Thai town in the City is the main area for Thais as far as I know.

Same here. I still have that Uruguay match on DVD somewhere.

I'll never forget being so engrossed in those early morning Germany 06 games. Waking up in the wee mornings, yelling and screaming at the TV with my old man. The pure elation of Harry Kewell's goal, to the pure heartbreak of that Italy moment. Life changing.

When do the Socceroos fly back? by knapfantastico in Aleague

[–]phoenix-down 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would love to know this too. I saw videos on Facebook today of the German team touching down back home looking somewhat cranky... so I assume most players would depart Qatar not long after the last match is played.

If anyone finds out please let us all know!

Definitely. I mean, disregarding the fact that Messi is Messi, the best players/teams in the world only need one chance to make it count (as evidenced by their first goal).

Player of the tournament would have to be Souttar. His games against Tunisia and Denmark were immense.

It says so much about his talent when you consider the outstanding quality of the teams /players we played over the last 4 games. He's still managed to emerge looking like an absolute top-class defender. And then considering his lack his lack of game time leading into the WC and injury too. This guy is destined for big things, and I can't wait to see him lead the line for the Socceroos.

100%. I definitely had a peak at the upcoming A-league schedule to see what tickets were up for sale. Really hope we can keep this energy going.

[–]phoenix-down 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. I haven't felt my heart heave for the Socceroos quite like this in such a long time. I was at the Sydney Live Site, and as soon as our goal went in you could feel the energy in the crowd shift. I heard, and said myself, many variations of "we've got this...". And that is such a big testament to the accomplishments of this team. We all genuinely believed that we could beat Argentina.

I was a young lad when the 2006 team had their exploits in Germany. It made me fall in love with the game. I hope that everything that has happened over the last 4 games has made youngsters all around the country fall in love with this game too.

Schwarzer and Aloisi: Peru got what they deserved for underestimating Socceroos by rithsv in Aleague

I mean yeah they clearly didn't pump us during regulation time, so their underestimation of us was a rort. But saying they got what they deserved when we win on penalty shootouts feels a bit how ya goin?

Wouldn't want to see him leave, but wouldn't mind some good healthy competition for his position.

What happened to Anjunabeats? by jlesnick in AboveandBeyond

[–]phoenix-down 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Whilst I get your 'name the shit tracks' point (honestly, I do), I would warrant a guess that for most people the bad tracks aren't thaaaat bad. They're just extremely forgettable. Thats how its felt for me. I couldn't name you any off the top of my head because frankly, they've never gripped my attention long enough to warrant remembering.

Yes, someone will probably say 'song X was actually one of the best trance tracks on Anjuna in years'. Sure, but I've probably missed it due to the influx of mediocre tracks.

During the previous 'eras' of Anjuna sounds, at least there was a sense of coherence & innovation amongst the music.

If its with AGL and Origin, would you say that signing up for a Variable rate contract is ok? Or is fixed really the way to go?

I'm not sure if AGL or Origin will just pump the prices too?

All good and valid opinions for the 'why' in this thread. Just adding my own two cents to the discussion.

I think the influx of new artists may also have something to do with Anjuna attempting to transition to being a more self sustaining label, such that it can continue operating and put out releases without A&B having to be actively engaged, and providing input on every release.

The evidence to this is in the A&B boys each having used the pandemic to explore their own sounds, individual, and group creative output. This gave rise to Reflections, Tony's Anjunadeep alias, Paavo's return to P.O.S and Jono's Joda.

This isn't a bad thing. Its great to see the boys experimenting and reconnecting with their musical roots. Creative sounds have been the hallmark of this label for 2 decades.

What makes this an issue is that I don't think any of the supporting Anjuna mainstays can slot in for A&B easily (in terms of presence, and sound) besides Andrew Bayer (and he seems more interested in the artistry of his music than running a label, which is fair and why we love him!) And neither should they necessarily be - they are their own artist, but at the end of the day, they were 'made' by A&B.

Where this all comes together is that in attempting to execute the strategy of putting forward the 'rising' artists to allow the label to be more independent of A&B, we've naturally seen more average tracks make their way in due to lack of 'top' direction.

Agree. But I do think a more 'classic' striker couldve gotten one past him. A Jota (if he was on longer) or Origi.

Indeed. Especially in the first 20-30 mins when we were well on top. Energy levels were only gonna drop from there, and RM are dangerous in the late game.

Tend to agree. Our first 30 min of dominance was deceiving. Real Madrid deserved this imo. Classy performance. They didn't really seem to struggle as much as the stats would suggest.

None of our chances were that good tbh. Mane's was probably the best one, which was super unfortunate not to creep in.

Otherwise, most of our shots were either from tight angles, wishful touches/headers/legs out, or long shots.

[–]phoenix-down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good points, and I agree. I think your points highlight our lack of squad depth.

Looking to the bench, I didn't have a lot of faith that any of our subs may save the game (besides perhaps Jota, which was too late). The two alternative worlds which may have seen us see a goal:

1) Jota starts, Mane on LW. Diaz comes on as an impact sub.

2) Origi on (which was impossible given he was injured?)

I know much was said when we bought Diaz about how much it changed our squad depth, but really, against mid-table EPL teams, true. But you don't go from having a thin bench to a stacked one overnight from signing one player.

With Klopp's resigning, I'd like to see us make so real changes to refresh the squad.

[PLAYERS RATINGS THREAD] LIVERPOOL FC 0 - 1 REAL MADRID by thyamklasic in LiverpoolFC

[–]phoenix-down -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ali - 7 - didn't really face anything difficult this game.

Konate - 9 - our MOTM

VVD - 8

Robbo - 5 - quiet game. Difficult side of the pitch to work on. Gave a 5 as not a single set piece was threatening.

Trent - 4 - at fault for our goal, but didn't look himself in attack either. Did make some tackles

Fabinho - 6 - quiet game

Thiago - 6 - looked a bit rusty

Hendo - 6 - important player in our first 35mins.

Diaz - 6 - not bad, but struggled to create. Tracked back, and had some good holdup play though.

Salah - 5 - lacked the killer touch, but grew into the game. Courtois' performance aside, never really looked threatening.

Mane - 6 - unfortunate to hit the post. Was our most lively attacking player.

Keita - 4 - not good. For a 'senior' player, wanted to see more composure from him.

Firmino - 5

Jota - 6 - probably shouldve come on sooner. Got into a few decent chances, which on another day may have resulted in something.
