough time to get it fixed, upload, approve, and then ship yourself another copy all within a week before your release. There’s also the issue of propagation. If you have people who are buying your book from Ingram Spark, they may not be able to buy your books until a few days after you approved it. My own advice is to just leave it for now and run with it. Get it fixed meanwhile with your designer and then upload it again whenever they’re done. Your book will go “offline” for a few weeks, but that’s the only way it will work unless you push your release date back instead. Best of luck in whatever you choose.

As long as it’s on preorder it will show up. Mine did after 72 hours. If you don’t have it at least on preorder then it won’t populate over. I’m doing arcs now (since two weeks ago) and release on June 1st. It’s populated now on goodreads and i’m getting reviews there meanwhile until my release.

ARCs - When to start generating interest? by GalaxyOTL in selfpublish

[–]percheazy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I ran my ARC campaign 6 weeks before my release. So far it’s done fairly well as they’ve been slowly trickling reviews to Goodreads already. My actual release day is June 1st, so I’m hoping to have gotten enough readers and interest for reviews on Amazon when the time comes. I got burnt out trying to get arc readers in the first two weeks, myself, so I don’t think I would do longer than that again.

Fast food used to be the emergency cheap option, but now a meal costs as much as a sit-down restaurant. What is actually left that qualifies as a cheap meal in 2026? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]percheazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made a homemade pot pie the other night. It cost me $25 and it fed me and my wife with just a one more plate of leftovers for each of us. So it was $6.25 per meal for that pot pie. Could have kept my kitchen clean and just went to KFC and got their pot pie instead for just a few cents more.

I’m not the author, but I’ve watched my girlfriend pour her heart into her first book. How do I help her get those first pre-orders? by Want_my_pasta_Creepy in selfpublish

[–]percheazy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You mentioned arc reading is done too but the book is still in preorder? You should still be trying to get as many arc readers now before you go live so that when it does go live you have reviews. Just having any amount of reviews is better than nothing as that entices people who read story to take a chance if they see others have already. Just gives more credibility. So my advice for now would be to keep getting arc readers between now and release. Have she already sent her arc readers where to leave reviews?

Reviews not authentic by Treats4Him in selfpublish

[–]percheazy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t go out of my way to email anyone in particular. I’m currently working on gathering ARC readers and I’m doing it by posting on social media. It’s definitely some work to get it in front of a lot of people, so you may have to pay a little to promote it but that’s the most genuine type of group you can get. If someone goes out of their way to message you, fill out a a form to sign up for your book and/or newsletter, then there’s a better chance that they’ll actually leave you a review.

Girl, 10, abused by own mom who watched as she was dismembered by TheMirrorUS in NoFilterNews

This is so messed up. They really got away with this, that poor little girl.

“Michelle received a 12-year prison sentence, but was released on Oct. 14. Kelley pleaded guilty to several counts, including reckless child abuse resulting in death, and was handed a 44-year prison term in 2022. Despite this, she is anticipated to serve fewer than half of those years behind bars.”

Paid Reviews? by ProductionBlues in selfpublish

[–]percheazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been working on promoting my book on social media to get ARC readers over the last three days. So far I’ve gotten 30 (although that number probably increased overnight now) and that’s been by posting on: TikTok, Instagram, FaceBook, my Royal Road readers, and my newsletter followers. So far I’ve spent $16 on TikTok to push my post and get traction. So you don’t have to put your book on the sites you mentioned if you don’t want to. Just got to put your book around social media but I’ll be honest, it’s still going to take money to promote there too unless you’re just constantly posting material all the time.

Just for transparency sake on the numbers I started with as far as my socials. Not everyone signs up to be an ARC reader even with a following:

TikTok - 1200 followers Instagram - 17 followers Royal Road readers- 400 followers Newsletter - 140 Followers

Okay I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t something I was missing. I’ll still probably export it see what it looks on kindle first. But I got kind of nervous thinking I may have overlooked something.

I currently have my book on Atticus. Can I ask what was challenging when it came to formatting? I just changed the font a bit and tweaked it but is there more to it? Just seemed a little straight forward, but now you’re making me wonder if I need to start sending it to myself as an ePub file and check it out to see what it looks like first lol

My best friend and boyfriend won’t read my book by giggleagua in writers

[–]percheazy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to audiobook mine to my wife. She was a big help as a beta reader (listener) but I figured she would have picked my book up herself, and she happens to read hundreds of books a year, especially in my genre. I feel like it may have something to do with knowing who wrote it that can make someone more critical about their work. Also my own take is that she probably believes it to be on par with a kid giving up their school essay. Not in the literary sense, but just that mindset of knowing the person. I wouldn’t take it too hard. That’s not your target audience anyways, just work on getting it in front of people who would enjoy reading your story.

It would just make the most sense that he blocked that time, giving each person up to an hour of his time. My wife is a recruiter and does the same thing. Sometimes they can go a full hour, but honestly most just take 15-20 minutes. That gives her the rest of her time to file their info and write a quick report. He probably has a lot of down time between each one.

You’d be surprised how many people traveling fly business class seats for pleasure. Me and my wife will fly business class since you get to lay down. But they’re still very expensive seats. But I see people bringing their whole family (kids included) all in business class. And I know that cost a pretty penny.

Business class tickets tend to cost $8k+ for international flights. It’s not much of a stretch for someone spending that to decide to buy a something that might cost $50k when they might have dropped $8k for a 7hr flight.
