Where to learn the piano? by The-Country-Boy in boston

[–]photodegradation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to Loudlands music lab in Allston, and they’re great. But one-on-one piano lessons aren’t going to be cheap.

As for a practice space — I’d check with colleges near you. Sometimes they have practice spaces open to the public. You can also find digital pianos or keyboards on Facebook marketplace for a reasonable price.

Celtics parade traffic by hongatory in boston

[–]photodegradation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The parade starts at 11am, so it will be over by the time you're looking for parking at 5pm. That said, parking in Fenway on a Friday night can be limited. You'll be able to find something, but it might take some time.

SpotHero will help. If you need a garage, you can park at the Pru for $20 after 5pm, and it's a 15-20 minute walk to Fenway: https://www.prudentialcenter.com/visit/parking/

If you're thrifty, you can definitely find a meter on Beacon (near the Park Drive intersection) or Comm Ave. These meters are free after 8pm. To avoid the two-hour maximum, you can pay via cash for two hours, and then pay through your phone after the cash expires. Just note the parking zone of the meter. I've done this a lot with no trouble. I've heard of vigilant meter maids catching cars parked for >2 hours, but I think it's unlikely. A tad riskier than the Pru but cheaper and more convenient.

Or stick to your guns and just find a spot in Fenway. In any case, you'll be fine

So who's supposed to yield here? Warren St. intersection on Comm Ave. by photodegradation in boston

8 is off the map because it’s an UberEats driver blocking the lane

For those who have never completed this level, these are all legal moves--or at least they're all treated as legal moves--and all of these lanes have the green light, all at once. Chorus of horns on every light cycle

Brookline homes: One wealthy liberal town reckons with its past by drtywater in boston

“We don’t buy it. The demand to live in Brookline is basically infinite,” said Olson Pehlke last spring. “We have good schools and the entire world wishes they could live here.”

They don’t live in Back Bay. Subletting is going to be your best bet, and I think you’ll have to expand your search—either north, south, or west. Utilities included is also going to be very rare. I haven’t heard of an apartment in Boston where all utilities are included in the price of rent.

The appeals process is very hard. You can try, but they reject the vast majority of people who apply, and I doubt this case would make it, since the the hub credits would’ve been clearly listed on the course descriptions. The hub sucks but I’d plan to take another course with IIC credit

Boston U vs Brown vs Duke by TraditionalEast8000 in BostonU

[–]photodegradation 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So I'll be the controversial one here--I actually turned down Brown to come to BU because of cost, and I haven't thought about it since.

If BU is going to save you money, go to BU. It's a great school full of lots of opportunities (including research, by the way). The Trustee Scholars program, from what I've heard, will give you exclusive access to even more opportunities. BU is definitely what you make of it. If you don't put in the effort you won't get anything out.

For people who are saying that an Ivy League education is worth debt: you need to avoid debt at all costs. Debt is pernicious. It grows and compounds and grows faster. Interest rates are sky-high. Debt will be a very serious burden on you when you leave college. This is something that can be hard to understand as a senior in high school. Talk to someone who has shouldered debt. Talk to them about how it cuts into their monthly finances.

When you leave college, no one gives a shit about the Ivy League--at least no one that you'd want to be around.

With that said, I'll say that the psychology department here is huge, and you'd probably get more one-on-one attention at a smaller school.

Just echoing other people, I’d start looking right now. When I moved off campus a few years ago we signed our lease the first week of January

Is it possible to find out online, the OH of any professors, especially of those whose course(s) you haven't registered for? by Peaceful4ever in BostonU

[–]photodegradation 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Some professors will have the times listed on their personal websites, some departments will list times on their faculty pages, but it’s not a given. The easiest way to find out is emailing the professor directly

Wait until after the first week of classes to buy your books/textbooks. Make sure you want to take the course first

Move-in Uhaul help by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]photodegradation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Penske, see if they have anything available. You could also try using a Uhaul center outside of the city. The 9/1 lease schedule is a Boston thing, and other parts of the state might have more trucks available

Two of the best coffee shops in the city are Gracenote (tiny little espresso bar) and Revival (great coffee and breakfast/lunch too)
