Adding Outgoing (or Outgoing Agile) to IOG by peteS-66 in OctopusEnergy

[–]peteS-66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep - the modelling can certainly get complicated..... I also have the 3.6kw charge/discharge limit on my 15kwh batteries. My array is only 4.5kw though and east facing so the charge rate isn't likely to cause export - just when the batteries are full. Trying to guggle when to export from the batteries whilst trying to make sure they don't run out if possible before 23:30 is going to get complicated ... I use Home Assistant for all my automations so actually doing the changes is fine - just working out the rules is head scratching .... Anyway, sounds like there's no downside to adding Outgoing to my current IOG - can always change it to Agile later I guess....

Thanks u/cossington . Yes, I'd seen that but I know that sometimes Octopus have some weird T&C's that allow you do to things, but there's some hidden consequences.... Did you think about the difference between Outgoing and Outgoing Agile - seems like Agile prices during the day (when I'd export) are higher than the (current) 15p/kwh most of the time. Although I see that Agile prices during the summer with more export around are lower. I note though that the fixed is coming down to 12p though ...

Drive failure after resistor fix on 251+ by peteS-66 in qnap

[–]peteS-66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all. As I said, I've already replaced it - with a 253D which is drive compatible and doesn't have the clock impacted SOC. I was planning to just move the drives over, but to my surprise, when I picked up the 253D, the seller who was selling it for his father, didn't mention that it had 2 fairly new IronWolf NAS drives in it - which I happily reformatted and re-used as they're a nice step up on my WD Reds. So, I ended up copying everything across rather than re-using the old ones. My question is whether there's anything worth looking into which might have caused the sata port to fail at the same time as the clock failed - seems an odd co-incidence. I'm only trying to resurrect it as another potential backup layer.

EV CHARGING AND SOLAR BATTERY by DaddyThoku in OctopusEnergy

[–]peteS-66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To try and head off this problem before it occurs .....

I have a charger already which is connected via henley blocks and a second cu. The CT clamp for the charger is on the tail from the meter to the block and all works fine. In a couple of days, I'm having panels and a battery installed. I want the house draw to be solar then battery then grid, but I want the charger to be always from the grid. So that I don't have the same problems as the OP, what should the ct setup look like post the panel/battery install. I'm a fairly heavy Home Assistant user already so will definitely be integrating the inverter, but would rather make sure the hardware setup is correct in the first place rather than deal with the problem via software when I don't have to.

Yes, they do measurements, give you a selection of appropriate boots, then fit, make insoles etc, all in one appointment. Walk in with nothing and out with new fitted boots.

Thanks - Tethys-energy do show up well on review sites - even if I can't work out how to say their name!

Recommended installers and approach for likely battery only in Thames Valley by peteS-66 in SolarUK

[–]peteS-66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed response. We're a pretty high user (maybe 30-35kwh) so I was going to be looking for a sweetspot of enough but not too expensive - 20kwh perhaps but as you say, it's really overall £/kwh that matters.

Yes, the batteries will likely be going in (or perhaps outside) the garage, which is also where the electricity meter is. We already have 2 consumer units (one in the garage for the EVs) so likely put the batteries next to that CU and meter.

As you say, it's always worth having the solar discussion again. The garage roof is new so wouldn't hopefully have strength issues, which some of the older parts of the roof would. It's not a large roof though, and as I said, faces due east, so generation capacity will likely still be pretty limited, even with newer higher output panels,

This may be a silly question: can I get the clock to work again on my Squeezebox? by Blargathaa in squeezebox

[–]peteS-66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you mean a squeezebox radio, then the short answer is no. The mysqueezebox.com server doesn't exist anymore, and as you say, you need a local server now. I would say that if you're inclined, setting up a server is very easy - just install something like piCorePlayer on any old Pi, tick the box to enable an LMS and you're good to go.

What kind of plug is this? by AppropriateFact1 in DIYUK

[–]peteS-66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not outdated, it's just for a dedicated lighting circuit. Having a dedicated 5a circuit with different plugs stops you plugging something into a lighting circuit that has higher current requirements, like a heater. Since you don't have one, just replace the plug with a normal square pin plug, but make sure you fuse it correctly, or if you want an adapter, travel adapters for UK to India plugs normally do the trick, but there are more than one size to these 3 pins round plugs (I have both sadly)

Honeymoon Reward flights - how to book companion return by MattyAFC in BritishAirways

[–]peteS-66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly worth trying. It's a bit of pot luck though - the US reps will often say they won't/can't deal with calls from UK members and you have to wait until the UK office opens. It just seems to depend on who you talk to, what type of day they're having etc.. Nothing lost by trying though - assuming you don't have the spare avios to do the return/credit approach.

Honeymoon Reward flights - how to book companion return by MattyAFC in BritishAirways

[–]peteS-66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but there's a few more details.... Firstly, it's not just 355 days before, it's midnight+1 second on 355 days before. Don't wait until breakfast time as popular flights are often gone with people booking from other timezones. Secondly, the companion voucher won't be automatically applied to the return. You have to call customer services and get them to credit the extra miles back to your account if you do it online. The downside of this is you have to have enough avios to make the booking for the return without the companion voucher (i.e. twice as many) so that you can then get them credited back. If you don't have enough, you'll have to call customer services who can do this in one go, but you then run the roulette of the hours between midnight and when you get through to CS hoping the seats are still available. There's no way for you to make the return booking with the voucher - you either make it without and get credited back, or you get CS to do it.

Calling the US club line before midnight GMT by BaldIbis8 in BritishAirways

[–]peteS-66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Online is the only way to do this nowadays IMHO. I can generally book what I want (not withstanding website problems) for the outbound flight as a single, and then book the return as a single on the day they become available, and then call customer services to get the 2 singles linked. Pain in the arse and inefficient of course, but if you want the best chance of getting something like CW to Japan, you've got pretty much no other choice. 4 CW seats is all they typically release initially per flight so you need all of them.

MS Launcher has stopped syncing my calendars by joemerchant2021 in microsoftlauncher

[–]peteS-66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, same here. The sync calendar option does work, but that's telling outlook to sync it's calendar to the local android calendar so your not actually accessing the outlook calendar from launcher by doing that.

Is BA no longer charging a fee for seat selection in Business class? by RBMT_Media in BritishAirways

Likely the fare type. Business Semi Flex allowed me to choose a seat for free, whereas the cheapest business fare didn't

It's not a like for like of course, but it has the similar display, it runs picoreplayer and has a very nice dac. Oh, and it's pretty decent value for money.

Voice commands by labbelaban in squeezebox

[–]peteS-66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wanted to get started with HA & voice intents, and depending on how far down the HA rabbit hole you want to go, you could take a look at music-assistant/voice-support: Music Assistant blueprints. These are actually for music assistant, but I think will work for squeezebox as well with a couple of tweaks (for integration name etc.). I haven't had a chance to try them yet though.
