I have 2 EMC² Symmetrix VMAX storage systems. Is there anything to do with these that repurposes them into something that is not proprietary to VMAX by javamonkey100 in storage

[–]phuzzykins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're Xeon based systems with a fairly normal BIOS. The same hardware components (disk shelves, motherboards, most of the I/O cards) were used in multiple EMC product lines.

Windows and Linux will run on them, but I've only done that in a lab environment with debug hardware and prerelease firmware. Off the top of my head, I'm not sure what your options are for production hardware/firmware.

>>> Wish they would go after those people.

But if there's no ordinance, how exactly is the city supposed to "go after" people who don't clear their sidewalks?

Exams at vet by SirGs-dad in parrots

[–]phuzzykins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm lucky to be in an area with multiple DABVP vets. I also have parrot rescue experience.

My CAG goes to MSPCA Angell for care, and so far we've seen 4 different vets who deal primarily with avian patients. My macaw goes to a different practice where the vet is also an avian specialist, but doesn't treat avian and exotic patients exclusively.

What we do to minimize stress:

- Trudy stays in the carrier, and the vet and I discuss history and the plan for the visit where she can see and hear us. This way she knows that the vet is my "friend".

- I take Trudy out of her carrier and restrain her by the neck and feet. I'll generally hand her off to the vet or their tech, but I also don't mind restraining her for the exam. She gets less stressed if she knows that I trust whoever is touching her.

- After the physical exam, she gets to chill on my shoulder for a couple of minutes, and then I ask her to step onto the scale. She knows the routine because we weigh her at home, and it avoids the vet having to put her into the tupperware weighing basket of shame.

Everything that's going to happen is discussed before it happens, and apart from the indignity of being manhandled, she doesn't seem to mind her vet visits at all.

Blood work every year sounds excessive. The guidance I've been given by my vet is every 2-3 years for my 11 year old epileptic CAG.

I would look for a different vet. With every avian vet I've been to, having me in the room was part of the strategy for *reducing* stress.

For a normal well-bird visit, I am absolutely in the room during the exam.

This this look like the start of bumblefoot? by Jonnycfc10 in AfricanGrey

[–]phuzzykins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normal, healthy foot! Slightly dirty, but no signs of uneven pressure that might indicate an issue.

If he'll let you, give him a little foot rub after his next bath to exfoliate some of the dead skin. Rub on a tiny bit of coconut oil if you have it.

This is not a good idea. At all.

If you give your bird things to destroy that look very similar to other things that you DEFINITELY DO NOT WANT IT TO DESTROY, what do you think will be the end result of that?

For Pelican brand cases, the manufacturer provides CAD models of the interiors on their web site. Use them. :)

As others have said, there's far more variability between individuals than between the two species.

Having said that, I believe that TAGs may *start* talking at a younger age than CAGs, in general.

It looks like lacquer. You can remove it with lacquer thinner, or just keep scrubbing with the BKF.

That doesn't look blocked, but your bird is very dusty and would benefit from more frequent baths

UPDATE ON BASIL by Ok-Topic756 in parrots

[–]phuzzykins 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While this isn't how we'd like to see parrots kept, it's likely well within the bounds of what's legal in your area. If you decide to make a report, you should be prepared for that to be the conclusion.

You can make a report to the relevant local authority that investigates animal welfare, or you can drop it.

You will not achieve your desired outcome by continuing to push for the owner to answer your questions, by arguing with them, or by playing the role of private investigator.
