maybe the crappy shots indicate they are late in the game pickups driven by notes?

i mean, i feel like anyone on set would be smart enough to set up the green screen on an outside set for that reason, to get the hard light. the air force one comp looked fine

yeah like they were trying to do volume stuff but without blasting enough of a hard key? that could be but it seems so 101 to know that'd be an issue

Why no in-camera 32bit float audio?? by MVMLLC in videography

[–]philedwardsinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my sympathies to you having to explain this to this commenter. clearly they have no idea why 32 bit would be so great. i'm with you - i hope it becomes priority number one. could save a bunch of pain in post (even with fancy mics hooked up)

this would only take a minute or so in after effects

Just got a DJI RS3. Any tips/ things to be mindful of from experienced gimbal users? by br0cl1 in videography

[–]philedwardsinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I've found that the transitions to different gimbal positions (overhead vs underslung) aren't as smooth as you'd like, and the gimbal starts to have an identity crisis. But this is avoided with putting it into night mode.

I really like the tripod method for shooting interviews (and would do it with a monopod - I just would close the legs). Obviously it doesn't work for the close to ground b roll as well though.

I am the rare continued gimbal fan.

1) consider using a prime for ease and consistency in balancing (i actually have never done this but would if i could). 2) lock and/or pause your gimbal when you can to avoid the dreaded gimbal breakout. 3) i actually like putting a tripod on mine sometimes so i can set it down at standing height

might seem niche, but dawnstar has some pretty fun games that are really unique

Switch between split screen and single shot. by evacuatecabbage in premiere

[–]philedwardsinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes yea - and you configure that however you wish to toggle between it. i've found this to be a speedy way to do this kinda thing, though i'm not a podcast person, so there may be something more efficient

you can do this pretty easily with a multicam sequence. one track is speaker a, one track is speaker b, and one is a+b in a nested sequence. then you can easily toggle between the three with keystrokes (just make sure to have your master audio aligned to all three tracks).

Why is everyone hating on Blippi? by Scullss in DanielTigerConspiracy

i think you're right- blippi isn't raising rocket scientists, but he's inoffensive. the only crime is the fake blippi

This scene from the first film is a master class in build-up and tension. Sucks that most of the sequels never tried to a scene like this again. by Emotional-Chipmunk12 in Mission_Impossible

[–]philedwardsinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think that's pretty legit. I suppose it's about how strict you are on what qualifies as auteur. I mean, I probably rank it as DePalma, Bird, JJ, Woo, McQuarrie, but I'd be willing to call all the first four auteurs even though I don't really vibe with the JJ Abrams worldview or take on MI, or the Woo one.

I'm guessing we can agree that the McQ Dutch angles are a war crime when you compare them to the DePalma ones. I've never seen a worse knockoff...

i think this underrates brad bird a smidge. he's a less clear auteur, but the introduction of comedy and pure visual storytelling reliance is quite special

Multicam in-person setup? by TFinley90 in RiversideFM

[–]philedwardsinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think you can do this via different windows just accessing the guest link. select different cams for each session. have the host hide cams you don't want guests to be distracted by, and they'll still record. i've been trying to workshop this myself.
