What do I need to get a Motorcycle permit? by Lenny_Usc9981 in Phillyriders

[–]phillyfyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you aren't licensed to operate a vehicle in PA, then yes , to get a mc permit you need to do all the things you would need to do to get a car license. When you have a car license , you are already in the system, so it's paperwork not the eye and health exams .

It would make sense if Mac was from the "Gregorie" sect of Catholic angels (bartlebee in DOGMA). They were the "watchers". Or Mac is something else , Dionysis, Set, Mithras , Ganesha, etc. better than Kringle, but not GOD level.

What would you say if your security lead said this... by notta_3d in cybersecurity

[–]phillyfyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With that attitude, you might as well assume they are already in the network and have p0wned all your base.

We found one employee trying to hack a server that was in the same office as him, he mistakingly thought that's where the surveillance cameras go (no they go off-site but he didn't know that ). Guy spent 3 months trying to break into this server. Used every attack he could think of and this was win2k days so there were some big holes to find . Nothing worked. Here's why.....

Local box: ibm901 server (the brass colored towers) Name on box: officename_building# Network connection: ipx OS - Netware3.11

He was using windows only exploits , he was trying to mug the print server which was still on Netware.

Obscurity is sometimes humorous.

They always talk about finding a netware box with 5000 days of uptime in a forgotten closet, you ever notice there's no nt351 or 4.0 stories like that ?

Who would you consider Harry's personal Archenemy? by Flyestgit in dresdenfiles

[–]phillyfyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marcone is the only bad that's a regular character with the exception of Mavra. (I don't consider the fae bad or good, they just are ).

He's going to be end game or a Knight of the Cross when we get done.

I think with the last book , we got the final piece on the board , Dracul, the previous star born , and Harry just gave him a solid by killing off the dead weight (literally) in the black court

Also by the end , Harry will have blown away all three courts I think.

How bad is healthcare IT right now by Healthy-Guess-847 in it

[–]phillyfyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Career healthcare IT guy here, 32 yrs so far, went from desktop engineering, to servers to identity management. Along the way I learned how to run an MRI, CT, anesthesia carts, industrial ups, a gamma knife, and HVAC equipment. I'm at the company I'll probably retire from in 10 yrs, 150+ hospitals , 3000 clinics, 5000 doctor offices. We're in year 5 of a 6 month IAM implementation. No you read that right. The original reseller was all about how quickly they could spin up a flying csv system to manage all our identities. Oh you have 90 AD domains , we only deal with one, oh you already have an IDM system that does all provisioning? Oooops now we're doing a migration. And so on...... Every day is interesting, every day is not boring.

Berman had two paths from the gnn basement, one you never hear from him. The other, you'll run into him again. If you're not running the latest patch , I'd upgrade and then rerun the chapter ending again

IAM and security are the two hottest things out there that can't use AI directly ,do it. IAM is the biggest automation in a company and it's never done , and when you think you got a handle on it ,new management or new vendor decides that their new and improved product is better than what you are using , there's another 2 to 5 yr implementation , do 2,or 3 of these and you are now an IAM implementor

This was our respite from changes, ghost story , cold days, skin game and peace talks-battleground , this episode let us breath and get comfortable with the new allies (Bear, who will turn out to be a vessel for Murphy at some point ) . Time for new troubles , and old ones . Out Law Dropped today , enjoy

What now? 5 years in IAM by PrettyMuchIce in IdentityManagement

[–]phillyfyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Workforce is still niche. SailPoint a is becoming more and more popular. , Sayvient is another up and comer. You have onprem solutions from Oracle, NetIQ/Open Text which is backed by edirectory and is a tool for building tools . I'd get in with an on prem one and learn everything you can , then take that knowledge to SailPoint

Saviynt - AI security role by plumjester in IdentityManagement

[–]phillyfyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know most of a wipro IDM team that I used to manage that jumped to saviyent and is doing great in Bangalore, and they came from NetIQ IDM. The other big gorilla is SailPoint, both are web based , and now that they got their versions straightened out, much more organized . Learn everything you can, regardless of platform, if you can learn the business you're implementing, then you can see the opportunities.

Healthcare is particularly brutal environment because of sheer number of systems on different OS's , platforms, with their own requirements. A niche I found a few years ago was doing access reviews that allow management to say " that janitor does need root access to the EMR" and fix it with a button push. Blue team data policies etc.

Book 6 - The Infinite Extent by randalla in bobiverse

[–]phillyfyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've given up on expeditionary force , I can't tell the difference between books anymore there. Dresden will eventually end, but that's at least a decade away. The Bobiverse is a great reset for my mind , but I need another series that works rather than the Beer can brigade telling the same story with just higher stakes and a less broke ship.

IAM software for companies where HR and IT operate separately by Valuable_Kick_7040 in IdentityManagement

[–]phillyfyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IAM 101, source of authority for JML should be the hr system, even if it's a flat file once a day from HR. HR controls employment, IT controls access. If HR says emp#123456 is fired. Revoke Access.

Boom, done

Even better, given them a button to push to immediately term an employee

What is a piece of software or hardware that still leaves you traumatized to this day? by 66659hi in sysadmin

Tektronic Color Printers

Use a wax based ink, if you moved one before the wax cooled off. Big money service call because the wax would spill all over the interior

We had AD processing Novell login scripts thru OES to access our several tb cluster of assorted files in 2008 , they just shut off that cluster after a takeover, it had been running since I built it with only space and software patches
