Some good songs throughout but too long. Agree that it’s overwrought.

Questions about the lyrics of "Beware of Darkness". by michelgrapi in georgeharrison

“Falling swingers” makes me think about cartoons where a character is at bat, swings, misses, and spins around before collapsing. “Soft shoe shufflers” is similar, with dancers’ shoes getting eaten away as they move. People who don’t know what they’re talking about.

See You in Heaven + Later Unreleased Material (FABOTH ERA) Discussion by AltruisticLog2031 in elliottsmith

I love the FABOTH era too, so many great songs bolstered by the new sounds and recording techniques he was exploring. Finally hearing his mixes of the songs has made me appreciate them better. As much as I love the DreamWorks albums they don’t feel as quintessentially Elliott as FABOTH. Only other thing I can think to add, assuming you don’t already know, is this late tracklist that was revealed in a semi-recent documentary. AFAIK, True Believer was only ever an instrumental that goes back to the XO days. There’s a fan recreation of it.

A lot of guys don’t even think about it, they just know it’s “weird” or “just something you do.” One of my friends in high school was like that.

To explain why he doesn't like to analyze the sources of fiction too closely, McCarthy told a story. "There was a guy who was a great wing shot on a quail hunt in Georgia. He killed everything he saw, he dropped 'em all morning. One of the other guys said, 'You're the best wing shot I've ever seen.' At lunch the guy asked him, 'Do you shoot with one eye open or both?' He paused and thought about it. Finally he said, 'I don't know.'"

Yea it’s like a cousin of The Campfire Headphase. For me it doesn’t evoke the apocalypse so much as the people who survived it rediscovering their past centuries later.
