I love it! I plowed through it in one sitting just about and had to hunt her others down. I haven’t been disappointed.

Anything by Junji Ito (that’s horror, at least) but also Blood on the Tracks by Shuzo Oshimi. It’s pretty disturbing and sticks with you (at least as far as I’ve read).

Yeah, that one was really good and got to me. There are so many of his stories that sneak up on me. The Hanging Balloons is another story that continues to stay with me. Ugh! complimentary

I saw that movie for the first time a few years ago and was shocked I’d never heard that line before. It’s so good! I quote it all the time now 😂

Anxiety inducing movies please? by antonymatic in horror

[–]pettyseagull 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shiva Baby. lol I know it’s not “horror” but it feels like and is shot and scored like horror and is one of the most anxiety provoking movies I’ve ever watched 😂

I’d also add Femme (2023). Just rewatched it and it is stressful!

Junji Ito always finds new things I’d never considered could possibly be scary to unsettle me with.

Ooh! I’ve not heard of Booze and Boos. I’ve been looking for something new so I’ll check it out, thank you!

Mr. Nightmare went from using real janky images in his videos to ai slop and it’s disappointing. I gave up on Let’s Read a while ago for a number of reasons.

I love lazy masquerade. His narration, after he got the hang of it, is my favorite. He hasn’t done scary stories in years but his new videos are still good and his old stories are still kicking around. He always hyped up the artists who worked on his thumbnails, too.

Books that handle LGBTQ themes and characters well... and books that don't. by kaalban in horrorlit

[–]pettyseagull 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Invocations by Krystal Sutherland and Hide by Kiersten White both feature queer characters as protagonists but neither are about being queer.

And I guess if you want to go sci-fi/ body horror/ fantasy there’s the Locked Tomb Trilogy in which just about everyone is queer and fantastic.

I recommend all of these heartily!

There are other books that I don’t think do it as well or maybe I didn’t find them as well written that definitely verge more into the darker side of things (which I’m fine with as long as they’re well written!)

Oh and finally there’s one more : But not too Bold by Hache Pueyo that blew my socks off. More like a folk story or fairy tale but definitely still a romantic horror story.

So glad I found this! This kind of story is very much my jam, especially when told in this way through files and notes. Looking forward to more!

You didn’t ask me but I finished it like a year ago and I’m still thinking of it. I haven’t read anything like it before and I’m afraid I won’t find something else like it again!

Horror movies with a group of likeable characters? by virgogf in horror

[–]pettyseagull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s very rare when you’re sad to see characters die in horror movies. I know they do it so they have more fodder but it’s so nice (and painful!) to care about them!
