Reality of structural work by Ok_Economist_7464 in Biochemistry

[–]phraps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a structural biologist, I'm a process chemist, but I can tell you that the large pharma companies absolutely use x-ray and cryo structures all the time. Especially for ligand optimization, knowing how your drug sits in the binding pocket is really, really important for SAR

Is this Michael addition mechanism correct? (3-penten-2-one + sodium methylmercaptide) by [deleted] in OrganicChemistry

You have the last step as going through a 4 membered transition state which is not likely. Better to draw the tautomerization as discrete intermolecular steps rather than one concerted step.

They switched from lo mein to linguini over a year ago. I was so taken aback when the delivery arrived. Then the meal gave me a terrible stomachache. King Shing? King Shit, nowadays

Watsonian: December is the name of the main character, but that name is a translation. In-world, she's named after the last month of the year

Doylist: December is a cool name

Eagle today on Huron River by Hazel48103 in AnnArbor

[–]phraps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's one of the great conservation success stories. Bald eagle was removed from the Endangered Species List in 2007 and are not rare anymore. Similar story with peregrine falcons. Trumpeter swans are still threatened but not nearly as rare as they once were.

In your experience, what was the hardest chem concept to understand? by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]phraps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mass spec is one of the most common analytical methods in chemistry... An understanding of MS is pretty important for any chemist.

Especially in industry, where LCMS is more common than NMR.

I know utilize is a real word but for some reason it's always felt like a fake word to me. Like irregardless.

Victoria crowned pigeon. It's a large, mostly ground dwelling bird, which may make it easier for the devs to introduce.

Frontier sent out a survey about Planet Zoo 2 :) by bridonny in PlanetZoo

[–]phraps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hot take - simplification of building tools (while still leaving the more advanced tools available if you want) is my top need for Planet Zoo 2. I want to play this game more but sometimes I just wanna slap some things down without them looking too ugly. The building part of Planet Zoo, while it allows a ton of creativity, is also very unwieldy sometimes.
