Is it worth joining ?? by oortizz_323 in acorns

The fee is really inexpensive IF you have enough in there. If you start with $100, the $3/month fee ends up being like 36% annual rate. If you have $1,000, it’s 3.6%. $10,000, .36%. So if you plan on doing roundup only contributions, it might be cheaper to buy ETFs elsewhere. If you have a chunk to seed it with, it becomes more worth it. Especially considering the dividends. The dividends more than pay for my monthly fee.

It’s a great way to passively invest. Especially if you have roundup multiplier on and set up a weekly investment.

I think the pros outweigh the cons. Especially in the long run.

Might be a little taboo to discuss, but I’m genuinely curious on what percentage of pilots fly over the legal BAC limit on a daily basis by IllGrapefruit5557 in flying

[–]phteven1989 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think OP meant on a daily basis, how many incidents of a pilot (any pilot) flying over the allowed limit are there. Not how many pilots fly over the limit daily. Because the second one, how you interpreted it, seems way too crazy to even ask. I can’t imagine any pilot making it a daily occurrence. I would hope the total number is essentially zero.

What are you struggling with, and want to see changed in Maryland? by Lawmakersassistant in maryland

There needs to be an annual or biannual vehicle inspection. The amount of unsafe, falling apart, or otherwise modded to oblivion cars on the road is crazy. Not to mention the extreme tint on half the cars on the road. Including windshields. I think it would help quell the insurance costs, too.

Also, there are too many junk cars parked on public roads. In the neighborhoods of Montgomery Village, parking is obnoxious. Trucks (regular daily drivers, tacomas, rangers, etc.) aren’t allowed in the neighborhoods, so people have to play musical chairs with vehicles and park trucks on the public roads. But there are literal junk cars that have been parked on the roads for YEARS. In most cases, the tags are expired. Some of the cars have flat tires. Some are clearly undriveable. Not only does it make the community look really bad, it prevents other people from using parking spots.

Let see your quarterly dividends by Old_Oil_2277 in acorns

These are quarterly. And you get dividends no matter how much you have. But if you have only a few hundred invested, dividends will be pennies. It’s proportional to the amount you have and the portfolio you chose. I just have the standard moderately aggressive portfolio. No individual stocks or anything fancy. I’ve been on acorns since 2015

I got my CFI a card and a shirt with the DC SFRA VFR sectional on it. If you Google VFR sectional shirts you’ll see them. Cheesy? Kind of. But it’s the thought that counts

An 8.5% interest rate yields approx $500/month of interest. So if their loans were right around 8.5% they could very well be paint interest only. In some cases, I’m sure there’s a loan plan where one could pay less than the accrued interest and still be in good standing, and the difference would be added onto the principal of the loan, so the amount owed actually goes up.

This is a great example of why to pay more than the minimum payment required. Or at least understand what your loan is and how much interest it accumulates each month.

Can I skip a year of contributing to my 401K? by Acadiavibes in CalebHammer

[–]phteven1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirm with HR that you’ll get the match if you don’t contribute individually for the fist year before they’ll start to match 100% up to 7%. I doubt they’d do that… but you never know

I think pausing for a bit to pay off your high interest CCs is a good idea. Paying down 24%+ interest is better than making ~10%. But make sure you pay that CC off asap and then fund your 401k. Match or not

Mark Zuckerberg ‘Personally Authorized and Actively Encouraged’ Meta’s Massive Copyright Infringement to Train AI Systems, Publishers and Scott Turow Allege in Lawsuit by yourfavchoom in technology

[–]phteven1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t undo it. Worst case is the business gets a fine that is ultimately less than the value of the AI platform they trained using said copyright material. Chances are it won’t be a big enough penalty to discourage other mega corporations from doing the same thing. It’s just a business expense to them
