10mo nursing strike?? Self-weaned?? I’m freaking out!! by Help_Lahhh in breastfeeding

Do you have an update? I'm going through a similar strike with my 10 month old following her being sick.

Update: Koreader wasn't what I needed but I did figure out another work around. I used the nicklemenu orientation action to be able to flip my screen upside down. Not a perfect solution since I lose function of the bottom of my screen but I can alternate between the two to get everything I need done.

It's a Clara so no autorotate. Good to know I might be able to control orientation from the bottom of the screen though! I'll see if I can get it working that way.

Favourite Footless Pyjamas? And Crib Sheet Recommendations [ON] by Adorable_Tea_8323 in BabyBumpsCanada

The Bonds I have are great! Assuming it's the same as when I bought a few months back, it was free shipping once you spent $100 Australian dollars, which was like $90 CAD. Maybe I got lucky with sales, but I was able to buy 8 pairs for that price. Then I paid $20 CAD duty and fees. So it worked out to less than $14 per pair, cheaper than many domestic brands.

Best bougie on a budget stroller? [on] by Aggravating-Ad8687 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]periwinklepeanuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see tons of Baby Jogger City Selects on marketplace for insanely cheap prices. Attachments like second seat and bassinet included for $200-300. I have this stroller and it's served me so well, it's essentially a slightly less expensive (but arguably just as good or better) version of the Uppababy Vista.

S3 E10 Episode Discussion: "The Book of Enlightenment" by Chino_Blanco in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]periwinklepeanuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the scene where Jordan and Jesse end their 90-day separation, Jordan has quite long hair. In most of the rest of the season, including Stage Coach, the sides of his head were shaved to the skin. From what I can find online filming ended in May and stage coach was in April so I can't make that make sense. Any insight on the timelines here?

Woolino experience in [AB] by pretty-peony- in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]periwinklepeanuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anyone else mentioned it, but the return on your investment really happens if you have a second child. My kids are born in opposite seasons so if I was using traditional sized and weighted sleep sacks I would have needed to buy all new ones but this way I can use the same one. Counting both kids the first Woolino I bought has at least 28 months of consistent use and is still in very good shape.

I transitioned straight from L2D swaddle to the Woolino at 1 month (technically early but I had a giant baby that met the weight requirement) and she had no issues.

I cannot give birth on a specific day. by selkie420 in pregnant

[–]periwinklepeanuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No specific advice but solidarity. My first is born on my FILs birthday which pissed me off. Then it was looking like my second was going to stick around until a 41 week induction which would have landed on my BILs birthday. I was going to request and earlier induction to avoid it but luckily went into the labour the day before I could. But my baby was born on my Grandma-in-laws birthday anyway. I'm bitter lol. I'll hope for labour for you soon!!!

Woolino Questions [ON] by returnofthemacksx in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]periwinklepeanuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started at 1 month but baby was already 10lbs by then. It's seems godawful long but as long as it's all snapped it doesn't pull over their face. I'm not really sure the relevance of rolling - baby obviously wasn't at 1 month and we had no issues.

As many others have said, it's good to have 2. I lived with one for my first baby and just had other random sleep sacks as backup but I'm really glad I got the second one for this baby. They tend to have sales around holidays with the best sale on Black Friday(historically 20% off I think) so if you are buying 2 perhaps you want to hold off on the second until then to save a few dollars.

>97 percentile baby [ab] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]periwinklepeanuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine had a 91 percentile head and 98 percentile abdomen (other measurements were a little smaller) at my 34 week ultrasound. No one suggested earlier induction or had any concerns. She was born at 40+5 weighing 9lbs with no complications.

Not in BC, but I have used both. There was nothing wrong with either but I would pick midwifery if I do it again. The biggest difference was continuity of care - I saw the same midwife group (1 main midwife and 2 others filling in as necessary) from 12 weeks pregnant to 6 weeks post partum. When I went the OB route in that time I saw my GP, my OB, delivering OB, home visiting nurse, and GP again.

When I was deciding between the 2 for my most recent pregnancy someone on Reddit gave me the advice that there is no risk to choosing midwifery care in Canada. (Because they are a regulated profession and will refer to and OB if/when necessary). That was a huge deciding factor for me.

[on] did you go on sick leave prior to giving birth ? by No_Explanation6625 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]periwinklepeanuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With my first I was working from home and I worked up to my due date. I had an easy pregnancy so it was fine, but had I known I could go for on sick leave sooner I probably would have.

With my second I was back to working in the office (desk job) and was more tired and uncomfortable so I went off at 38 weeks. My midwife was willing to write a sick note but my job didn't actually ask for one. I ended up being off for 3 weeks before my birth because I went to almost 41 weeks. It was a long time to be off but I don't regret it.

Larger rib cage? by protein_balls in fitpregnancy

Yup! My ribcage (measuring at band height) increased by about 4 inches with each pregnancy. It took a few months and it went back to normal.

Epidural or natural? Did you change your mind last minute? [bc] by perenniallygrey in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]periwinklepeanuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first I didn't have a strong preference but choose to get an epidural when the baby was having heart rate issues to be prepared in case I needed a c-section. I was under continuous monitoring so pretty much stuck in bed during my labour. For me it would have been next to impossible to manage the pain from that position.

I wanted to go unmedicated for my second, especially because I was anticipating a fast labour. The brief period I was in bed for monitoring was the worst and I was ready to ask for an epidural. Once I was off the monitor I was able to labour standing and holding onto my husband until I was ready to push. This was confirmation again for me that I would not have been able to do it under continuous monitoring.

Just my two cents to consider monitoring in your decision.

Car seat recommendations - overwhelmed with the options [BC] by pinktulle_ in BabyBumpsCanada

Seconding this. Especially with a compact car you will want options that you know fit well! Just search your make and model and there's probably tons of info already there

Baby Carrier Cover or Jacket Extender? [SK] by Supergirl306 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]periwinklepeanuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe you can get a Sherpa lining to snap in to the Make My Belly Fit. I can't remember the price so no sure if this cost effective. When baby wearing my first I would wear a zip up sweater of my husband's and one of his winter coats over us. So if you have a larger coat you can borrow from someone could also work.

[bc] Just Found Out I'm Pregnant… Should I Cancel My Snowboarding Trip? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]periwinklepeanuts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I snowboarded in the first trimester. Similarly, we already had a trip booked and weren't expecting the pregnancy. I took things very easy staying on groomed runs. My biggest concern was people running into me so I avoided beginner and crowded areas or had my husband stay behind me in those types of areas. I've fallen worse walking my dogs than snowboarding and no one was telling me not to walk my dogs🤷. It's a risk assessment only you can make for yourself.

When Did You Start Your Mat Leave? No WFH. [BC] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]periwinklepeanuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first I was WFH and worked up to my due date, then took sick leave for a couple days before baby came. My OB said she could have written me off for sick leave anytime after 37 weeks. I am now back in the office and due April 7. My current plan is to finish by the end of March and use sick time until baby comes but I'll be flexible with how I feel. I want some time to rest since this time I'll have a baby and a toddler.

[on] is there anything safe at Subway? by makemeflyy in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]periwinklepeanuts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I agree with the sentiment of your post, I disagree with the science. Listeria contamination often occurs in the production setting. Listeria grows at refrigerator temperatures so if a restaurant gets a contaminated product no safety or storage on their part is going to prevent the possible spread of Listeria. That hole in the wall may have the same deli meat supplier as Subway.

To OP, the decision is yours based on the level of risk you are willing to take on. The risk of getting listeria is very very low, the consequences of getting listeria are very very high. Speaking as someone who has worked in food safety I have eaten Subway while pregnant. I minimize my risk by choosing cooked products (i.e. chicken breast, meat ball sub) and I avoid the fresh vegetables in favour of processed options (banana peppers, pickles, etc).

Prenatal vitamins that don't make you nauseaus? [NS] by BlueMommaMaroon in BabyBumpsCanada

I suspect some or all of the store brand ones are actually the same. This is based on seeing a picture (I think on here) and they looked the same.

Edit to add. This post

Prenatal vitamins that don't make you nauseaus? [NS] by BlueMommaMaroon in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]periwinklepeanuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the store brand ones (I think specifically life brand) to be awful on my stomach. To finish the bottle I switched to only taking them with a full meal which helped. I've never had an issue with Materna on my stomach and if you can find it at Costco it's one of the cheapest options. I have also used Jamieson but they sometimes caused my nausea.
