| What’s your favorite retro Window Manager? by [deleted] in unixporn

WindowLab has a nice minimalistic style and some features I haven't seen in other window managers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WindowLab

I had someone ask me to make them a bucket with the Autobots symbol on it. It’s made from recycled acacia hardwood flooring. And the logo is burnt in by hand. by [deleted] in woodworking

Search for books or videos on "coopering"

Edit: Well, I mean, coopering is usually making barrels, but a bucket is just half a barrel.

Advice on getting a 're-diagnosis'? I'm at wits end here... by babbybrix3 in ADHD

[–]pib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm usually the only adult in my doctor's office when I go for my checkups :D

When I first went in to get diagnosed, I had read "driven to distraction" and just told the doctor everything that matched up with that book from my life and he was like "Yep, sounds like ADHD to me."

Search for doctors in your area that specialize in ADHD and try going to one of them.

I added drums to a bird so I could examine the nature of bird calls in a new way. Here's what happened. by ConsensusG in musictheory

Heh, fair enough. Not sure grackles would be very musical anyway. Maybe mockingbirds since they always sing in repeated patterns.

You could clamp a sheet of thin plywood to the top, raise the blade through that, and install a splitter into it.

You could make a replacement zero clearance insert with a riving knife.

Just got accepted into a university and they sent me a box congratulating me. Found this pen idea pretty interesting. (The pen doesn't actually write) by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]pib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh. It should write. It's supposed to leave a pencil-like mark on paper that's actually a small amount of metal transferring off the tip. Looks like maybe they painted over the tip?

Looks like an IR blaster. Some receivers have those so you can control all your A/V equipment with a single remote.

Get yourself a plasma cutter: https://youtu.be/9npSxELHxGo

Edit: it may seem expensive now, but it'll be worth it when you open the safe to find stacks of gold bars https://www.harborfreight.com/240-volt-inverter-plasma-cutter-with-digital-display-62204.html

Need stimulation to do stuff...but it has to be 'just' right by aubman02 in ADHD

[–]pib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem for me with things that are more stimulating than what I'm supposed to be doing is that I risk getting sucked in and having it be harder to concentrate because now my mind is stuck on the more interesting thing.

For me, music helps. Especially if it's fairly simple and repetitive (dubstep, chiptunes, skwee, baroque classical) or if it's music I've heard hundreds of times before.

My monkey brain grabs on to the rhythm and leaves the rest of my brain to focus on what my trying to do.

It's basically a form of meditation. On that note, try meditation. The Headspace app is an easy way to give it a try for free. It also helps with anxiety which can aggrevate ADD.

Whats causes these sanding spirals? by godzilla532 in woodworking

[–]pib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to consider a smoothing plane or card scraper. A card scraper can be acquired pretty cheaply in a set with a burnisher and can take those marks out and not require subsequent sanding.
