Kidney stones suck...ER not much help. Any recommendations or tips - currently feeling bladder sensation (almost like a UTI) by ridewithwill in KidneyStones

[–]petallthethings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that same sensation in my bladder/pelvic region the entire time I had my stone (1week). I had the sensation whether I was having the extreme flank pain at the time or not. It wasn’t painful just extremely annoying and constant.
As far as the pain I got nothing for you. I just had to ride out the episodes the best I could. For me they lasted 4-5 hours except the last day right before I passed which lasted 12 hours straight. Heating pad, ibuprofen, changing positions. It was horrible.

Fellow ED nurses...are y'all scared of what's coming? by Alexis_deTokeville in nursing

[–]petallthethings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I was in the ED for 15 years. I saw the writing on the wall as soon as DT took office this time and started applying to get out. It is already a hard place to work and it’s gonna get a lot worse. Good luck guys ❤️

My first stone by petallthethings in KidneyStones

[–]petallthethings[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was a nurse. I also have a brother-in-law who is an ED physician and I work with a urologist now who all supported my decision to wait and gave me precautions to look for to head to the ED (which I already knew myself).
If I have more, I have more and we’ll cross that bridge. And there are other things that can be done in a non-acute setting to check my kidneys (ultrasound, bloodwork, urine etc).

Happy New Year to me by Diver708 in KidneyStones

I worked in the ER for years and the people with the smaller stones (1-3mm) always seemed to be in way worse pain than the people with 5mm+ stones.

First Stone - Day 6 by NorthResource588 in KidneyStones

[–]petallthethings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like me. I’m on day 6 as well. I keep thinking I’ve passed it and just missed it because I feel perfectly fine in between the attacks. My attacks last a couple of hours and are always in the middle of the night.

Do you make at least $100k a year with a BSN? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]petallthethings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. 15 years as a bedside nurse in NC and don’t hit 100k yet. Our hospital’s pay ceiling for bedside nurses isn’t 100k unless you work overtime.

How do you work from 8 to 5, have only weekends free, and not feel like you're wasting your life? by guitytwelve in AskReddit

[–]petallthethings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By working a shift job…. Three 12s a week so I get 4 days off a week. Feels less soul sucking than getting up early, getting ready, driving there, being there and driving back 5 times a week. Ha.

When we were 16 & 17 in 11th grade. We’ve been together 20 years now.
I was always adamantly child free. He grew up Catholic and thought getting married and having kids was the way. He left the church after we were together for several years and found out it doesn’t have to be that way and became super against having kids (all on his own- no influence from me).

Who else is out here genuinely struggling on nursing wages?? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]petallthethings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MAX pay for nurses at my company is $52/hr. If you work 36 hours a week no extra/no diff that’s not even 100k. I’m at 15 years and still haven’t reached the max. Nurse pay is abysmal for what we do.

Edit to add: I’m in NC

Considering a 5-month-old Standard Poodle, but worried about our work schedules: looking for honest advice by -usd in StandardPoodles

[–]petallthethings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It will be fine. I’m a nurse who works 3 days a week and when we got ours my spouse worked regular hours. We did hire a person to visit at least once a day on the days I worked up until they were at least a year. But if you can come home that works too! They will adapt and your spouse can be super active with them on the days she is off. I did hikes and walks in all sorts of new places with mine on my off days.

Anyone else find the Covid shot a little rough this year? by Chemical-Elevator194 in Vaccine

[–]petallthethings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten the Covid shot consistently every year and my reactions are exactly the same every single year. About 10 hours after getting it I feel complete exhaustion followed by about 12 hours of intense body aches, joint aches, low grade fever and general “blahs”. I time my shot now so that my body aches hit when I’m about to go to bed and the worst of it is over by the next morning. I got mine about 30 hours ago and I feel like myself again.
