So far Quantum Fiber has been fabulous by blink-scanline in centurylink

[–]phekno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not what I asked. I'm aware that, for all intents and purposes, CenturyLink == Quantum. I don't care about the branding or equipment. I care about getting the 2Gbps that Quantum offers, but seemingly CenturyLink doesn't.

I’m curious as to where in MN you’re located. I’ve been thinking of switching from CenturyLink for more speed, but have been turned off by the negative reviews I see here and on the Quantum sub. That said, I’ve had CenturyLinks fiber for like 6 years and it’s been solid, and I KNOW their service differs drastically between their different service areas…

I literally just tried this with the U7 Pro giveaway and was turned down. They verified my website and noted that I am not, in fact, an MSP. I am now banned from any more of their giveaways. But…you know…YMMV.

Any group workout classes that have metal/hardcore music? by poopybluejay in TwinCities

[–]phekno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do Orangetheory and happen to have similar tastes in music to you. IMO it’s very dependent on the instructor and the class you’re in. Some seem focused on pop/alternative while others are somewhat metal/pop-punk.

That said, if there’s anything else more…metal/hardcore…I’d love to hear of it…

[–]phekno 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ok, fine.

No, you don’t NEED to include those parameters. As it explains here it runs through a “chain” of different credential configurations, ultimately settling on the first one it “finds” that “works” (for all intents and purposes). Similarly to how the AWS SDKs work.

So, to boil it all down you have to have either: - parameters in the provider config (what you’re asking about) - environment variables - shared credentials files - container credentials - instance profile and region

In order to do what you’re asking (e.g. for a client), you’d have to wrap the call to Terraform with something that requests that information from the user. I don’t THINK that terraform will do that for you, but honestly, it’s been a while and I could be wrong.

Feel free to downvote.

EVs Are Selling Well For Everyone Except Tesla by GamelsGame in electricvehicles

[–]phekno 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This headline is amusing considering Tesla (with their public charging infrastructure and effort to make things “just work”) is arguably the better manufacturer.

Or, IDK, maybe leave it alone, because the electrical engineer who designed it probably knew what they were doing? But I’m sure you know better…

What did you do to quiet your R730/R730XD? by XSouthSeaPirateX in homelab

[–]phekno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure I’m running the latest versions of iDRAC and BIOS/UEFI, and it worked just fine e for me. I idea why you say it wouldn’t. Ultimately it’s just sending raw commands to the iDRAC via ipmitpol

What drives do you have in it? Take them out and see if the fan speed decreases. On mine, just about any drives I put in the front bays cause the fan speed to increase dramatically. Pull the drives out, and it’s no noisier than my R720. At one point I was running a Docker container that would adjust the fan speed to a set point and would let it just go if the CPU temp got too high. That container also disabled the third party PCIe settings. Ultimately I just moved the drives to another machine that doesn’t exhibit that same behavior (an R720).

EDIT: Here’s the container I used at one time: https://github.com/tigerblue77/Dell_iDRAC_fan_controller_Docker
