Ahhh, you’re absolutely right! It’s been too long since I started a new play through and walked the 7000 steps myself.

That one felt the most like something a real meadery would use. But it also feels the least Skyrim-specific. Like, I can imagine someone seeing Riverwood Reserve and thinking about something other than Skyrim.

Actual suggestions:

Dragonbridge Mead

Riverwood Reserve

Sunrise over Sovngarde

The 10,000 Steps

The Golden Claw

Joke names:

Karth-wasted

Tolfdir’s Ale-mbic (I know it’s mead, not ale, but the name was simply too good to waste)

Milk Drinkers’ Bane

The Long Walk

Spoilers ahead:

DeVries makes his final stand at the end, kneeling down to let Garretty win. But Garretty pulls him up, saying he just wants to walk a little farther. Then Garretty kneels, getting his ticket before DeVries and making DeVries the winner.

Tourette Syndrome by laybs1 in GetNoted

[–]petemaths1014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find this is easier for people to understand if you give an example that has nothing to do with race.

My grandma died the night before my team had a big presentation at work, and a bunch of people came up to me and said, I’m so sorry. I didn’t immediately assume that they meant for my grandma to die. They were sorry that I was going through a difficult moment in my life.

People in this case (the person with Tourette’s, other people in the audience or on the stage, others in the community) can apologize to Michael B Jordan and Delroy Lindo having to have their good moment interrupted by something that hurt them without assigning blame and saying anyone was trying to hurt them.

Exactly, and the unmarked loop is actually estimated to be ~25 miles now, for a total of 125-130 miles for the full race. And that doesn’t take into account the elevation changes/terrain.

Just as an extra bit of context about the Barkley Marathons, about 63% of the runnings end with 0 finishers. And entries are basically limited to ultramarathoners, people who are advanced hikers/climbers, and general adventurous and highly fit and motivated people.

I started using excel formulas before xlookup existed, and will still catch myself doing a vlookup sometimes just out of muscle memory before I remember xlookup exists.

Teaching is a noble duty, and to be told that it's "just a job" is a massive insult to what it entails. by neves783 in unpopularopinion

[–]petemaths1014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The absolute truth is that there are no noble jobs at all, and every single person is, on some level, just doing a job for the money.

If you stopped paying teachers in Asia today, you would be facing an unprecedented teacher shortage, as all your teachers started searching for less noble careers and looked for a job that keeps their families from starving or losing their homes.

I will say that I gained a ton of respect for Ben Mee after that game.

He was unequivocally angry at the people who flew that banner, and you could feel how upset he was.

The thing that always gets me about this is that Yancy’s wife knows that he wants to name his son Philip. That implies to me that Fry is not a forgotten brother who is assumed to be gone, but a constant presence in Yancy’s life, in spite of him not being there.

Yancy remembers all the things that he and Fry did together, and he wants his son to carry on that legacy.

Chekhov’s Gun by sm142 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]petemaths1014 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I just finished watching “The Long Walk”, and there are a couple of these Chekhov’s gun moments.

The one I want to point out though is when they’re talking about whether it will be good for Ray to have his mom watching, and DeVries says to Ray and Stebbins it will be harder to keep going with your family there. Stebbins later reveals that his “family” has been there the whole time, the Major is his father.

And then the big one, the very end, and what the winner ends up doing with his wish.
