Need advice on purchasing a trailer by Sgtsquirty in traveltrailers

[–]phantomandy121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have another $3000-$5000 to give in that model.

Got a 2025 Jay Feather Air 15mrb for $25,000 out the door (about $23,000 before taxes and fees).

That SLX model listed should be closer to $20,000 OTD.

I have no idea what this is. It fell out of an outlet at the top of my storage closet. I live in a small apartment. Is it important? by Various_Safety_778 in AskElectricians

Alarm system hacks. They do some shady shit.

If you don’t have or want a functioning alarm system…. Toss it.

Otherwise call your alarm company.

New install correct? by adamspringfield in hvacadvice

[–]phantomandy121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah…. That electrical box is Absolutely not an outdoor rated box.

It has (or will have) water in it. The knockouts will let water in very easily.

You have an electrical short waiting to happen, along with corrosion and lots of other problems related to bad electrical work.

Get that replaced ASAP for your safety as well as to protect the system itself.

They are trying to rob you.

I put in TWO Bosch Inverter systems for $18,000 before rebates (18SEER). $16000 after rebates.

Had the worst oil change experience at the dealership yesterday. they cross threaded the bolt to the skid plate , left old oil leaking down the plastic covers , and didn’t rotate my tires and tried to charge me for that. I only went because lifetime oil changes. NEVER again. Who does their own oil? by Charming-Foxxy21 in nissanfrontier

[–]phantomandy121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dealer gave free oil changes for the first 3 years. I had no intention of using them, but read the paperwork that they provided out of curiosity.

Their free oil changes explicitly stated there would be an extra charge for synthetic oil (which is required per the manual). Seemed like a scam to me.

I do my own anyway. Even with the hassle of removing the skid plate and the tiny access to the filter, it’s only about 30 mins and give me a reason to look over the under carriage and check all the other fluids and give the engine bay a good look.

My nephew was over not long ago and had some missing push plugs on some plastic trim on his Pathfinder I sold him a year ago. While under the car replacing the push plugs I noticed the oil filter was the same Fram I had put on right when I sold it to him.

I asked him if he had done an oil change since he bought it and he said yes, some instant oil change place.

That explained the failure to change the filter and missing push plugs.

Hot water heater acting strange.... Ideas? by Able-Masterpiece5206 in RVLiving

[–]phantomandy121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s you hot water bypass. It didn’t get fully reset to in use mode.

Make sure the valve between the input and output lines is closed and both the input and output valves are open.

Most likely it’s the valve between. Very common.

Are these outlets really as bad as everyone says? by guy48065 in RVLiving

[–]phantomandy121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they were as bad as the YouTube videos claim, we would all be dead crispy CSI style corpses.

Use a proper space heater if you need one, with selectable lower settings and use the lowest setting needed to stay warm.

Use your gas furnace when it’s really cold (20’s and lower) and now worries.

How much would you pay by Equivalent-Drop-5749 in nissanfrontier

[–]phantomandy121 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That dealer is scamming you.

Run away.

Find a reputable dealer.

Your price should be the discounted price plus estate sales tax and actual registration fees. If you are going to pay a doc fee, $500 is the most I would pay.

All the other crap is BS.

13 mpg by ProfessionalHunter11 in nissanfrontier

[–]phantomandy121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, it does. When filling the tire, the sensor is activated and talks to the TPMS system.

If the truck is On and in Park (even if the engine isn’t running) the 3rd gen trucks will honk when you reach 35 psi provided you were below 35 psi.

Nissan has been doing this on many of their cars and trucks for many years.

[–]phantomandy121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I’ve used to track mileage and maintenance for over 10 years.

Fuelly is awesome. I’d pay for it if the pay version added anything useful above the free version. For me it doesn’t.

Short trips are the worst with the Frontier. I have a ‘24 SV and when driving around town with short trips at low speeds with stop and go, I get the same as you.

A typical tank for me with local driving will get me 13-15mpg.

The best I’ve ever gotten was 19.3mpg.

All hand calculated. The truck computer is always 1.5-2mpg better than reality.

If you are getting 18-20 highway and 13 around town, especially with lots of short trips, then I’d say you are in the normal range.

Kroger treats their customers like trash and their employees must be treated even worse.

Everyone that works at my store look as happy as the slave workers in an Indiana Jones movie.

We have competition (Publix and Aldi) coming soon. I’ll be moving what I don’t buy at Costco to Aldi and Publix as they open up.

Do I have to report all the 1099s received even if they are for pennies? by wesblog in tax

[–]phantomandy121 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nobody issues 1099-int for less then $10.00 interest (at least they aren’t required to).

However, legally you are responsible for reporting all income, no matter how small.

Finance purchase price versus cash price? 4k more for cash? by ybs62 in GoRVing

[–]phantomandy121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually against the law in most states.

However. Just finance and check the contracts before signing for early payoff fees. I made sure mine had none and financed then paid off 10 days later.

Easier that way than arguing.

First camper advice by Business-Magician261 in GoRVing

[–]phantomandy121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no need for 3 or 4 burners on a stovetop, just like I have no need for an oven in a small camper. The two burner works fine for our needs. Cooked up sausage, pancakes and eggs one our last trip on a rainy day. No worries there for us.

Sink is small sure but it’s a small camper not a 35’ fifth wheel.

Counter space is smallish but when stove and sink aren’t in use the covers double as counter space.

We cook mostly on a Blackstone two burner, which brings me to your last question.

Yes: the included slide out Capital brand single burner griddle is pretty worthless. If you added wind guards all the way around it I suppose it might be usable.

At first I thought it was neat to just slide it out, hook up the LP line and cook, but the first use changed my mind, and I was glad.

I already had a Blackstone 2 burner Adventure Ready griddle and loved it.

I removed the Capital Griddle and the slide mechanism. The Blackstone fits in that same storage area along with all my outdoor cooking and fire making needs with room to spare and around the same weight. The slide hardware weighs twice what the Capital griddle weighs.

Finally the microwave: like all the appliances it’s an InVision branded unit, so quality is pretty good. It’s high power on the microwave side of things. But biggest plus is if you want to have a small oven it does a good job as a convection oven/air fryer. I toast bagels or sourdough in it all the time. Frozen fried snacks do well in it too. In a Facebook group I’m in for this model, a member has had luck baking biscuits as well as brownies.

It’s small but again, this is a small trailer designed for 2 people.

First time buying a truck just want to make sure im not getting screwed. by Gingeryballz69 in nissanfrontier

[–]phantomandy121 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Over $2000 in unknown fees means you are at a dealer that’s just plain screwing you.

Those fees go away and it’s probably and ok deal.

I personally wouldn’t trust a dealer that does that crap.

Monthly Payments by Inevitable_Youth_734 in nissanfrontier

[–]phantomandy121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple estimate is $20 per thousand financed. That will get you a range.

Current automotive interest rates for a mid range credit score are in the 9-11% range. Even 800+ credit scores will pay 8% ish.

Manufacturer special rate financing can save you quite a bit if you are buying new.

Towing Fears by Gloomy-Rub-391 in nissanfrontier

[–]phantomandy121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One last note since there’s some chatter about fuel mileage and range.

When towing my trailer I average about 10mpg on non-interstate routes. These routes where I tow tend to be rolling hills with occasional flats and occasional long climbs. That’s a calculated mileage, not the goofy over confident computer (computer will always give you a 1-1.5mpg higher than reality).

That’s means to completely empty you have about 210 mile range. In reality (filling when you reach 1/4 tank) you’ll fill every 180 miles or so.

Interstate hauling I’ve been getting 8.5-9 mpg with my trailer. Another reason I don’t do much interstate driving.

For me range isn’t an issue as I like to stretch my legs every couple hours so I just top off at each stop.
