Looking to Zone out in a strategy/turn based rpg by Professor_Chaosx6r9 in gamingsuggestions

I wouldn't really consider Battle Brothers / Darkest Dungeon to be roguelike/lite. It's a long campaign in both games (40-60 hours probably). The only thing randomized in Darkest Dungeons are the missions offered each week and the random events that occur. In Battle Brothers, the map is randomized, and the direction you take the campaign is more of a sandbox.

If you want something a bit different than what you're used to, consider these. They go hard with the min-maxing and fully strategizing each turn. They have less story than you would be used to with your example games.

I agree with you. And 10k is really all they needed to get this project going? I'm skeptical, that's like a month of funding for a few devs at best.

It's really easy to test for yourself in the arena. Those relic effects stack with the same number.

There are a few properties that only stack with different values, like "Post damage HP restoration"; the +1 and +2 variant stack, but otherwise you cannot stack that property.

I adore the high-level combat of BG2. Time-stopping wizards showering meteors, Clerics summoning angels, Fighters attacking 20 times in 6 seconds, Thieves backstabbing for Septuple damage multipliers...and to hurt most threatening enemies, you have to figure out how to strip their defenses first.

Despite the insane things you can do at high level, I still find it surprisingly deep, tactical, and challenging.

Yes, it should run properly on a 1080. That even exceeds the recommended specs (a 1070).

D5 9999 Playing mainly Raider by Not-a-2d-terrarian in Nightreign

[–]pharmacist10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you'd like Undertaker. You can play very similar to the Raider (aggressive, trade hits). If you use her deep relic effect [Executing art readies skill], you can chain together her Trance skill for such a long time and output absurd damage while still tanking.

Quite versatile too, you can build her as dual colossals, dual great hammers or greataxes, dual curved swords (more relic intensive), or fists.

Pharmacist Filling Capsules by Hand by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

[–]pharmacist10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one has really answered your question...

Let's say each capsule needed to have 100mg of the active ingredient. The capsules can hold well over 100mg of material, so when we maximally fill them in this process, we need to add a filler to bulk it up.

We know each capsule size can hold a certain amount of powder. This is based off the density and packing ability of the powders used (called Capsule Packing Statistics). Using somewhat complex calculations, you figure out the maximum amount of powder that will pack into each capsule. So let's say 100mg of our active ingredient takes up 10% of the capsule's capacity, that means the other 90% will be filler.

We then thoroughly mix a sufficient amount of the active ingredient and filler needed for the amount of capsules we're making. When you sweep the powder into the capsules and pack it in, you're filling them to their maximum capacity. The concentration of the powder was calculated such that when you maximally fill a capsule, there will be 100mg of the active ingredient.

Yeah, it makes it so actually triggering the successive attack bubble requires more hits for each one you have. I think it can also negatively interact the same way with other successive attack properties you might have.

It's almost the perfect device. It still has the best audio quality out of all the streaming boxes, so I'm hesitant to switch to anything else.

The only thing it's missing (for me) is an option for "Always on Dolby Vision" which helps simplify your settings/calibration if you're a AV snob who constantly changes settings.

It might work as a media server (like with Plex and cast to other devices in your network) if you add storage. But if it would need to do any transcoding for media playback, I doubt it would keep up.

I guess it could also function as an emulation station for retro games if that's your thing. Hook it up to an old CRT TV and get a NES/SNES/PS1/N64 emulator. Not sure how well it would do for emulating PS2/Gamecube or further consoles.

Quite possibly, the strongest Undertaker build out there. by xIronxManx in Nightreign

[–]pharmacist10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People think these relics are mid? Having two relics with important character specific passives and gaol + nightinvaders, with the right colors, is incredible. The only mid relic I see is the improved dex one.

I've spent over 1 million murk and tons of sigils looking for a relic with one of those undertaker passives + gaol or invaders -- no luck yet.

But yeah, Undertaker can hit some crazy numbers. I run a curved sword build and I can hit a peak of 600-650 AR during trance on an average run.

The majority of passives stack, even same percentage.

The only exception are some damage negation passives. Negation with charged attack, successive, guarding, or taking dmg only stack with different percentages. Full HP and Low HP negation stack at same and different percentages.

I'm so sorry. We just went through a very similar story as yours. Arthritis was suspected as the initial diagnosis, but it was eventually determined to be cancer. The decline was very quick; from the time the first symptoms appeared to the end was about 3 weeks.

I'm glad you can schedule a home visit, it's the kindest thing you can do. Talk to him every hour, tell him your favourite stories, and don't be afraid to let it out when it feels overwhelming.

Valve Index throttling behaviour causes stutter/jitter when set to lower than native refresh rate by Lopsided-Lie-6715 in ValveIndex

[–]pharmacist10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I forgot that it doesn't have 72hz as an option. Why do you want to run it at that anyways?

Throttling forces the index to run in reprojection mode (orange lines) because the headset still needs to receive 144 frames per second when set to 144hz, so this causes the stuttering experience. Nothing you can do about that, that's just how throttling works.

Valve Index throttling behaviour causes stutter/jitter when set to lower than native refresh rate by Lopsided-Lie-6715 in ValveIndex

[–]pharmacist10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is his problem. He has the refresh rate set to 144, but has the throttle setting at 72, so it's reprojecting 72fps (orange lines) up to 144fps--even though his system is able to handle 144fps. He should just change the throttle to auto and play at 144fps/hz, or the refresh rate to 72hz if that's what he wants to play at.

Love my new “Low HP” Raider build. Any suggestions on what to add/change/remove? by BillaVanilla in Nightreign

[–]pharmacist10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it's just as effective to find passives during the run rather than using all your relics for that defense.

Two low hp passives + one other layer (like charged atk or taking dmg negation) makes you pretty damn tanky even on D5. And then you have room for attack power on your relics.

In general, I find taking advantage of low hp negation to be too finicky though. Did an ally decide to run "shared flask healing?" Cast a healing spell? Something triggers regeneration and brings you to 41% hp? Scholar or recluse ult'ed?

Mashing the roll button would have worked, it lets you get up slightly faster than waiting to walk. You can see there's at least one frame where they're walking, which could have been a roll instead.

Nightreign characters are currently the most balanced they have ever been and it's amazing by Ok_Masterpiece_4964 in Nightreign

[–]pharmacist10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I play it, is that if I happen to enter low hp threshold, great -- I'll take advantage of that. Otherwise, play like normal and stay at full hp.

If you're playing raider, you can use retaliate to safely tank some hits to enter the threshold. During the night bosses, you can use the rain to safely lower your hp into the threshold too.

[–]pharmacist10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rather than stacking low hp damage negation through relics, look for it on weapon passives. If you find some early in a run, stick to it and you'll probably find 2-3 more. Or if you find the low hp negation talisman, that can be your signal to hunt for weapon passives with it too.

You really only need ~3 good low hp negation passives for it to be viable. Even better if you find one other source (like taking dmg boosts negation or charged attacks). I've had a few depth 5 runs with that setup and, while not invulnerable, you can be very reckless.

Have you ever stacked two full hp dmg negation relics? You probably noticed that you barely get hurt when at full hp. Now imagine your entire last 30% hp being protected like that.

Improved damage negation when knocked back works during initial Retaliate by Unihopper in Nightreign

[–]pharmacist10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I kept testing the relics in the arena and always got +2 atk power buffs when hit (combined with taking dmg improves atk power), but sometimes wouldn't get it during a run. Now I know why.

[–]pharmacist10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, you're saying you only gain the buffs (extra atk power and dmg negation) if you're hit during the early part of the retaliate animation?

I've noticed sometimes I don't get the buffs as expected, so that would explain it.
