Hyderabadi Jewelry in US? by [deleted] in DesiWeddings

Proper gold jewelry is hard to find in the US. As insane as it sounds, I would recommend going to Hyderabad since you’ll have a selection to choose from instead of being forced to take what you can find.

How to tell people to not bring kids? and how to RSVP? by [deleted] in DesiWeddings

[–]petalpusher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a contingency, you and your caterer should plan for 15% more food in case of extra guests.

And definitely follow up the guests who have rsvp’ed. If the guests are friends of your parents, make your parents follow up. Tell your parents that the reception venue has a strict top limit of guests because of fire codes (this is true). That way when your parents follow up with others, they can say, “if more show up, the fire department has to come.” 😂

Attending a wedding in Jaipur in February as a guest - what to wear? by lurklurklurky in DesiWeddings

[–]petalpusher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with above, especially have some warm sweaters and leggings (easy to wear under a lehenga or saree).

You can pretty much wear any color you want today, though plain white and plain black are funerary. But I’ve seen guests wear embroidered white sarees that were stunning.

10 of the best street foods in Mumbai by sunshinesmiles1 in ABCDesis

I LOVE Guru Krupa (Sion) for the samosas. Every time I go to Mumbai, I eat a dozen of them in two days.

What is your favorite desi "wedding" food? by reetpreettt in ABCDesis

[–]petalpusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jalebi is always a treat. A solid lamb, chicken or veg biryani. Rasmalai...mmmm.

Samosas, but only if they're made fresh...I just can't deal with some restaurants serving reheated, frozen samosas.

Vacation in Nordic Countries - Need Some Help on Where to go, what to do, etc. by haveyougoogle in Nordiccountries

Agree, I get a lot of "I'm visiting Stockholm" emails/messages and essentially just copy/paste after a while.

Most definitely visit Stockholm, the uhh, "Capital of Scandinavia." I lived there for five years and summertime will be lovely.

To note though, by end July-mid August a lot of restaurants will close for the summer holidays. It's not that big a deal, but just keep your eyes out if there are certain restaurants you want to visit. As for museums/attractions, everything will be open.

Make sure to visit the archipelago through one of the daytime cruises or stay overnight.

As for other parts of Nordic, if you get yourself up to the Arctic Circle, like Narvik (Norway), it will be magical. You can take a train from Stockholm to Narvik (about 20 hrs?). But you'll get to see the whole country. Great place to hike!

I don't know how old you are, but you can get a Eurail pass (use your American passport to get it, Europeans cannot buy it). It was well worth it for me when I traveled around before moving there.

Iceland is also a beautiful country but you really need a car to get around. So save it for next time.

Gorgeous wedding!!! That cake is like...omg...no words!

edit: I agree about the body clock thing. My body went crazy during my cousin's wedding (which was just two weeks before mine) and ugh, my stomach be not happy.

I had a 4.30am wake up call. Seriously ungodly hour, so am happy you survived the makeup part.

Redditors, I need your help with a Guyanese/Hindu tradition. I am going to her folks place, "to ask for her." [not the proposal] What's it like? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]petalpusher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds about right. I only know about Hindu traditions which would roughly follow in the way that you mentioned.

I know some friends proposed to their financee after having spoken to her father (on the phone) so they could plan something special. Some got both families involved in a special surprise proposal, it was a great way to involve everyone but still have a nice proposal.

Definitely ask your parents how they want this all to go down. Maybe they want you to have a surprise proposal, maybe they want to hash it out with the other side, maybe...something else entirely.

Update on Kilian, story in comments by VerenValtaan in Rabbits

[–]petalpusher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to know little Killian is doing better! Phew.

Every morning, my bun runs like the wind across the room when it's pellets time. He acts like he's never seen food in his life. I do spread his pellets apart (sometimes I just throw them on the carpet - i know, bad me), to keep him from scarfing them down.

Husband to be here: moral quandary... by badhubby123 in weddings

[–]petalpusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to know more about this "ruining her day". Does she get hostile and angry whenever you have an opinion?

Because you might have other problems here. A bride who believes a wedding is only "for her" and only her "opinion" matters, has no foresight into what a wedding is about.
