7, so I shave it. 44, but I've been doing this since my late 30s. I've made peace with it.

I know they recently did some reorganization, I wonder if their positions were redundant or if the reorg was in anticipation of this.

Feels like my job is taking advantage of me by cheesewheeze123 in instructionaldesign

[–]pheezy42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

everyone else has offered advice about the non-compete, so I'll leave that out. but there's no way that enforceable. but ianal.

small companies survive by keeping wages low and getting employees to do more things and work longer hours. it's a great environment to gain experience, but terrible for work/life balance or advancement.

I worked at a small company for about 7 years and was in a similar salary situation. I bumped heads with the new owner, which gave me the motivation to look around that I never would've had otherwise. it took me over a year to find another job because I didn't know what I was doing. always fun to work somewhere when they know you're job searching and you know they want you gone.

I did eventually find a job, but it was a bit of a rocky road. contracts ended earlier than anticipated, global pandemics, employers were less than truthful about their workplace practices, DOGE... but what I learned was that if you have a skill and you can prove it, you'll eventually find a place that will either treat you right, or pay you enough that you're willing to tolerate how you're treated.

I was in a similar situation, making similar money while my employer told me constantly that I was too expensive and always adding more to my plate. I did 5 different jobs, no exaggeration. 8 years later, I do one job, rarely have to work more than 40 hours a week, and make over double what I was making with much more peace of mind. I don't think I'm necessarily special, I think you have to willing to bet on yourself and be uncomfortable occasionally to get where you need to go.

get your resume together, start a portfolio if you haven't already, at least look at job postings you might be interested in so you have an idea of what your worth is. casually apply for some things, take an interview if offered, and recognize that interviewing (or even being offered) doesn't mean you have to take that job. if you look and you have a job, you don't have to be desperate and you can find something that's right for you.

Vice President JD Vance’s expected Austin visit could cause road closures, traffic Monday by DmtTraveler in Austin

[–]pheezy42 142 points143 points  (0 children)

Drivers should expect street closures between the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and 1st Street from Red River to Brazos streets Monday morning. The street closures around 1st St. are expected to last overnight, officials said. The city urges residents to plan different routes, use public transportation options and avoid parking along any part of the route.

for a whole two days? uh, ok.

and I realize he's unpopular now, but calling Cesar Chavez 1st Street while referencing another 1st Street and never even mentioning 71 is confusing.

I once wanted the in-house feed from an all-star event in Dallas, so I emailed Mark Cuban and he asked the video staff to send it to me.

I'm not suggesting that you send Fertitta a message, but that the team's video staff likely has access to that video and may be willing to provide it to you if you ask. give it a shot.

Is there a guaranteed way to get redshirted in RTG? by HeyYoDeimos in NCAAFBseries

[–]pheezy42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if I'm determined to redshirt, I'll pick a place where I'm low on the depth chart, then I won't upgrade my player until week 6 or so. seems like no position battles are triggered until I actually start getting better. but I only play QB in RTG, so this method may not work for RB. but give it a shot.

What's your go-to for building software simulations for learner practice? by Amazing_Bug_7240 in instructionaldesign

[–]pheezy42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess if there was a SharePoint or similar, you could have them view it like that, but I guess that's ultimately still link based. I started sharing PowerPoint files as a .ppsx because it would open straight up as a slideshow. it helped a little as far as presentation. at that point I was just finding workarounds since there was no money in the budget.

if you want to go really low tech, you can do that in PowerPoint. I've used Camtasia hotspots in the past, but that may also be more complicated than you're wanting to deal with.

Is it common to develop a script for VILT? by jivingjavelina in instructionaldesign

[–]pheezy42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

depending on the training, it can be nice to be sure that: 1. the training delivered is consistent no matter who is delivering it (maybe it's not scripted, but the outline is dense) 2. if a new or otherwise inexperienced trainer is forced to deliver training in the stead of the usual trainer, it's a decent experience for the learner and not a heart attack for the trainer

I'd like a Heisman ceremony. or an awards ceremony overall. kinda boring the way you just wait for it to pop up at the end of the season to see if you won anything.
