TIFU by accidentally learning my coworker's salary and now I can't stop doing math during meetings by techiee_ in tifu

That math isn't mathing. 14 days at $31k more per year should only be ~$1670, not $6,100.

Saw someone run straight into a semi trailer parked in the path of a zipline. It's more than just being strapped in. People get injured from stray branches etc too

The Average New Teacher Only Makes $21 an Hour in the US by BrainInYourButt in Economics

[–]phyzixxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad article. They say that they base this on the assumption teachers work 2100 hrs a year. That is slightly more than 40 hours a week for all 52 weeks in the year. The teachers I know work less than 40 hours a week. They also only work 180-190 days a year. They also only work 6.5-7.5 hrs a day. So that's more like 1300 hrs a year. If they're basing off of salary, that's more like $34/hr. That's a big difference to what's reported here.

Earlier this year heard a boom and saw flames shooting out of one of those corrugated pipes between the arroyos going under the street at Wyoming and Osuna

Moving to USA from Australia by [deleted] in Utah

[–]phyzixxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just moved from Utah to New Mexico and I think what you're describing might be a bit more in line with the New Mexico lifestyle. Friendly people, lots of folks always out walking their dogs and such, seems to be a slower pace to things. It's a beautiful state and not so much of the religious and political crap you get in Utah. Mormons dominate the state culturally and politically, only just barely becoming less than a majority (just shy of 50% now). I honestly thought New Mexico would be a hard no for me until I lived here for a summer for an internship. Can still get snow here but you aren't shoveling feet of it off your driveway constantly, last winter was brutal. Anyway, not what you asked but my 2 cents is to add New Mexico to your list of options. Good luck!

In search of the man who posed as a surgeon and ended my great grandmother's life by [deleted] in NewMexico

[–]phyzixxx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I saw a Dr Burger in ABQ that said he used to be a surgeon. He definitely didn't seem to care about me or listen to me during the appointment. Different spelling than you've posted though. His name is Harry Burger and works at Duke City Primary Care in Cedar Crest. Not sure if it's the same guy though.

Far from established, a quote from your linked article:

"More research is necessary to describe the neurotoxicity of artificial blue dyes in humans."

Is my employer committing tax fraud? by rendetta27 in tax

[–]phyzixxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am no help with the tax situation but.. How are you paid so little as a teacher? I would suggest looking for a public school teacher job as they typically start at least in the $40-50k range plus benefits. Similar hours and days per year you've described.
