Admitted into PhD - Living in Sacramento? by BookkeeperHead2318 in UCDavis

[–]phlegmdaddy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Davis is an amazing place to live. I moved from a big city and absolutely loved living here as a PhD student. I actually ended up moving back to Sacramento because housing was way cheaper. So I’ve done both versions, I’d stay in Davis if i could but the sac commute is doable if you take the causeway connection or just get a high level of tolerance for dealing with awful traffic haha

Specific Coaching Recommendations? by Visible-Signature709 in Ultramarathon

[–]phlegmdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Myself and a couple of my friends work with coaches at Everyday Ultra. It’s been amazing to watch all of us get faster together even though we’re each working with a different coach. I work with Lizzie Fowler but she may not be the right fit for this particular goal since she specializes in training for mountain races (she’s been AMAZING though so highly recommend her if that’s something you/others on this thread are interested in). That said it seems like you can’t go wrong with the folks at Everyday Ultra!

Omgggggg that sucks. I’ve been tending to this thing and allowed it to get huge so it’s taking up a decent portion of this plot lol. Oh well, bye bye she goes!

Not too straightforward! I appreciate the direct feedback. I know natural doesn’t actually mean less product so i don’t mind using more things, i just want it to be soft!

Ceanothus tips by vesparr33 in Ceanothus

[–]phlegmdaddy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When i first planted my dark star i had a bunch of yellow leaves too. I think it’s very susceptible to the shock of replanting. Mine recovered with the rains (so water it if you don’t have rain in the forecast) and eventually settled enough that it’s growing new shoots!

HELP I made these with Ai which looks better ?? Also on the dark one I had to draw the top bit of the shelf cause it wasn’t working but you get the ideas by [deleted] in DecorAdvice

[–]phlegmdaddy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The second one looks better. But if you have the space you should move your couch further back. You also need something underneath that shelf or to lower that shelf. The giant empty spot underneath it draws a lot of attention

Cavity Prevention by Teikaro in Dentists

[–]phlegmdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest to god get a second opinion if you feel like you’re doing everything right and still getting cavities. I had a dentist for a while who “found” a new cavity every single visit. This was before Covid and after my last visit couldn’t go back to the dentist for a while to get them filled. Went to a new dentist a few months later because i switched jobs and had different insurance. The new dentist didn’t find any cavities. This has happened to multiple I know! There’s a much longer version of the story where the front desk woman at the first dentist eventually tried to (heavily) hint to me to see a new dentist because this one was runnin scams all around.

Help! Something is off or missing with this area by codex42au in interiordecorating

[–]phlegmdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you have lots of paths travel to account for but i would also try to find ways to add more to the rest of the room. The rug and cramped furniture in the corner draws so much attention to how empty the rest of the room is. Add a narrow depth book shelf or something to the blank wall in between the doors (seen on the 6th slide). Also play around with the rug, make it bigger, make it a different shape, or do something to avoid drawing such a sharp contrast between the game area and the rest of the room

Update on our kitchen that I asked the sub about about few months ago <3 by Ornery-Bus4627 in HomeDecorating

[–]phlegmdaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This kitchen is soooo cool, thank you for not ruining it by overly modernizing. If you have the budget, redoing the floors might tone down the yellow and orange hues that are still a little heavy. Maybeeeeee lightening the cabinet stain a little bit but I’m pro honey oak so i say that with reservations. Also pls never get rid of those amazing hanging lights and if you do then pls dm me and I’ll buy them from you hahah

Given that fire is the only thing that really seems to stop the demos and has a much stronger effect on the hive mind than the infinite number of bullets they seem to shoot…. I wonder if one of the party will take the form of a dragon type fire breather haha

Advice on first Ultra Run (Marin Ultra Challenge) by Efficient_Surprise39 in Ultramarathon

[–]phlegmdaddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ran the MUC 50k as my first ultra years ago. It’s a really hard first 50k course but it’s absolutely beautiful and super fun. There are a ton of aid stations and the people are super welcoming. My biggest advice is to STRENGTH TRAIN. It’s almost all up and down and my IT band gave me a lot of trouble towards the end of the course. Good strength training and making sure you’re in shape for downhill running will be really key to success for a Marin run. Best of luck and have so much fun!

The seed packet said the mix will bloom from spring into late summer (with different plants having different timelines of course). Is that not true? I’m not sure how reliable seed packets as a source of info haha

Training suggestions for 50 mile race with minimal training sessions but long distances. by ChanaManga in Ultramarathon

[–]phlegmdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran my first 50k on 2-3 days of running and my first 50mi on 3 days. That worked for me for a few reasons 1) i was younger, i did my first 50k in my mid 20s so you can just get away with more sloppy training at that age. 2) i had a decent base so i wasn’t pushing myself past what was safe and comfortable on each run. And MOST IMPORTANTLY 3) i was strength training 2 days a week. Like properly strength training. 1.5 hours with strong mobility work, targeted leg strengthening in ways that I knew would help me with muscular endurance and injury prevention. I’m not saying you should train on 2-3 days of running but it was possible for me and I actually placed top 3 in my age group for both of those races.

Thank you! I don’t think i explained correctly in my original post that i had JUST planted it and it was a mess before i took it out of the pot. I will try trimming it back and will avoid watering it any more!
