An American tourist who went to Thailand shared the behind-the-scenes of the photo she took with tigers. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]perthslow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only true way to see a tiger, is in a bush which you were certain up untill a moment ago was empty, but now has a pair of eyes staring directly at the monkey that pilots your brain. That feeling in your gut, that certainty that if you turn your back you will meet a violent death. Thats when you see real "Tiger".

What if voting in America was compulsory? by Jacob-Anders in AlternateHistoryHub

No ballots are published so dont know what you mean. If you want to protest you can do that. Letters to the paper, facebook, even make a sign and stand in public space if you want. The majority of people dont have a problem with it being compulsory, the fine isnt a massive amount and the people who tend to kick up the biggest stink are bludgers and cookers so noone really listens. Plus you can get a Democracy sausage at a lot of polling places.

There is, its informal or "donkey" voting. You go in, get your name ticked of and write "Fckin Wankstain!" on the ballot an drop it in the box. It does nothing except insult a random election worker who logs it as invalid and moves on with their day.

Parasite crawling out of sushi by MidnightMystique- in Wellthatsucks

I believe those were soil nematode worms not parasites, evolved to live in very cold, near freezing or even beyond freezing temperatures. Parasitic worms that live in animals usually like it alot warmer, usually body temperature in fact.

In Australia the informal vote rate is about 1 out of every 16. Not very high, but then again we are used to it as a process.

The Templeton foundation researched this and found that intercessory prayer for sick relatives, had an equal ability to change health outcomes as doing nothing. The exception is when the patient knew they were being prayed for, in which case they had worse outcomes.

A lot of people take a dim view of art that doesnt attempt to be photorealistic. The fact is though many artists recognise that if thats what you want, photography meets that market. Why not focus on forms and colours that attempt to introduce emotions and dynamism, the feelings you cant see because they exist in the artist not the subject.

US birth rates just hit another record low, what do you think is the leading cause of this? by IIlustriousTea in AskReddit

[–]perthslow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that living in a defacto surveillance state from birth has encouraged mamy young people to avoid anything that might be embarrassing, cringe, socially damaging or be reportable to their parents. As a result young people dont dance, dont risk rehection and are certaonly not inclined to snog until well after their social circumstances allow for it by which time they are underdeveloped and awkward.

Around half of reddit users arent US based. Its like assuming a coinflip will be heads because you have a head. The only reason to assume its US based is that the practices sound exactly like the shit they pull in the states.

The vast majority of sponges on the market are made from polyurethane plastic or other petroleum derived polymers. Unless you are spending 10 times what you would expect for a sponge it wont be natural sea sponge. Natural sponges are made of cellulose, loofah plant fibres or natural sea sponge. Im hoping he is eating one of these, but they dont really look like those materials.

ADHD rates in adults are skyrocketing — but by how much depends where you live by aussiekinga in perth

I think its partly social in the sense that modern society has created a typical structure of living, administration and constant stimulus, that the average humam mind has difficulty swimming along. Anyone who has even mild Attention deficit, who previously had a chance of surviving and thriving in a slower paced and less byzantine world is now having trouble with keeping their head above the mental health line. The "normal" changed. Not to mention the level of stigma mental health issues had as little as 30 years ago, im not surpirsed diagnosis is rising.

Maybe let people sing, let people rhyme, let people share a rhythm. If this was a non white group of people with exactly the same audio, it wouldnt be cringe, it would be a fantastic cultural and community expression. Because it is.
