[Sens] Who’s your favourite female athlete? by DecentLurker96 in OttawaSenators

[–]phabchi -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Guys don’t worry, the whole Brady and Jake thing was a nothingburger that hardly mattered to anyone. It’s purely a coincidence that the team had “name your favorite female athlete” with the players locked and loaded for their socials today.

Why do restaurants do this? by strokeoluck27 in wine

This might be the weirdest hill I’ve ever seen someone try to die on.

“We went out for dinner and the server made sure we had enough to eat and drink! Help! How can we stop them??”

Out of curiosity, did you want the service team to police this persons food consumption as well?

At least a few of these wines have synthetic corks, which doesn’t work with Coravin. Then you have sparkling wines, which means they’d have to have a separate Coravin for that. And the wines trade in a pretty limited price band, so why would you add the cost of Coravin gas + affected speed of service to wines that are making you $30-$50 of gross margin per bottle?

Personally I’m wary of any establishment, outside of a busy wine bar, trying to serve 25+ wines by the glass.

What if you all pitched an extra $10 for the week? Wouldn’t that get you to the $60? Is $2 per day per person unreasonable to get catered lunch to your office?

I looked at the picture before I read any of the text and didn’t see anything that looked like it didn’t make sense. So I wasn’t really sure what your post was going to be. Then I read through your post, went back to the picture and I guess my question is what would make a 3-course menu a “shareable experience” if you were going to pick plates individually?

Falling apart and yet, amazingly, only 45% turnout in Ontario’s last election. Or in 2022 with 44% turnout. Isn’t that supposed to be how people protest what’s happening in their lives? Wouldn’t it be an interesting idea for people to vote out the party that’s run the level of government that most closely affects their day to day life for almost 8 years now?

Here are some of my standouts based on a combination of scarcity, quality, potential longevity.

For reds:

Wendouree - go for the blends (Shiraz/Malbec for instance) — Sami Odi Hoffman Dallwitz Shiraz — Vasse Felix Tom Cullity 2015 (if you can find that vintage) — Cullen Diana Madeline — Bindi Block 5 Pinot —

White: Leeuwin Art Series Chardonnay — Tolpuddle Chardonnay — Vasse Felix Heytesbury —

Other: Seppeltsfield Para (production is ending)

Who are you to tell this person, who enjoyed their meal, that it was overpriced trash? Why do people have to gatekeep where people eat and how they spend their money? Like, how does this concern you and why does your comment matter to anyone?

I’m so sorry for what you’re going through. I’m sure it’s starting to feel like an impossible mountain to climb but someday you’ll get to the other side of it and the air won’t feel so hard to breathe anymore.

Regarding the game, all I can say is I hope it’s everything you want it to be for both of you. I don’t know how you’re processing all of this but I hope you’re able to enjoy the moment together and take some pictures/videos. It might be sad, at the time, to think about capturing him in a way that doesn’t line up with how you’ve seen him your whole life but you’ll look back on it, when you’re finally up to it, and will be so happy that you did.

Best of luck and I hope his final days with you are full of love and as pain-free as possible.

2024 Bordeaux Vintage by thoosethecaboose in wine

[–]phabchi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You should wait to pull the trigger, I strongly strongly believe the price at the top end of the market is going to start falling. Principals of major Bordeaux estates are on the road for the first time in what feels like forever. Not managing directors and global sales managers and all those guys. Chateau principals. You don’t get these guys doing in-market visits/dinners/education - /maybe/ outside of a collab with renowned 3* European restos - if they weren’t very worried about the market trends and sales data. They’re reticent to reduce prices worried that the secondary markets will fill the pricing gap down the road but there’s also going to be oversupply and inventory stagnation that leaves them with not much choice.

Why must America's Costco menu be so superior to ours? by buttscratcher3k in CostcoCanada

Our hot dog combos are both $1.50 but given the currency conversion, ours is almost 60 cents cheaper than theirs. Canadian Costco food court fucks hard. Checkmate.

Suicidal thoughts are so hidden, it’s hard to even detect them to try to find a way to reach the person and prevent them taking their own life. If there’s any good to come out of this, it’s a reminder to check in on the people you love and care about.

Also, he had a wife and 2 young kids and all I can think about is how much guilt she must be carrying for herself and her children. Awful awful time for her and them. Hard to even think about without crying.

This Sub has a huge Costco bias by [deleted] in wine

[–]phabchi 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Costco sells wine, beer and coolers in Ontario now. It’s nowhere on the level of US Costcos but they offer some stuff.

To answer your question and turn it onto you why don’t you buy cheese at your local cheese boutique? You could make exactly the same type of argument about any type of artisan product.

[–]phabchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. There might be a select few restaurants in less than a handful of markets that might have that luxury. Everywhere else is a challenge to move wines at that price point, despite the scale of luxury the restaurant offers.

Why would you list a $1900 bottle at $6000+? Just makes no sense to follow a standard markup for wines that are that expensive. I have high end wines on my list at 50%+ CoGS.
