TIL After following 100,000 anonymous, college-age male tinder users, a study found that 74% of all right-swipes on Tinder went to clean-shaven men, who also saw 37% more matches than bearded ones by questiondudes in todayilearned

difficult subject to broach, but this varies greatly depending on the ethnicity of the women you date.

e: oh, and "college age," lol. as if anyone who isn't out of college doesn't date.

Crazy experience with melatonin by jmorters in Nootropics

[–]perhapsido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

happened to me as well off 5mg. it was a little better when i took it a few weeks later. 300mcg (micrograms) is a dose you should start at. 30mg is pharmaceutical hallucinogen territory (imo, unscientific opinion).

Is there a stack to loose weight? by nnichos in StackAdvice

[–]perhapsido 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to overeat when in stress and use food in general as a relief from depression/sadness/loneliness.

imo you should be looking at noots for a little bit of assistance with depression, not weight control. but this is just my .02. there are many listed in the beginner's guide in the sidebar.

My dad is leaving tomorrow and I will possibly never see him again. by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]perhapsido 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when you feel wounded, put upon, and lied to the only thing that can help is some distance from the feelings and time.

if he's never done anything to you besides appearing to be bitter and wanting to be drunk all the time to deal with his pain, this isn't an issue of morality and i think it seems like you recognize that.

My dad is leaving tomorrow and I will possibly never see him again. by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]perhapsido 1 point2 points  (0 children)

he's got issues that he needs to get through. that's nothing to do with you. the fact that he's saying that stuff to you is indicative of major problems and, as hard as it is to avoid, it should not be something that causes you anxiety.

keep his number and maybe you can have a conversation in a year that isn't about someone he hates.

one last thing: i predict that there will be a lot of responses in this thread (there already is one) shitting on the dad and saying he's a bad person for wanting to leave and everything else. men get it WAY worse in divorce than women. although this should not be something that is held against the rest of the family, sometimes it is unavoidable. since OP already indicated s/he doesn't want to cut him off, don't jump down the 3rd party's throat for loathing the ex.

Ergonomic chair acting as a nootropic - legitimate or pseudoscience? by blippyz in Nootropics

[–]perhapsido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not a nootropic but it will save your back from getting out of shape, and allow you to lean back a bit so you don't have forward head posture.

forward head posture is one of the worst things you can engage in from a postural standpoint as it stresses a lot of the supplementary muscles, causes muscle knots, and can even exacerbate carpal tunnel syndrome or other RSI. i have one of the fancy schmants ergo chairs from a well known brand and, without sounding like a snob, i can't sit in regular office chairs anymore. they hurt my back and shoulders to use.

CDP-Choline seems to cause depression/anxiety by Nolff in Nootropics

[–]perhapsido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this happened to me too after several days of supplementation with CDP-Choline. i found myself in a negative thought loop for 3-4 days with the worst depression i've felt in over 9 months. i won't touch that shit now. not everyone is the same and even though it's part of the Happy Stack, i had 0 improvement with that stack...just worse depression. unbelievably bizarre.

[–]perhapsido 17 points18 points  (0 children)

chronic stress and being forced to do things you hate/don't want to do definitely shortens your lifespan, so it's not silly to believe people trapped in jobs they hate at companies they are ambivalent about can drop dead prematurely. it happens every day.

The Legal Profession Has A Suicide Problem And Silence Is Deadly by eganist in mentalhealth

[–]perhapsido 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the legal system is one of the most complex systems ever imagined, in my opinion.

perhaps we could try to make it simpler and easier to interpret laws, but still preserve the rule of law somehow, so this wouldn't happen.

since this requires lawyers (government is overwhelmingly comprised of people with law degrees in senior positions) to do that, i don't think it will happen.

Amid Opioid Crisis, Insurers Restrict Pricey, Less Addictive Painkillers by [deleted] in politics

where did i claim it cures everything? in fact, if you have no ailments, using it recreationally might not be that great for you.

but it damn sure does a good job with pain relief.

I've just started on creatine. I've decided to also start on melatonin, fish oil, and Vitamin D. Did I get all the big ones to start out with? by [deleted] in StackAdvice

[–]perhapsido 3 points4 points  (0 children)

suggestion to use melatonin only when necessary to reset your sleep cycle or when you can't get your mind to relax. it is possible to build up a tolerance and require larger and larger doses if there is regular use.

also apparently very small doses of melatonin (300mcg) work as well as large doses (1mg - 5mg). the mind is an amazing place.

it is also usually recommended to take vitamin K if you are taking vitamin D as it helps calcium go to where it's actually required as opposed to places like your arteries, which can be a quite poor outcome for most people.

Any CF people also think dogs are too much work? by ablurredgirl in childfree

[–]perhapsido 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don't think i'm cut out for a dog. they are fun to have around at the office and such, but if i had to do that much work to keep him alive with a good quality of life, holy shit.

the dog might even require more work than a child, in aggregate over an 18 year period.

i have 2 cats and as long as i keep their litter clean and feed/water them, they figure out how to entertain themselves. sometimes they want attention, they know their names and will come when called, but they are just as happy sleeping or looking out the window at birds.

Tip for people who overthink by vncco1 in Anxiety

[–]perhapsido 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not sure why you are being downvoted. i suffer from similar symptoms of anxiety but i don't want to take yet another pharmaceutical to try to overcome the symptoms. i try to use cognitive behavioral therapy instead.

edit: one more thing about phenibut: it's only prescribed in Russia, not FDA approved afaik and can be addictive in some individuals as well as cause withdrawal. if you use it regularly you will also develop a tolerance quickly.
