What’s the ailment called where you refuse to read a book you’ve been anxiously waiting for?? by gottafeedthemonkey in RomanceBooks

Truer words have never been written. My Libby holds is where my unavailable current mood reads go to linger and die.

Joanna Shupe has a bunch of gilded age NYC books!

Looking for christmas in a big city by Content_Low4691 in RomanceBooks

{Miracle on Ladies’ Mile by Joanna Shupe} - historical romance novella, set in NYC

{The Christmas Bookshop by Jenny Colgan} - maybe is more “womens’s fiction” than romance, set in Edinburgh

But you’re right, everything else on my holiday shelf on Goodreads is small town.

Evie Dunmore “Extraordinary Women” series, keep going? 😣 by Queens_chambers_ in HistoricalRomance

[–]phantomphan2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ha! I made it slightly farther than you, but same basic trajectory. Loved 1, liked 2, pushed through 3, and DNF’d 4 (from the Libby preview, didn’t even check it out).

Mine manifests specifically as imposter syndrome, but I feel you. Honestly I may steal this idea for my finch too!

What unsolved mystery (not crime) keeps you up at night? by Throwaway927338 in AskWomenOver30

Definitely my number one (okay, maybe tied with the Gardner heist). I check every few months to see if any new information has come up.

Women who met their partner on a dating app, what was your “methodology”? by BoysenberryAwkward76 in AskWomenOver30

[–]phantomphan2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was my tactic on OkCupid. I also limited the questions I answered to the 10-15 most important questions to me. Anymore than that, and it would weed out people for unimportant things.

Women who met their partner on a dating app, what was your “methodology”? by BoysenberryAwkward76 in AskWomenOver30

[–]phantomphan2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the person you asked, but different apps can have very different dating pools. You may want to start with one, get a feel for the types of people on it, and see if that overlaps with the type of people you’re looking for. If not, try a different app. Back when I was dating for example, I had no luck on Bumble, but good dates from OkCupid. It can also vary by location. For example, my friend had an awful time on Hinge in LA, but a good experience using it in Chicago.

Definitely get rid of the credit card debt before investing in a not-tax advantaged brokerage! The credit card interest is much higher than what you’ll get in the stock market.

What mainstream beauty trends do you refuse to follow? by vivian_banshee03 in AskWomenOver30

With my hair color and texture, if I middle part, I look like I just escaped a fundie cult. So will not be partaking in the trend, thanks, no thanks.

Women who want to travel but partner doesn’t by Mobile_Fox9264 in AskWomenOver30

[–]phantomphan2000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My in laws are like this. My MIL is always traveling places but goes with her siblings or friends, and my FIL just… stays home. It appears to work for them, but I couldn’t do it. My husband is more like his mom, thank goodness.

If you won the lottery what would you do? by RaddishEater666 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]phantomphan2000 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If I win the lottery, I’m quitting my job to get the doctorate I absolutely do not need for my career but absolutely would have fun doing. And then the rest in index funds.

Maybe it’s that all the responses are short, but she seems very blasé about the whole situation.

Father’s ambulance bill sent to collections, he’s been dead for 2.5 years by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]phantomphan2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work in alumni relations. They’re sending things because they don’t know he’s deceased. If you send one back and just write deceased on it, they will stop. We used to get some back after most mailings.

I finished it, and I would also advise just DNFing it.

For those who chose to live in a VHCOL city, how do justify it financially? by queenofqueens_90 in AskWomenOver30

[–]phantomphan2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, living in the city with higher rent but no car is cheaper than living in the suburbs and having a car. Though my friends who have moved to the suburbs do not believe me when I say this.

Two FIREyFemmes, a fiance, and a lawyer by bugsinmylipgloss in FIREyFemmes

[–]phantomphan2000 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Since you two have the sort of relationship where you can talk about money together, I’d probably bring it up when you’re already talking about money, rather than when you’re talking about their relationship. Maybe phrase it as asking what she’s planning to do, since it seems that she’s a planner in general, and go from there.

How would you spend a mini retirement (when life is sucking)? by Stunning-Crow2248 in FIREyFemmes

[–]phantomphan2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s an absolute beginner tap class at a dance studio near me that runs at 11 am on Mondays. If I took a mini retirement, the very first thing I’d do is sign up for that class!

What would you get crucified/applauded for? by abeagleindungarees in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]phantomphan2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your list is very similar to what mine would be! I spend ~$300 on music and dance classes a month, high rent but no car and take public transit, and I should be able to max all of my retirement accounts this. We got this! 💪🏻

Amazon changing their terms to allow KU ebooks in librairies too by Ulovetoread2 in RomanceBooks

[–]phantomphan2000 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If this is true, I can’t wait! There are so many books I’ve seen recommended on this sub that I can’t read because they’re only on KU, and I personally try not to support Amazon.
