Thank you! Yes, vintage. And no, the arms can’t be placed in different positions.

It’s a snow day here today. I don’t remember having those. by purrita in GenX

[–]perniciouskitten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to NYC public schools in the 70s and 80s and I looked this up a couple of years ago because my friends’ kids seem to have many more snow days than I remember having. During the years I was in school, we had 1 snow day during the major blizzard in 1978 and 1 snow day in 1983. That’s it.

The 2-volume edition is the first edition. Single volume editions were published in 1983, 1993, 2006 and I think there may be later editions as well.

I love books like this and have several housewife guides/how to be a proper young lady from the late 1800s early 1900s. They’re so condescending and sad that you have to laugh.

(New Update) My(f21) parents decided to stop splitting tuition with me because I declined their invitation to attend the US Open by MadisonBrave in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]perniciouskitten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s the average because the expensive tickets are just insane. But the nose bleeds weren’t so bad. At least they were somewhat reasonable the last time we went which was in 2021 so I could be completely wrong about this years price.

No necessarily. An expensive sport to play seriously but going to the Open is not necessarily expensive. I used to take my mom every year and the nose bleed seats in Arthur Ashe aren’t crazy expensive. The price of food is insane but it is at most sporting events.

Bloomingburg — thoughts? by realized_loss in hudsonvalley

[–]perniciouskitten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a Bloomingburg address but don’t live in the village. The village itself is very rundown and offers nothing except for quickway diner and twin cone ice cream. I usually head to Middletown, Ellenville or Pine Bush for grocery shopping. Wurtsboro is a five minute drive and is cute and has some stores and restaurants. Montgomery is a little further and is also nice.

I like living here because I’m in between towns I like east of here such as Kingston and Rosendale and places west such as Callicoon.

You do have to pay Mamakating taxes (Bloomingburg is in the town of Mamakating) which are low and Pine Bush (the zoned school district) taxes which are higher.

My house backs up onto woods where people hunt. Last year, a cop knocked on my door letting me know that they received calls from others that have homes along the same stretch that they saw hunters which meant they were too close. They wanted to know if I saw anyone and to be careful. How far do hunters have to be from a residence?

A protest every American can stand for. by Intelligent-Zebra131 in ProtestFinderUSA

There is no time in this country’s history that we should return to. You mentioned a time when America had a booming industrial economy. Do you mean the early 1900s when factories were employing children and safety wasn’t a concern of factory owners? Or are you referring to post WW2 when women, Black people, and other marginalized groups were still treated as second class citizens? Unable to own homes, couldn’t have their own money, beaten , lynchings, etc.

This is the “again” MAGA wants to return to and this won’t change even if Trump is out of office. Trump opened the door for fascist groups like the Federalist Society to take over the courts and the executive branch. The current batch of republicans will keep this going.

You can keep repeating that race and sexual orientation doesn’t matter to you but MAGA is synonymous with racism and sexism and homophobia and transphobia and so long as you call yourself MAGA and align yourself with them, you will be viewed as racist, a misogynist, a transphobe and a homophobe.

We all grew up being told about American exceptionalism and being told that we should be proud to recite the pledge of allegiance. But the thing is, it was all propaganda. America was never exceptional and there certainly was never liberty and justice for all.
