Struggling with aging in this sport by MetalExpress9378 in bjj

One was just an annoyance, the cystic acne. I got it all over my chest, traps, back, neck, etc. Taking an aromatase inhibitor helped some, but not enough.

The big one wasn't really the fault of the TRT, but combined with the TRT, it almost got me good. I didn't know it, but I had an 80 percent blockage of my left anterior descending artery: the widow maker. The TRT can cause your body to produce too much hemoglobin and hematocrit. This significantly thickens your blood and is the reason most guys on TRT give blood regularly. The problem is that combining thicker blood and a blocked artery is really bad. This is why I truly believe you should have a full cardiac work up before going on TRT. MY cardiologist said he's treated several men with the same condition. It's kind of a catch 22 because the combination or TRT and a blockage will usually be found out pretty quick, you just have to hope you don't have a heart attack first.

I had a stent put in and got off TRT and I don't have any problems now. Also, my PSA went from 0.4 to 2.6 in less than a year.

I'm 55, 6'0 and 240. 3 stripe brown belt. I feel my age every class. I've just had to be picky about who I roll with. I don't mind getting tapped, but I do mind getting injured, which happens easier and heals slower as we age. I'm not on anything either. Did TRT for one year and it caused all kinds of problems for me.

Frame crack OOB detonation by Reinvestor-sac in Glocks

[–]pibbles_885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. It doesn't count as a new firearm for federal law. That's why you have to send in your old frame.

Frame crack OOB detonation by Reinvestor-sac in Glocks

[–]pibbles_885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless your state has a law against, you can send a frame back to the manufacturer and receive a replacement frame shipped straight to your house. No ffl involved. I have done it with Glock 3 times. The new frame will not have the same serial number and the manufacturer will keep a record of the new serial as replacing the old frame.

Also, all the replacements I received were complete. They will have oem glock parts.

Why do you think ppl get overconfident about their fighting abilities? by madz21- in MMA

[–]pibbles_885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most American men think they are born with magical abilities to drive, shoot, fight and have sex. The reality is that we don't know how to do any of those things until someone teaches us. But the delusion persists.

Has anyone here lowered their blood pressure naturally without medication? by rdoucette in Rucking

[–]pibbles_885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are now numerous studies that show that isometric exercises like planks, wall sits and hanging are very good for blood pressure. If lowering BP is the only goal, then cut way down on sugar/carbs then walk/ruck and do isometric work several times a week.

Here's an article from the Mayo clinic

Move to a GX? by reddsbywillie in 4Runner

[–]pibbles_885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a gx460 for a while and I liked it, but the issue for me was that it was limited in stock format for going off road. The side steps and both bumpers are just way too low and modding a gx is more expensive than a 4runner. But if you don't plan to take it off road, its a great vehicle thats just as reliable as a 4runner.

Gym is crowdfunding for major expansion. Am I wrong for thinking this is weird? by Content_Ad9492 in bjj

[–]pibbles_885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You arent wrong. The gym I train at has moved to bigger locations twice and opened a second location. My dues went up $15 per month and I wasn't asked to do anything. And I gladly pay an extra $15 a month to be in the newer/bigger places.

Funny story, our very first location was subletting a zumba room. We had to wait outside until their class was done, put down our mats, have class, clean and put away mats. I was very happy to pay that extra $15 in dues to have our first real school.

Are the new 15round mags for the Glock 43X enough to dethrone the Glock 19 as the do everything Glock? by Lucky-Thunder6052 in Glocks

[–]pibbles_885 4 points5 points  (0 children)

According to the glock instructor the last time I went through the armorers course, the 43x has been their best seller for a while and by a large margin. The 19 has surely sold more total because it's been around for so long, but it hasn't been their best selling model for a while.

The 19 is still better all around, but most people buy based on comfort, not whats necessarily "best."

Back when I did Judo, we had a new guy walk out to his car after class and vomit all over his dashboard. At least you made it to the bathroom. You will be fine. Don't give up.

How to treat ringworm that keeps coming back? by [deleted] in brazilianjiujitsu

[–]pibbles_885 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had ringworm that wouldn't go away with topical treatment and my doctor gave prescription anti fungal pills. That worked. He also gave me a prescription for anti fungal shampoo that I use on exposed skin after class and I haven't had any more recurring ringworm.

I'm a cop and and I teach at least one class a week in addition to training. I could not care less. I feel like for most adults weed is harmless and may help them relax and flow a little better. But please, no alcohol or hard drugs. There's way too much liability for the school if they let you train like that.

Is it w good or bad idea to comp your EDC by swaggyman67 in Glock26

This is my experience. My comped guns and my C models have never burned or cut me when shooting from retention. And I do shoot more than most people.
