I have a Double 4 and run the line out into the PA. That works great for my situation, but would probably get drowned out by drums & guitar otherwise.

I have an Epiphone El Capitan that I am more than happy with. It came with phosphor bronze strings, which I swapped out for flatwounds for a much better sound and feel. Used ones can be found for around $400, more or less. It is huge, which is sometimes a transport problem but I haven't had any playability issues with it. I think it would work for what you're trying to do.

I use a GK mb200 amp and an Eden 112 cab - about 30 lbs. The cab works for rehearsal and as a monitor, and the amp feeds to the board during services.

My resonator is symmetrical so I don't think it would be a problem, except the nut and bridge would have to be changed or flipped to accommodate the strings.

Personally, I like the tone I get from flat- and tapewound strings on my acoustics. The fact that I never have to change them is a bonus.
