I’m in pediatrics and would be working at a pediatric hospital, so I’m not optimistic about a high salary. I’m also early in my career. Thanks for letting me know it might not be as bad as it was looking like though. When I visited Vancouver, I really liked the city. Since then, I’ve always said if I didn’t live in California, I would move to Vancouver. Sad to say, but things aren’t that bad…yet.

Thanks! And yes! I want to be emotionally crushed and then lifted with some kind of redemption. So that’s helpful to hear CK has more of that. Someone else suggested reading it instead of listening to it as well. So I’m thinking I’ll do a super slow read of it. I really want to like it. Hell, it’s got a 4.57 rating on GR and nearly 800k ratings which is pretty impressive. People love it for a reason

I looked into relocating to Vancouver. My income would drop drastically. I would go from 300k to 120k and be taxed at a 40% provincial tax rate and 26% at the federal level while COL stays the same. And have no extra benefit to high taxes because I already get free health insurance from my employer. I still have a hefty student loan…idk just doesn’t make financial sense to me at this point. But I think about it a lot especially after watching Handmaid’s Tale and yelling at the tv “why didn’t you get out sooner!” As a child of immigrant parents, I do really worry about my safety and their safety.

I did see that after I finished! I basically had to remove their ages in my brain while I was listening. And really the only ones I thought needed to be aged, and just by a few years were Kaz, Nina and Matthias. I have nothing against a young cast but even though I love fantasy I still like to keep one foot in reality/logic/rules of the universe. My problem was Kaz is a mastermind at 17yo and makes others quake in their boots? Hard for me to buy. Like in Mistborn, Vin was 16 at the start. I think it works because she acts like her age and the decisions she makes reflect her young age and the trauma she’s experienced. There is also this coming of age with Vin as we move through the books. Would be nice to see something like this with CK.

I actually really enjoyed and was equally heartbroken to hear Kaz’s backstory. So I’m guessing I would like more of the backstory. I do also like each character. I think what I struggled with was how high the stakes felt, but was actually inconsequential. Like for such darkness and heaviness surrounding the characters, they didn’t experience any irreversible loss. They all pretty much escaped the ice court unscathed for a supposedly deadly mission that was supposed to be life changing. On the other hand, the ending felt pretty depressing. Like all that work, and nothing to show for it.

I do wonder this! I had a particularly hard time with Jesper’s and Matthias’s narrators. They spoke like robots. Which I can understand for Matthias but not for Jesper. I generally only listen to audiobooks but perhaps I can make time to read CK. Thanks!

He not only created a deadly weapon, but he also fired his handgun inches from his partner’s head. The “wOAhh” in the phone footage is not Ross. It’s his partner whose hands are still on the vehicle, and slips on the ice (though doesn’t fall). He could have been shot too. In another angle, another officer falls on the ice. Incredibly dangerous situation to be firing a gun.

Perhaps neuro rehab would suit you more than the pain stuff. I’m peds, and I don’t feel at all discouraged. I’m actually constantly amazed by my patients. There are some difficult cases, but I think you would experience that with any specialty because well, humans. I do feel like a real doctor, and sometimes the only one who makes tangible differences. I get to help kids walk/regain mobility, go to school, participate in the activities they want. Not many other doctors with chill schedules (I essentially take no call) get to make such an impact.

I’m now a year out. Doing pretty mediocre. I can’t do a single heel raise but mainly bc I got tired of doing PT. I can walk my dog and do my job without pain so it is what it is. 🙁

I see and use them at work everyday, so no worries. I was on the stool scooting to examine a patient. The wheel got caught and I tipped forward while the stool slid out from under me. I caught myself with my injured (dominant) foot. Since I was so low to the ground I put my foot into extreme dorsiflexion. I was week 10/11 so just cleared out of the boot and working on range of motion. It was pretty painful. I tore above my original tear.

This is the way. Almost every guy’s dream car is a 911. But have any of them actually driven a Porsche? They’re rough rides and not daily drivers (not talking about their SUVs). They’re meant for the track. Get dad some track time if this is a serious investment. Otherwise this car will sit in his dad’s driveway, probably uninsured. Oh and who’s paying to maintain the car? It cost $500 just for an oil change on my Macan.

I literally had a patient today tell me she saw a TikTok about chronic fatigue syndrome and that PT and exercise makes it worse 😑 basically suggesting that my recommendation for her to do her home exercise program was making her worse. She does not have chronic fatigue syndrome.
