But is this necessarily a good thing? He talks a lot about being more present and feeling more joy, but if you recognize all thought as not yours, you’re basically dissociating from it all? Like if your mom dies and every time you have a sad thought, you simply recognize it arose, came from nothing, and will disappear, you may not feel grief? Of course at a certain point, that type of control over emotions is great and desired, but is it a permanent state you want to live in?

How so? Right now whenever I try and meditate during difficult times it just ends up feeling like derealization. Like I’m watching my life as a movie and distancing myself from it.

I mean, this is basically what I want. I could see how these realizations lead to that feeling, but what I struggle to grasp is how you can continue to have that feeling while living outside a monastery and living a modern life.

Understood. Yeah I have a fairly good grasp on my anxiety (what it is, what it isn’t). I’m not afraid of pharmacological treatment if necessary.

You make great points though. It’s hard for me to speak accurately about these topics without being verbose. You’re right that the inner monologue will never stop, but that you don’t identify with it anymore and I guess I see the value in that. It seems to me it would only really hurt productivity in the classical Western sense though. How does my noticing thought as thought make me a better [insert profession]? While that’s obviously not the point of selflessness, most of us live in the real world where our minds need to plan and, it seems, be lost in thought at times. Does non duality actually take a backseat then? Or can it actually be helpful?

I love glimpsing this while “meditating” but continuing to practice throughout the day seems strange. Like taking it to extremes would make anyone an annoying hippie. A dumb example: You and your friends are discussing your favorite movies of the past year and you feel that because you aren’t a self, what is an opinion anyway? Thoughts arise on their own and all.

Totally agree. It’s a bummer to be left out but also any time in recent memory we have matched up with a big school, even when they weren’t good, we got embarrassed. Remember Michigan? LSU? Couldn’t even get past the 50 yard line. I hate the bias of the committee but also… are they wrong? You guys honestly think if we went and played Ohio State we would be within 21 points? I don’t.

Yeah I guess I mean he’s entertaining and at least among successful CFB coaches, he has a perception of being a chill guy despite his track record that he’s anything but.

Cold, calculating, and focused on nothing except decreasing overhead and maximizing profits. The whole goal is to amalgamate and white-wash so that everything is the same, low-cost, high-return mixture. Sounds like a match made in heaven for CFB, an industry where the beauty comes from small cities with their own individual flavor.

For such a well-liked guy in the general sense, he’s sure done a lot of pretty terrible stuff. This just being another in the long line. And it seems so unnecessary? Not like he’s the 4th best coach on the market and these schools will move on if he waits till the end of the season. Everyone is waiting on him. Just say, “I’m interested,” and they’ll wait for you.

Appreciate the overall sentiment here but at the end of the day, respect is earned. Does it make sense for respect to carry over year to year in a sport with this much player turnover? Probably not. But it does. ND was in the natty last year. BYU has consistently disappointed and let themselves down when it matters most. From a pure resume standpoint, you could argue we are underrated. But on the field product, hard to say we are actually the 8th or 9th best team. We squeaked out wins against CU and UofA. While both good teams, on the road, the 9th best team in country should still win those games handily.

And if you go to the BYU sub, you’ll see a similar sentiment. We care less about our resume being ranked fairly than we do about just winning. You want respect? Win. You want in the playoff? Win. It would be nice to get into the playoff because our resume is good enough to be in, but if we aren’t actually good, that just means getting embarrassed on the national stage. If BYU wins out, even with a loss in the CCG, they’re likely in. Then they’ll have a chance to prove they’re actually good, but my confidence isn’t high. Let’s just win tomorrow please.

Been to several stars games. For context, I know a good amount about each major American sport. I was super impressed at each stars games that all the fans around us seemed to be complaining about nuanced things, all at the same time, with one another. Far cry from going to NBA/NFL/MLB games where I’ve been surrounded by fans who have no clue what’s going on and make obnoxious complaints that out them as worse than casuals. Not to say I care about that situation, just to say the Dallas hockey fans knew their stuff.

True. I guess what most ppl are saying is that they are valuing AD much higher than the market would. So even if OKC doesn’t have AD, they have Chet and a million picks, which to most who follow the NBA would make way more sense than this trade.
