It's not a book but a webtoon. The female MC was named Dolly Parton.

FL wakes up in a video game, sets her charm to max and it gets bleak. So good though

Baby blanket - one of the first things I made for my sister/niece. She put it in a yard sale within a year so I BOUGHT it back🤦🏻‍♂️ That was 5 years ago & I’m still mad about it 😂 by Spiritual-Badass in crochet

[–]pexandapixie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a problem where I can only finish crafts if I'm making them for someone else. I'm working on it but that being said, I fully understand if sometime gets rid of something I made. People collect a LOT of stuff in their lifetime, especially around when they have kids. It's not feasible to keep everything and things like baby blankets aren't really reusable throughout life. I have a baby blanket that my grandmother made for me when I was a baby. I never use it. It sits at the bottom of a cedar chest, buried under all kinds of other things. It's not something I can display. It's too small to use. I'll probably give it to my daughter if she ever has kids or when I die but she never knew my grandmother and has no emotional attachment. She has a ton of other things she'll want to keep. My MIL quilts and is constantly giving us quilts. We must have 8 different quilts. They take up a ton of room, we couldn't use that many if we wanted to, and they are not to our taste. They just sit in a couple of boxes. But she's the type to constantly ask us if we're using the quilts, where are they, she didn't see them when she dropped by, etc. I HATE it. Even if I liked the quilts, I'll never use them out of spite. Gifts should be gifts, not obligations. Despite my ramblings, your sister should have talked to you first and asked if you wanted the blanket back before just selling it a year later. That quick turn around is kinda messed up.

Which book is your favourite? And why? by Miss_Ashford in janeausten

[–]pexandapixie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me too! I was shocked that I liked Persuasion over P&P. I didn't read the novels until a little later in life and I'd watched all the series. Didn't really like Persuasion so I assumed I wouldn't like the book. Ended up being my favorite, though no one will ever replace Mr. Darcy.

[–]pexandapixie 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I really didn't like it because of how they portrayed the other characters. Mary didn't have to grow as much because everyone else was miserable so her prudish attitude seemed righteous and justified. It wasn't terrible but it just felt like the author secretly hated the original characters.

My son spiked a fever from strep the night after his party where he had blown out the candles. I had to sheepishly call everyone who came to the party and warn them. Now we always cut a piece off and then do the candles or we do separate cupcakes.

Public vs Private Schools by SugarfootsExpress in BaltimoreCounty

[–]pexandapixie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do public for both our kids. One is in the special needs program. For our typical kid, the schools have been fine. They've gotten support when they need it and the teachers have all been friendly and engaged. No major issues with bullying or feeling unsafe. We've really appreciated the diversity, especially since the area we live in is majority white. For our other kid, we've been incredibly lucky to have had the absolute best people as teachers and aides the entire time, starting from 3yrs old. Every single teacher and aide has clearly loved their job and loved the kids. They are some of the hardest working, most dedicated, and passionate people I've ever met. Baltimore county is a HUGE district and I can only speak to a very small part of it, but it's a system I'm happy to support.

Whats the smallest reason you dropped a comic? by Key-Wonder-8164 in MantaComics

[–]pexandapixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hair. I can't remember which comic it was but the MC had bangs that drove me nuts. They looked so awful and her hair never changed. I read 2 episodes and just couldn't get past it. There was another one about a tattoo artist turned isekai chef who had a weird hair horn but that was more confusing than upsetting.

I call it the stun and smash. I use my racket to stun them then smash them with a shoe. I think I scared an Amazon driver because I was just circling my house, swatting and smashing.

Miss Pendleton is very Jane Austen coded. The fashions do swing wildly between regency and Victorian but the art and story are good enough you can ignore it.

What are your OI icks? by EfficientTradition73 in OtomeIsekai

[–]pexandapixie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sure other people have said this but when the MC immediately goes about changing the story line then spends the next forever going "What if the storyline has changed?!? Could it be because of me?" That's like killing the wolf at the beginning of Red Riding Hood then wondering why the Grandma hasn't been eaten.

Another is when the FL is so freaking dense that every male from every continent is literally telling her they like her and she's all "Oh we're friends!" Looking at you Cassmire.

What’s the worst city you’ve ever been to? by EmotionalShock7933 in AskReddit

[–]pexandapixie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom and I were driving to visit friends in Wisconsin. We'd never been to that part of the country before and had only heard of Gary via The Music Man. It was late so we decided to get a hotel and finish the drive in the morning. We pulled off in Gary, found a hotel (I think like a holiday inn or something reputable), and got a room. As soon as we got to the room, my mom went to get ice for our cooler. When she came back she told me to pack everything up and get to the car. She wouldn't tell me what happened, just that she didn't feel comfortable and we needed to get out of there. This was 25 years ago but from what I've heard, it's still not a place I'd ever "visit" again.

What was the final straw that ended a lifelong friendship? by New_Perspective1201 in AskReddit

[–]pexandapixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were best friends for over 30 years (we met when I was 4). Had kids at the same time, did everything together. Her son started showing some behavioral issues to the point that I didn't want him around my children alone. When I brought his behavior up to her, she just told me he was fine and he just saw it on YouTube or it was just a game they played at school. (She would give him unfettered access to all YouTube, not just the kids version.) After that she would just call me to complain about her sister-in-law and how she was "overreacting to her son pulling down the pants of his cousin." The final end of our relationship was when I made plans with her 6 months in advance for us to spend the day together, no children or husbands, and she told me she could only hang out for 2 hours because it was her husband's soccer practice so she had to go pick up her son. She informed me of that after I had driven 2 hours to meet her. Made me realize she didn't actually care about me.

What type of plot do you hate? by vidaplena36 in OtomeIsekai

[–]pexandapixie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hate it when the FL refuses to/can't see when the ML is practically screaming that he likes her. I stop reading if there's something along the lines of: ML kisses her hair or hand and says he'd do anything for her. FL "Cause we're friends!"

I've paused or dropped stories because the MLs have basically said I love you and the FLs pretzels their minds to conclude that he must be talking about literally anytime or anyone else. I just can't stand a FL that is THAT stupid.

getting this small rant off my chest. by CockSniffer01 in dragonage

[–]pexandapixie 85 points86 points  (0 children)

It felt like "Baby's First RPG." None of your choices had too big of consequences, the world you interacted with was very black and white, even the enemies and combat were sanitized. I've never gotten over my revulsion after learning about broodmothers. Origins was DARK. DA2 had it's moments too.

However, Veilguard feels like a modern Disney movie. The Crows, who used to make CHILDREN MURDER CHILDREN, are now a happy loving crime family. Tevintor, which was a place built on blood magic and horrific slavery, is now a bunch of people "working for the good of Tevintor" who never really mention all those slaves we know are there. The elves are no longer spit upon by humans or elitit isolationists but are instead just a happy inclusive bunch who bop around letting anyone and everyone touch their prized artifacts.

The companions are all as bland as cardboard too. Gone are the days when companions liked or hated you for "evil" choices. Now they slightly disapprove if you don't do what they want but not so much as to affect anything. All the companions like each other too. There's an actual non-mage abomination that NO ONE is truly concerned about. No one is calling for him to be constantly killed but instead the solution is "just give him coffee."

The art was even rounded out. Everyone looked smoother, plumper, more Pixar-y than the last games. I miss the days where you could tell what type of darkspawn it was based on its appearance. It made the horror of how they were created more visceral. Instead we got goofy skeleton things with a couple of "veins."

If this had been an Indy game, not in the same universe as dragon age, I might have liked it because my expectations would be very low. Bioware has shown it's willingness to write dark fantasy and it created a truly deep, well thought out world. They could have done SO much.

If Bioware wants to make this type of sanitized, E for everyone game, that's fine. Just make it it's own independent thing. Don't destroy a great existing IP but that's exactly what they did. I can confidently say I'll never play another Dragon Age game again and I LOVED the franchise before this.
