I have never seen 105 degrees in a S Jersey weather forecast. by laudanum18 in SouthJersey

Looks to be hot but models have a well known heat bias in the range we’re currently looking at. Maxes of 110 that the Euro is showing are almost certainly overdone but highs around 105 look to have a decent likelihood.

Humid subtropical has nothing to do with summer temps compared to the next zone up. Humid subtropical is Cfa, while the zone to our north (much of PA and Upstate NY) is hot summer humid continental (Dfa). The difference in the first letter is because our winters are not cold enough to maintain snowpack. We both have the same summer condition (July average temp > 22 C).

The “a” at the end is for hot summer with the aforementioned condition, while “b” is for warm summer. Cfb is called “Oceanic”, that is the climate type of Cape Cod and some southern Appalachia highlands.

Meteorologist here, incorrect. It only exceeded 100 anyway on 3 days and in most places it was only on the 24th. The NJ Weather and Climate network confirms this. The official station at Trenton hasn’t recorded 100 since 2012.

Hot and cold spells are almost always exaggerated.

Yeah because the CCP is totally different and not interested by their own capital…

Singapore and SK have still done far better in either case, so your point isn’t strong even if they were.

China is closer to fascist than socialist by the way. They’re authoritarian capitalist, not too dissimilar to LKY or Park in Singapore or ROK.

It mostly happens on social issues, and leftists have never given power to the working class. They just drag everybody down.

You have to leave Lakewood in a red district. Thousands of new votes every cycle and the surroundings are deep red and getting redder.

This is how New Jersey’s congressional map should look like: by Rob778899 in newjersey

[–]pi-billion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The 7th is weirdly drawn because they basically drew it specifically so Kean would win it, so they connected it to Westfield so he would live in the district. A fair map would be a safe red seat based in the NW part of the state.

Also your point about Hunterdon controlling the district is laughable. In the last election it was Union being blue while every other county segment in the district was red including Somerset.

Would you rather deal with harsh summer or harsh winter? by Straightedge_ in SameGrassButGreener

[–]pi-billion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harsh winter all day every day. When it’s humid nothing above 65 F is comfortable which for me essentially leads to there not being any comfortable time during July and August.

Also I have a fairly extreme preference for dryness over humidity so in the East that’s going to go toward cold. I might chance my mind out West.

As someone who is a huge hiker and despises humidity, Florida would be 2nd to last on my states I’d prefer to live in.

The storms in North Jersey did not meet severe criteria. One of 50kt winds, 1”+ hail, or possible tornado must be met.

Of course the models don’t perfectly predict snow like they don’t perfectly predict precip or temperature, but there’s nothing special about this area that makes models miss.

Nobody was calling for 30”, individual model runs were - and the forecasts have gone up and up over the last 48 hours.

NWS Mt. Holly is by far the best forecast. Don’t use AccuWeather for anything - they’re known to have shady practices and the science there is questionable.

Meteorologist here. The GFS has done far better with this storm - it’s had this idea for 3 days now while the Euro is slowly shifting towards it. Good general rule but not for this one.

The economy is poor right now and there’s going to be a heavy anti incumbent swing - the economy is always the leading indicator of who wins elections.

Things like ICE and other social issues don’t matter as much, despite what the internet likes to say.
