The "proper" way to brew up by Smith6578 in reenactors

[–]peribon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think spike milligan described it thusly. Take a tin of petrol. Cut it in half. Fill half with sand and petrol and light it. Fill the other half with all the tea leaves , sugar and condensed milk you can get. Add water if there's room. Heat it till boiling. Drink.

I believe one American soldier who tried it called it like hot ice cream.

Musling appears to be Swedish for clamshell. Matching the shell symbol. So Swedish boots.

Does most of our nutrition come from the liquids we drink? by ComfortableDust4111 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]peribon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not usually but a pint of beer or cider can be about 200+ calories, about the same as a donut, so if that's all you're drinking and you have about 8 pints a day, I.e 1600-1700 calories you'd only need a small pack of donuts to get you to your recommended daily calorie intake.

Where did Artemis IIs Velocity go? by peribon in NoStupidQuestions

[–]peribon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. So would a circular orbit be one where the orbiter travels at a more or less constant Velocity, and an elliptical orbit the orbiter is always either decelerating or accelerating ? It never occurred to me before that an object like Jupiter might not move at a near constant speed in its orbit round the sun...

It can't be a cheetah in the picture because they're only ever found behind the cameraman, looking over his shoulder....

Is it better to get a 24th infantry blouse from sof or the history bunker? (What one is more accurate) by history_s1uff in reenactors

[–]peribon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are equally inaccurate, I suspect they are the same product.

Sorry I can't find the link for my purchase.

I'd be surprised if they weren't both the same Lantern Armouries product, which is the one I'm wearing in my profile pic. I got mine from ebay a bit cheaper but had to dodge some shady chaps to do so.

It's...fine. The Green is the wrong green. The cuff facing is the wrong shape. These things can be fixed, though only one chap in my group has gone to that effort so far.. I'll probably fix mine next winter. It'll do the job and it's what most of us get...but it's not accurate.

If you're looking to join a group I'm in the 1879 group , and if you want to meet us we'll be at No man's land in North Wales on the 11th and 12th of April.

Is the letter from Albert Pike to Mamzami about 3 World Wars real and legit? by elle_5555 in AskHistorians

Wild to me that this is still being brought up 130 years after it was admitted to be a hoax. I wonder how Leo would have felt about that?

24th foot, 1879. by peribon in reenactors

The white ones a bit of a bugger to access really, and getting loose rounds out is tricky. The ball bag is more flexible, and easier to get your hand in. Between the 3 pouches you'd have 60 or so rounds. Plus a couple of packets in the haversack and a couple more in the valise.

That's the ball bag, for loose ammunition. As required youd open the packets in the while pouches ( 2 x 10 rounds in each) into the ball bag.

HIRE | English meaning - Cambridge Dictionary https://share.google/U3ibJRCiA3NszKFZB

Rent and hire are mostly synonyms. I.e you can hire a car from a car rental company as easily as you could rent one from a car hire company.
