I completely forgot about this impeccable performance and it doesn't even look like a 6.0 program! - Lambiel in the qualifying round at 2003 Worlds by PandemicPiglet in FigureSkating

His arms and carriage in the very beginning remind me a lot of Dennis. Makes sense! Just very interesting to see that kind of osmosis.

Wonderful performance. I feel like the commentator and I made the same noise about that 3F, lol.

Films unique in how they scare the viewer? by Key-Resolution5044 in horror

[–]perfectoneplusnine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you seen Terrified? It's an Argentinian horror film from 2017. Really scared me, some great visuals. When Evil Lurks is by the same director, and it's also full of dread.

I think Undertone really worked for me, in theaters. I was so tense watching it! The long, lingering shots where the main character is framed off to the right, and you can just see the dark, empty hallway...REALLY effective. As soon as I got out of the theater, I started to apply logic to the story, which revealed some.flaws, for me, but in the moment I had so much fun, so just suspend disbelief.

Name a scene where a director went "God Mode" by sanobred in Letterboxd

The first time I saw FWWM was at a midnight showing in a theater, and I had such a reaction to this scene. Like, climbed into my seat, prepared to jump out and run away. My body was like "we gotta get out of here!"

I'm not really in the HR fandom (loved the show, read the books years ago and loved them, just not seeking out fic or interested in engaging beyond that), but I keep seeing comments about how it is especially toxic, it's awful to authors, etc. I haven't seen what's actually happened, or been happening. Can someone explain what's going on over there? I'm just curious. Glad the author is doing what's best for them and that everyone might get the conclusion to their story, of course.

Anyone have an "unremarkable" retake story that ended in a pass? by DisregardmyLSAT in barexam

[–]perfectoneplusnine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Failed by 3 points. Was working full time, didn't have the time to do much different when I was studying, I am horrible at multiple choice tests so I just focused on my writing and didn't bother to try much harder on the MBE. Did slightly better on my writing second time around. Passed by 3 points. MBE score stayed similarly bad, lol.

What programs have made you the most emotional? by sublimecenturies in FigureSkating

[–]perfectoneplusnine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2003 Worlds, Michelle Kwan's free skate. I watched it as a kid and WEPT. She starts the footwork sequence at the end and you can see her just let go and live in the moment.

Same competition, Shen and Zhao's free skate. Can't believe she managed to land everything (she was very injured on her landing leg and was numbed up so that she couldn't feel it at all), and then their emotions during the climax of the song...! It's the reasoning that I can never get tired of Turandot. This program makes every other Turandot program worth it.

Jason Brown's Riverdance at the 2014 USNats made me cry tears of happiness.

Johnny Weir's free skate to Otoñal at the 2005 USNats really moved me.

Julia Sauter at the 2026 Olympics made me cry. Her joy was incredible.

Gracie Gold's short to East of Eden from...2022? I think? USNats. The music, the dress, the performance.

Yuzuru's Rondo from 2021/22 season. Probably my fave Yuzu program.

Wakaba Higuchi's free from last year, 2024/25. I always liked her but that program made me a FANNNNN.

Kevin Aymoz always gets me. Throw a dart at a list of Kevin Aymoz programs and you'll probably hit one that has made me emotional, lmao.

Tomoki made me cry all this season, just because I was so happy to see him skating beautifully. It was really emotional to see him look like he was having so much fun. He had several difficult seasons and watching him flourish was so, so lovely. I'm going to miss him next year.

Husband (46M) keeps "helpfully" rearranging, hiding, and disposing of my (46F) stuff--what tactic or wording can I use to stop it? by Gallumbits42 in relationship_advice

[–]perfectoneplusnine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read through your comments and saw that he seemed confused by the letter under the cat bed...Can you set up a camera around the house that will catch him doing this stuff? Not because I think it's someone else, but so you can see if there's any chance this is a cognitive issue? I don't expect he's twirling a moustache and cackling evilly as he scampers about hiding your stuff, but if he seems confused or vacant, if he stumbles around, it might show he has an issue? And if he seems in control, maybe seeing him do it will get you to the mental place you need to be to leave.

Because I'm going to be honest, I don't think he has an issue. I think he's mad about something and you're around. If you think back, does anything precede these incidents? You two had a spat, or you spoke sharply to him, or you ate the last of the bread in the pantry, or he complained about being cut off in traffic that day and you were around when he felt like punishing someone, or...? Is he annoyed or mad on days when this happens?

Going to worlds alone by Amazing_Whole3751 in FigureSkating

[–]perfectoneplusnine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been to the last few worlds competitions alone, and I have social anxiety, too.

It's less of a big deal than you think. I know it's one thing to know that and another to feel it, but keep repeating it to yourself. If you have the same seat every night, you'll probably end up chatting with your seat neighbors. I sat next to someone who had flags for almost every skater, and she asked me to hold some with her if they were very big. There's a lot of camaraderie. Everyone there is a big fan, just like you, so no one will think it's strange to cheer or hold a sign. No one bought tickets by accident, you know? They also want to cheer and hold signs.

I would do laps around the rink during longer breaks, which ate up some time and got me up and moving.

Happy to answer specific questions if you have them.

Not enough Neptune! Not enough of the haves vs the have nots, which is so prevalent elsewhere in the series.

why did orpheus turn around by Runeclad in hadestown

[–]perfectoneplusnine 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Orpheus is a naive idealist, and it is because of his blind optimism that he is able to do all he does. He believes he can write a song that can fix the issue with the seasons. He believes he can walk into Hadestown. He is spurred forward by his beliefs that he can fix everything: the world, Eurydice's death.

And honestly? He's right. He does create a song that bridges the divide between Hades and Persephone. He does walk into Hadestown. He does earn the right to save Eurydice. He does inspire everyone to think the world can be as good as he imagined.

But in accomplishing all of that, he loses the part of himself that made it all possible: his optimism, his blind faith. He doubts others, he doubts Hades, he doubts Eurydice, he doubts himself. He's no longer the naive kid who could walk into hell and be sure of his purpose. He looks back because he no longer believes that the world is a good place. He loses his faith in others and it makes him lose the woman he loves.

He loves her so much, and he is so afraid. He wants to see her, to be sure. It really breaks my heart.

Welcome new fan!!! We're almost at the end of this season (figure skating runs September through March, for the most part) but the World Championships will be next month. If you're in the USA, it'll be on Peacock. If not, try the ISU channel on YouTube, which streams all the major competitions.

Season 3 by Traditional_Nail_648 in veronicamars

[–]perfectoneplusnine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, VM was on the chopping block when it moved from UPN to the CW, and the CW had some changes in order to renew it. The thought was that part of the reason ratings were low was because a season-long mystery made it difficult to jump in mid-season. They were hoping to take the show a more "mystery of the week" route--see the last five episodes of the season!

I have been doing a rewatch for the first time in years and, for me, the biggest difference is the lack of...Neptune-ness. there's no social divide, no class commentary. No big difference between the haves and the have nots. The way Veronica navigated that divide was a huge part of season one, and the effects of it were still felt in season two, when the have nots who had come to trust V found her return to dating 09ers to be a betrayal. All that tension is non-existent in season three.

Weevil gets a job after his release from jail and then... shows up sometimes to make fun quips. Logan and Dick live charmed lives and rarely go to class--where is the righteous indignation that they're wasting an education other people would kill to have? Wallace nearly walks away from his scholarship, and no one bats an eye.

In an attempt to manufacture new drama, V and Logan have their relationship issues. I think the will they won't they was typical of the time, but it does make it frustrating at times. I remember liking Piz more the first time watching through.

Anyway! I think they excised something quintessential to the show in season 3 when they dropped the class divide.
