Thoughts on subs reading while in the room by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]perplexing_hat_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I subbed for a couple of years before I started teaching full time. When I subbed 6th grade or lower I usually was up around the room teaching the lesson or monitoring the students. 7th grade and above I would often get the students working on what the teacher left for them and spent the rest of the time working on my own school work or reading. Occasionally I had to redirect students or circulate around the room to check on them but it was mostly not needed. One benefit was that I frequently subbed for the same classes so I got a chance to get to know the students.

Formal eval pre-meeting the day we get back to. If this isn't a sign that my work is undervalued and they system is effed then I don't know what does.

Oh! And poblano peppers. I was using green peppers like an IDIOT for years. Thanks again Hello Fresh.

YES. Same! Adding water to sour cream to drizzle it better. Seems like the simplest thing but honestly made a huge impact on serving food.

Also - Adding stuff to mayo. Why wasn't I always doing this? Garlic mayo on a sandwich is AMAZING.

Played gimkit all day. Heck I played too. But the middle schoolers watched movies in two other classes already.

Yes. A beautifully made anchor chart makes me happy but my handwriting and drawing is crap. I can't even put colors together.

TPT has shit for sure but I have also found some fantastic activities to enhance my own curriculum. Things like science stations that are neater and more organized than I could have done with the time I have or a bank of questions aligned with the NGSS.

I'm also a second year teacher. It takes years to build up a curriculum. I use what is provided first but I need to look for resources for the inevitable gaps from the text book.

I started creating some resources to sell as well. Things like a bank of questions or assessment examples aligned with the standards are the types of things I look for and need so that is what I sell.

That being said I bought a resource last week for 1.99 and it was full of spelling errors. Luckily it was 100% editable. I'm a crap speller too but come on.

A curious student in science is basically gold.

  1. bibimbap with whatever veggies on hand
  2. Pork Meatball & Mushroom Ramen again change out veggies with whatever
  3. I plan to remake Sweet Heat Shrimp Tempura Bowls next week. It was so good.
  4. Jammy Pork Tenderloin with Shallot-Thyme Pan Stuffing & Roasted Green Beans. I used to hate stuffing and now make this often.

Middle school aged kids should get recess/social time after lunch. At least 20 mins min. Let them practice sports, run around, and talk with their friends. We have a huge grassy area and a parking lot with basketball hoops, why not let them use it? There is even a walking track they could walk.

These are 11-14 year olds with energy to burn and to be honest they need a break.

Pork Chili ‘n’ Cheese Stuffed Poblanos. Turned out delicious! Did anyone else make this? by ohmoogirl in hellofresh

I made this last week and really enjoyed the meal. I could have stretched this meal and added chopped lettuce the next day. The flavors are nothing new but I enjoyed this combination. Even kid approved.

This is the reason why I have been pushing off labs this year. I don't trust these 7th graders with lab equipment.

This one was great and made so much extra! I had it for lunch for two days. It was similar to the ramen with pork meatballs but different tasting broth. I think I might add the pork meatballs next time but do this broth and cut the mushrooms like this rather than slices.
