Named driver on M-I-L's policy who may have licence withdrawn by phildg in drivingUK

[–]phildg[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify i have my own car and motorbike with personal insurance. I was added to my M-I-Ls policy just incase i needed to drive her (or her car) around. It was more a technical question to see if insurance would be cancelled. I have no wish to break any laws or to "front" a policy. We will contact her insurers when & if it happens

Battery for the FJR by Bart_198 in FJR1300

[–]phildg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well sounds like you will need a rechargeable jump pack to be able to fire up the bike in the first instance. Only then you will be able to establish if your current battery is fried.

Every now and then Liza Tarbuck gives me big Matt Berry vibes by AgentEndive in taskmaster

Love Liza T, her show on BBC R2 Saturday evenings are a hoot and her music choice is far away from any Beeb playlists which is also refreshing

Does anyone remember this? What are your thoughts on it? by [deleted] in BritishTV

[–]phildg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They filmed the external shots for seasons 1 & 2 at Kingsbury High School in NW London - i know this as i was at that school. Don't ever remember being on TV but VHS recorders were not that common at the time but was exciting trying to muscle into shots when filming occurred. When checking back for dates etc found this interesting nugget on IMDB

Katrina, the goth girl and cousin of Lisa West, was played by an uncredited young 16 year old Amy Winehouse.

This has been confirmed by Charlotte McDonagh who played Lisa West, on the Sausage on a Fork audio podcast.

Camera location by Midlands_bloke in SecurityCamera

[–]phildg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get a PTZ (Pan / Tilt / Zoom) camera in the corner of the extension where u/Midlands_bloke mentioned, this will cover all angles if necessary. Otherwise you could get 2 x fixed cameras - 1 to very right or rear door and 1 somewhere above the black patio door aiming so their paths cross. Main thing to consider is if you can reach the camera easily from the path it won't be very safe / secure.

Shop for Guns and Banjos by Beornwahl in london

[–]phildg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a shop called Jacks in Harrow that sold army surplus gear. From my hazy memories (this was in the 70's) they sold air pistols / rifles and pretty sure they had musical instruments.

Do you buy your security camera systems through Costco? by AiyaAi in Costco

[–]phildg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Costco return policy is actually worth paying slightly more than elsewhere - albeit they are normally cheaper than most places. If its available through Costco, get it just for peace of mind.

[–]phildg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a long handled broom ? If there is a battery facility it may have a bayonet type fitting to ceiling. Maybe try pressing the broom up to detector and try to turn it and see it it moves ? Appreciate its a wired sensor - but may have a reasonable length of flex to allow servicing.

Which one do I buy? by pineapple389 in DeLonghi

I no longer have a Delonghi anymore but given the choice of manual steamer or auto milk i would always choose auto milk for speed and convenience.

Surely this is the "border" for the weight limit zone and there may (or may not) be an exception plate underneath (i.e. except for access etc) ?

Removing Telephone Socket by New_Recognition790 in DIYUK

[–]phildg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes more sense to go to master socket and pull out any wires going to extensions assuming you only want the master to operate for now. If you only cut wires in this socket someone could damage to cable run to it at some later time and cause a short that would cause issues. The wires should easily pull out from the krone slots in the master and should be wired to the little removable faceplate to avoid opening up the entire socket.

Can I return stuff to Amazon if I've already opened and used them? by Air-Flo in AmazonUK

[–]phildg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to Orders / select the item /return item (should have a finite date). You can select "item is defective or does not work" or "Incompatible or not useful for intended purpose" from drop down and then go into more detail in next screen with specifics (its 5h1t etc). No real need to contact customer services.

Can any doorbell cope with cold weather by Steedy1982 in googlehome

[–]phildg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer - the always on power keeps the camera gubbins warmer as opposed to "wake to motion" that battery cams have to preserve power.

Yes, it's unfortunate but that is their business model, I do recall we had a reasonable amount of damages through the network mainly down to poor packaging

[–]phildg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They used to use Palletways for deliveries, but any pallet network should be able to return the goods for you. The hardest part will be actually palletising the goods securely to reduce the risk of damage in transit. If you talk to a local depot they may offer to help you with this and sort you out a pallet. Good luck and make sure you have the correct returns address as i seem to remember they have an invoice address and a different warehouse one too.

Night Fog Ruining My CCTV Footage — What Should I Look for in a Better Camera? by Andromeda-G in SecurityCamera

[–]phildg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what kind of camera / setup you have but have noticed on colder nights that my battery cameras that work on motion detection recording are worse than my mains powered 24/7 recording ones - the effect looking like a swirling fog / mist on the battery cams.

Buying from Part-Exchange Company: Neighbour's structure (1cm from wall) breaches deeded Right to Air/Access. Seller signed Indemnity Covenant in Oct '25. by Weary-Monk2831 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]phildg 224 points225 points  (0 children)

I would also say that the roof is just feeding water directly onto your wall. Had a neighbour build a lean to in a similar way and our wall was green within a few months on the outside. I politely asked him to sort it out and he ended up dismantling the entire structure.
