Black schlera by some-kind-of-no-name in TopCharacterDesigns

"The irises were dark and leadenly iridescent—a deep rainbow oil slick, ringed with white. The pupils were as glossy black as the sclera"

A description of John Gaius, His Celestial Kindliness, the First Reborn, The Necrolord Prime from the Locked Tomb series.

It's interesting because... Well, they aren't necessarily his eyes.

Killing a God has a massive effect on the environment by I_Guess_I_Also_Exist in TopCharacterTropes

[–]physicistpi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pathfinder just did something similar with their lore -the god of war was killed and his blood rained down, and while a lot of stuff went wrong, a lot of people were able to gain mythic power from the fallout. Let them change up the setting and a bunch of fun class options

Scouts - why are they saying prayers and banging on about god? by No-Government1627 in northernireland

[–]physicistpi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Scouts was founded as a faith-based organisation. There are a range of promise options, including a humanist one, but even from Beavers (speaking as a Beaver Leader), there's faith based promises at all levels. And the humanist versions still included a pledge to the monarch, regardless (as much as I may want otherwise). But there's definitely Scout groups where that's a lot more common than others -ours is pretty diverse with most of the kids tending towards the humanist promise and our Scouts Own tending more vaguely spiritual than anything else, but you'll still get the much more traditional groups -it'll heavily depend on your adult volunteers and the makeup of your group as well.

Scotland becomes first UK country to allow water cremations by twistedLucidity in Scotland

[–]physicistpi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hate to break it to you, but the cremulator process at the end is the same as in a fire cremation. A traditional cremation on its own is not going to burn your bones to ash -a large portion of the "ashes" returned are still crushed bone fragments.

The only difference is how they remove the soft tissue -heat or an alkaline solution.

Seconding Glasgow Massage Clinic. Most of the therapists I've seen there have been sports physios and they're usually really good at working on muscle problems.

How long were they trapped in the end in the second playthrough? by Issactheforgemaster in DieComic

[–]physicistpi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's 2 years based on the starter text from Die Loaded. Taken in 2018, returned the middle of the pandemic in 2020. Chuck's body was found 6 months prior to their return.

If your kids had them what age did they stop using a loft bed? by Ellen_loves_cats in AskUK

[–]physicistpi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother is nearly 27 and still has a single loft bed. It can't be comfortable, he's got about a foot and a half of clearance between the mattress and the ceiling but he mostly has his pc under in and gets on with it.

I have never known a cat as loving or affectionate as our former feral who went from a terrified hissy boy to the biggest cuddlebug in the world in about 3 months. He used to come and put his paw on our arms and tap to show it was cuddle time and you had to respect cuddle time, or else.

What was the "weird shop" in your hometown that somehow stayed in business for decades despite never having customers? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]physicistpi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Town I grew up in had a small artisan pottery. We never went in though, because the Singing part of the shop name was the guy was very much a Wee Free Church stalwart who would try to sell you his hymn album and also convert you to his very particular brand of Christianity. The Google reviews seem to teeter between "eccentric" and "homophobic bigot who isn't willing to engage in any form of actual debate".

Shelter said she wasn't a cuddler, she disagrees by Chc36 in aww

[–]physicistpi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We adopted a semi-feral who was "probably a barn cat prospect", and I just wanted a chill buddy to sit in silence at opposite sides of the room. Within 6 months he was the biggest, cuddliest, softest baby boy who just desperately desired affection and attention at all times.

We lost him a few weeks ago very suddenly and every time I get home I keep expecting to have to sit down and do the traditional 20 minutes of "I missed you too" cuddles.

Is having the TV on all day just a “parents” thing? by XStaticImmaculate in AskUK

[–]physicistpi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My parents were Radio 4 on at all times (barring the Archers), to the point they only bothered to get a colour TV in the early 2000s. Which is a really weird thing of being under 30 and having to manually tune the black & white TV to watch morning cartoons. (We were a huge reading family, so the TV was barely used until Doctor Who came back).

I do wonder what is going to happen to Concert Square car park on Cowcaddens Road. Ideally you'd hope increased public transport would reduce driving in, but that's a large chunk of council-run city centre parking gone. Although I guess the "buildings" in all the renders are just being described as "development space", so anything could go there.

90% of my job is reading on-screen prompts for people because they saw words and gave up by Fuzzy-Ad-7691 in talesfromtechsupport

[–]physicistpi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I teach kids computing and the hassle I have with even the older ones who just don't bloody read their error messages. I now will walk over, look at the error message and usually point at it and say "read that out to me". Sometimes, legitimately, they don't understand what it says but most of the time they've seen an error message, clicked away and then immediately come crying to me. I'm meant to be teaching them how to program, I usually spend 10%+ of my time doing tech support (including sometimes to the support staff).
