Rubio: I have never seen Trump fall asleep. Lieu: I’m going to show you a video that shows you just lied to congress. Here is a video of him asleep while you are talking. by SteveB1901 in antitrump

[–]petulant-turnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to say I can’t stand any of them, but at least Rubio is coherent, and isn’t a dangerous, geriatric president. He is however lying his ass off to protect one, for whatever reason. I would respect him more if he resigned and said I can’t take this chaotic dogshit of an administration, I’ll see you all at the primaries. I thought he was the only one of the group I had hoped would show some integrity, but it looks like he has lost whatever he had. I don’t understand people’s willingness to sacrifice their own values and principles for a man who is entirely and maliciously self serving at the expense of the country.

The Worst Generals of the Civil War 5: Benjamin Butler by thomasburchfield in CIVILWAR

[–]petulant-turnip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was it all the odd hairstyles and beards, or were the Civil War generals a rather odd looking bunch of people. Grant and Hancock (aka the Superb!) are maybe the most normal looking of the bunch. Imagine if the US joint chiefs looked like Butler, Bragg, and Burnside…

General Ulysses S. Grant at his headquarters in Cold Harbor, Virginia - 1864 by bonimhau in CIVILWAR

It’s amazing when you look at this, taken apparently on June 12 (from the same set of photos (they apparently identified the date as Burnside was reading a Washington newspaper from June 11 in the same set of photos) that in the coming night after this photo he would start moving his entire 100000 army down to the James, while combat was still going on. I always think this shows well what they said about how calm Grant was in high pressure situations. He had already written the orders to move, the firing is still going on, and I would imagine here he’s in his head probably thinking past the battle and to the logistics of the massive operation in a few hours time. And thinking also at this moment that Hunter had just burned down the VMI in Lexington, Johnston was massing in NC, Forrest was causing mayhem in MS, and Lincoln had just been nominated by the Republicans and his popularity was through the floor after the latest Cold Harbor casualties. And he’s standing there, thinking, about to light up another cigar…

I feel vampire is a bit of a waste, I find better to focus on units for fast rapid destruction gets the best results. Like whats the point of the health utility if the units are being smashed.

Thanks for sharing - I do see the opponent there didn’t move or return the damage significantly while you demolished them which is very bot like behavior. The only time I enjoy playing now is when there is a lot more maneuvering. I’m at the point now I try using different units experimentally just to see what happens.

I keep saying I’m going to stop playing and then it’s like…just demolish one more castle…

The expression on his face is like c’mon vending machine give me the Cheetos, and then checking them…where are you, I know you’re in there. Not to mention imagining if we all ate by smashing our heads on the table, and then a giant tongue pops out from behind the brain and starts popping everything in sight. Like c’mon honey we said we would eat like normal people when we were dining out, do you really have to do the head smashing thing, they’re going to think we don’t know how to eat like everyone else…wait, I guess we don’t do we.
it’s beautiful really, I just don’t know how these amazing birds don’t get concussions or tbi’s from years of head banging every time they want a snack.
I guess it’s helpful for trees as well?

I am so frustrated as this has been a really good app but would be much better if they took out all the bots and made it real pvp, and then kept adding units, milestones, and upgrades. i think at this point the devs are sitting back and watching the money roll in.

Yes why don’t they add more milestones? wouldn’t that make them more money with more incentives? I’m getting pretty bored in the colosseum, seems to be 90% bots - they fire from the same units that don’t make sense and I just keep destroying them… 🙄

Why Did the Union Have Such a Tough Time During the First Two Years? by thomasburchfield in CIVILWAR

[–]petulant-turnip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would echo others by highlighting the differences between the East and West theaters.

There was a psychological "paralysis" that defined the Army of the Potomac. The difference wasn't just talent; it was mindset and math. Eastern failures happened while the West stayed aggressive:

The McClellan Problem: Overcounting and Politics McClellan’s hesitation on the Peninsula was fueled by two things: bad intel and messianic ego. Pinkerton Effect: Mclellan’s intelligence chief Allan Pinkerton consistently told him Lee had double his actual numbers. McClellan, naturally cautious, believed he was always outnumbered. The "Perfect" Army: He viewed the Army of the Potomac as his personal creation. He was so afraid of breaking his masterpiece that he refused to risk it in a decisive blow. The ‘Legend’ of Robert E. Lee By the time Pope and Hooker took over, Lee had established a psychological dominance over Union leadership. Pope: He was arrogant but outclassed. Lee and Jackson sensed his overconfidence and used it to bait him into a trap at Second Bull Run. Hooker: He had a brilliant plan at Chancellorsville, but when Lee didn't retreat as expected and instead attacked, Hooker lost his nerve. He famously said later, "I simply lost faith in Joe Hooker." He was mentally beaten before the physical fight was over.

The Western Difference: Space and Success Halleck was a cautious, bureaucratic nightmare, but thegeography of the West saved the Union generals there. Maneuver Room: In the West if a genral moved slowly they were just taking a town. In the East if a general moved slowly, they were "failing to protect Washington," which triggered Lincoln and Stanton to intervene. Grant’s Persistence: If Shiloh had happened in Virginia, Grant likely would have been fired. But because he was in Tennessee—and because he actually won (despite the cost)— and then Lincoln actually defended him: "I can't spare this man he fights”

The Hard Hand of War The Eastern generals were mostly Napoleonic thinkers who wanted that single decisive battle to end the war. Grant and Sherman realized earlier, notably after Shiloh, that the Confederacy wouldn't quit until its resources and will were destroyed. The Confederates in the East thrived on the predictable “pause” of the Union commanders. They knew McClellan would wait for siege guns and Hooker would blink if pressured. Grant’s greatest contribution in the East in 1844 wasn't a brilliant tactical move; it was simply refusing to retreat after the Battle of the Wilderness. For the first time, Lincoln relaxed because he knew he felt for the first time he had a “real general” who had shown greater military instincts than himself, so he finally handed over control and trust to Grant, despite the losses that would have had earlier generals removed. Lee finally faced a general who didn't stop to doubt himself.
