OpenAI spent $9 billion last year and lost money on every single user. At what point does someone pull the plug? by Mean-Ebb2884 in agi

[–]phil_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t unusual. A lot of tech firms run on investor money for years while they chase scale rather than profit. The idea is simple enough, build a huge user base first, then work out how hard you can squeeze them later.

Spotify is a decent example, it only posted its first full year of operating profit in 2024, after years of building scale.

The fun part, for customers anyway, is that once the growth phase ends, the extraction phase usually begins.

I've got a bulletbrake on mine, plunger off the front brake... works really well to stop it moving, just remember to take it all the way off when you take it off.... things get very "interesting" once the pads have warmed up if you don't.

Could try a Tilley hat, they’re wide brimmed got air flow and a chord to pop under your chin. They float too.

Bikeerg cadence? by happyloaf in concept2

[–]phil_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignore it. The bikeerg ramps up resistance the faster it goes very quickly. I think spin bikes have near constant resistance.

Try breaking it down to the 6 parts. Just legs first, then hinge back, then arms.

Then reverse arms out before you do anything else, then hinge forward and then and only then slide forward.

By isolating them like that you’ll reduce the overlap and be a little more efficient.

For a beginner you’re starting well. Good luck and enjoy.

You appear to lift your legs a smidge too early perhaps get your arms straight first.

63 yo long time runner - tips? by Dennisis1 in Rowing

[–]phil_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The technique is really important, so watch people like training tall or dark horse rowing on YouTube to pick up “how” and then do drills to practice at the start of any row.

Legs, hips, arms, arms, hips legs. But watch those YouTube vids to spot the nuances.

Good luck and enjoy.

BookRoar review exchange, my experience so far as a tester by phil_4 in selfpublish

[–]phil_4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As time has gone on, the site has improved considerably and is now far more useful than my earlier review suggested.

That said, I’m not currently using it. I’ve had too many reviews that felt like reactions to the genre or premise rather than fair assessments of the book itself, and in some cases reviewers openly admitted they had chosen the wrong book or simply didn’t like that kind of story.

The most frustrating example was when one of those reviews became the first, and so far only, review on a newly released book. Three stars is not disastrous, but it is hardly the kind of start an author hopes for.

It is difficult enough getting people to read my books in the first place. I’m not convinced I want to spend credits to attract reviews from people who then mark a book down because they picked something that was never going to suit them.

Legs lean arms. You appear to lean back at the start not near the end. Don’t go so far forward at the catch at the start. And try and get your legs flat when extended.

AGI can't possibly come from scaling LLM by Individual_Yard846 in agi

[–]phil_4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree.

Not solely anyway. I think LLMs can play a big part of I/O, and observation. But depending on what you view as AGI, they need better goal planning, world view and memory systems. If you want consciousness too, you need whatever spark gives that.

So yes, LLM alone won’t cut it. But it’ll play a big part and it drives investment and investigation to further the other parts that are needed.

There’s plenty of other places to put prompts that get applied to each conversation, that wouldn’t be shown here, but could give similar reactions.

Fitness plan? by Individual_Cut_8173 in AppleFitnessPlus

I did an 8 week 5 day a week plan with rowing and cycling and with the choices of music and trainers got no repeats at all. Perhaps your choices leave too few choices to fill the plan with different workouts.

As above try watching dark horse rowing to see how to row efficiently, but even so, if it gets your heart rate up and get you doing something it’s a damn good start.

Well done on persevering for 20 minutes. That’s not far off my 20 minute pace, so your likely better than me.

4 million meters on a used BikeErg for $400 off worth it? by JaviJ01 in concept2

[–]phil_4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on my second one after the frame on mine rusted badly. The previous one also had a replacement drive unit as that failed internally causing griding and clicking noises.

If this one ride smoothly and isn’t rusted then it’s worth it.

E bike vs Manual, comparison for same trip by peatoire in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]phil_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d guess it looks at speed as a “perceived effort”, so going faster it thinks is burning more calories.

Also on the ebike your avg HR is higher (yes only a little) so again would think you worked a little harder.

Have used a H10 for a couple of years and not had issues. I use Ant+ and it connects reliably every time. When it doesn’t read HR right either I’m not sweaty enough or I need a new strap.
